@7466309change And breeder, previous owners, access to breed shows, and any important genetic information.. For example, without papers, you won't know if a stock horse you're looking at has Impressive blood, and won't know whether or not you should worry about HYPP.
Conformation, pedigree, disposition and proven. Those are my personal criteria for breeding. Good disposition is self explanatory. Good conformation, suited to the discipline you are aiming for, is vital. Pedigrees should also be suited for the discipline. There are many instances of unregistered horses who are bred but those horses generally have my #4 criteria going for them: they are proven. Proven can mean proven in anything, not just showing. Endurance, ranch work, etc.
@Rydiakumori I disagree - especially when you are talking about horses you plan on breeding. Pedigrees should be part of the overall process when selecting and matching up potential breeding stock to give the foals the best chance possible - especially in this economy. Now as to personal riding horses that aren't going to be used for breeding, well then papers don't mean much unless you want to show in breed-specific shows.
@Rydiakumori Only idiots would say that. You dont breed crappy horses..enough horses go to slaughter each year. Its the horses who no one cares about and are worthless. They dont have good pedigrees if any. etc etc etc..
@Militarylove2012 Also, I believe that horses should be bred, determined by their performance in a show ring, (or in the work-place for horses who actually do a real job) I could care less who their great great great great (etc, etc etc...) grand sire/dam is. Not every horse you breed inherits what you are looking for anyway. So why breed based on pedigree alone? Its stupid.
@Rydiakumori Because your foal will inherit traits from is sire and dam and they will inherit their traits from their sire and dam..etc etc.. After the 3rd generation the blood gets to thin and no it doesnt matter. But it just helps
@Rydiakumori -- and only idiots believe only snobs care about pedigrees. Talk about reverse snobbery. Pedigrees are an indicator of a horse's potential, as well as a genetic record. Note the "genetic record" phrase because it's important when BREEDING. Doesn't mean a grade horse is worthless, but that most people BREEDING grade horses are clueless.
@Rydiakumori Only snobs might care about papers right now, but that's exactly why there's an over population of horses and why so many get sent to slaughter or are abandoned and/or neglected. People just breed anything to anything.
I can beat "lilac dun." Saw an ad for a "blue gray dapple" stud who threw "blue and gray babies." Apparently the owner bred a gray for color. Oh, and of course the horse was 15.5 hh.
Horses, dogs, cats...you name it. People will breed anything. You should see the weedy, bad Miniature Pinschers around here. The neighbor has a male Pomeranian that is obviously of bad quality and she's going to breed him because he has a "cute personality." So many animals unwanted and abused and these jokers breed more.
GBA there is a big difference between the idiot depicted in this vid and a reputable breeder. I have registered stock worth more than some grade roach backed "Lilac dun" But it takes a horseman with just a little bit of knowledge to understand the diffrence in the 2 It's to bad U can't see those differences. I think U look dumb enough now thank U and see U later loser LMFAO!

Let us hear how you feel about sending horses to their dooms if they wont "work" for you or are "pissy". Your words not mine. These horse people would love to hear what a backyard breeder like you does with his unwanted horses. Please enlighten us asshole!

@rancherjongus Aren't you the admitted horse breeder but you bitch that horses need slaughtered cause theres to many? Is that you or your sister playing the dumb ass backyard breeder part? Sure sounds like the garbage you've been trying to sell on you tube!
Hey, I think I got a couple of those rare lilac duns out in my barn. Course the registry snobs made me put bay on their papers cause they're racist against fancy colors....
Sadly that is how it is with some horse owners and dog owners, they think just because it's got it's male parts, it needs to be bred, that is why the shelters and horse auctions are so loaded with "grade" horses that no one wants...
aprocot dun is that like a aprocot poodle?
