All of us on this video live in KS. As leasing becomes more popular with land owners, it is harder and harder to find ground to hunt. It is really hard to get GOOD ground to bow hunt. Keep knocking on doors and it will happen for you.
We use bows for 40# to 55#. I use a Bear Kodiak Magnum recurve at 55#.
Gar have some pretty nasty teeth. I have been sliced open by thrashing fish a few times and it always takes a while for them to heal. Kill them then eat them...good eating!
I used to snag gar at either Rocky Ford NE of Manhattan or at the spillway at Tuttle Creek. If I snag one, I would either cut the line or knock them senseless against the wall. Those fish scare me big time.
Doug and Trish are shooting the Onieda Osprey. They have the let off set low so that they can shoot with good roll off of their fingers. I am shooting a 55# Bear Kodiak Magnum recurve. For me, the less bow weight the better. That way you can stand at the ready for hours w/o fatigue. This bowfishing day was 9 hours long.
ha awesome i have recently picked up bowfishing and am an avid bowhunter and im 16 going to be a senior and my first shot was a 28# carp and second shot was 2 gar in one shot may i ask what tips are u using
