Great writer. When you watch his work, watch how fast-paced the dialogue is. Bang, bang, bang... it comes at you fast and almost non-stop. No one really talks like that in reality but on the screen it works. Watch any of his works and you will see what I mean.
Sorkin has created many of my all time favorite shows. One of the few that actually writes intelligent programming. West Wing, Sports Night, Stuido 60, etc. I watch these all the time. I'm even considering spending the money to get HBO just to see his new series.
I don't know if he related this thought during this particular interview, but I once heard him say, (and I'm paraphrasing) "a writer who hangs out the set of his own movie is like a whore who's been fucked, paid, and is waiting around for the john to buy her breakfast."
This guy is just such a treasure, don't know what I'd do without the "West Wing."
Amazing to think such a plain spoken, dry, unimpressive-sounding guy could pen some of the most eloquent and spine-tingling things ever committed to the screen. That's how a lot of geniuses are.
I always remember Stockard Channing's remarks when she rec'd her Emmy role for the West Wing. She grinned and said she thought Aaron Sorkin was the sexiest man in America.... I can see what she means. Not to mention I like the way his mind works. Wish I were 30 yrs younger.
The man is indeed a genius. After watching The West Wing over and over again, it feels like I know him like an old friend. He always did come across as slightly unimpressive in these kind of interviews though, but that's the case with many great writers; they're all clumsy and shy and awkward in person, but give them a typewriter and they become brilliant men of the world.
dumbed down? jesus what the hell do you watch? if you had actually watched any of sorkins work you would realized there is nothing dumbed down about it.
It's not that drugs make you a good playwright, it's that the intellect and emotional faculties that allow you to be a good playwright make you want to take drugs.
lol...wow...really...?? u actually inherently believe that don't you? i cant help but wonder how many smart people out there "wanted" drugs and are currently on the verge of reaching their own personal and permanent down syndrome soiree....actually, I met one the other day... a former nobel laureate now roaming haight ashbury still thinking it's 1976..you are sooo right! a mad genius!! puff away tolker! all the power to ya!
true true true, but the west wing, which i didn't start watching till sorkin was already gone , but i now have the entire season dvd set, is absolutely incredible, characters so complet andreal, i dont know how he does it
He writes his genius bullshit from a well-lit room because that's what the rich and happy do nowadays.

Ironically, Aaron Sorkin is a plagiarist. He has stolen many other screenwriters' work, including THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT and THE WEST WING.
See my channel for evidence.

I'm a big fan of The Social Network, I really am. I just love the witty dialogue. However I must say that he kinda looks like Jim Carrey.

@jflash214 ...........He smokes crack on occasions. But I don't care. He's still a great writer. I bet he writes while he's high.

A great playwright
I really enjoyed Malice
a brillant play on ethics, morality, sex, power, ego,
and a great worx of letters and arts
Malice was way underappreciated, much better than his future worx
