Maslow's hierarchy is so simple, however very helpful. People who have obtained all their needs, but suddenly experience going through hard times, can often be helped by looking at Maslow's hierarchy. I personally tried to achieve happiness by looking at the top of the hierarchy, however it turned out I forgot about my basic needs.
Expanded Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, you kind of gave me the key to open a new door, that it had been locked through all my life. i am very happy to have found your channel, because, i'm learning a lot from you.
She seems like a really cool & intelligent girl..Thanks for the vid, I remember studying Maslow for a psych class like 15 yrs ago, but forgot all of it.lol..thanks for the reminder Corrina
This is very nice and interesting. It connects to what I have researched so far. =)
However, what if somebodies pyramid is "upside down"? What is "wrong" with them and how do they "fix" it? Or is having a different order possible and thus "normal"?
Motivation is a terrible word for this. I would say not having these needs met is a causal for different fallout manifested in a plethora of ways physical and emotional. Our psychology misfires if we have not gotten the right care from parents. It can cause physical problems as well. Look at number two, safety needs. How can someone look at war torn areas and tell me that the chaos does not produce horrible results, not necessarily "motivation", but a myriad of detriments result.
Thank you for this video and I wish you health and wellness, as well as you can get discounts for organic products International DXN number : 1420-31106 or join my group
Thank you for A wonderful lecture on Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. I hope you get to fulfill your needs of playing music! Love doubleoninja. I subscribed.
I like this video a lot. It helped me understand why people behave the way they sometimes do. This information is great for social workers or related fields.
if someone who has only fulfilled physiological needs can become spiritual by undertaking several meditation techniques and reach the final transcendtal state, where there is a similar feeling of "universal consciousness". Hence, Maslow may not always be right.
Great video! Even though I was already familiar with it, your video really gave me a great insight into my life. :) I can understand my goals and my life much better now
I cannot understand that- The safety need is lower to esteem need, right? then why motorcycle stent performers risk their life and injury to practice and perform. The order of needs has some flaw. How will you explain? A junior high school teacher said that they have bought insurances and wear protective gears so the safety is pretty good.
@MrWilliamcheng Most of those individuals are placing their lives in the hands of others who have the ability to provide them or their families with protection and life essentials. Their need and motivation may be because they believe they are doing a great thing for their people or their families.
@MrWilliamcheng I'm sure a lot of people were thinking about this.
Safety (Read on)
Like everyone else on Earth, they grew up with a cultural cage. And like everyone else, they believe it and bend to it. Terrorists, for example, do it because they feel they are doing the right thing (security of morality) and they think they will go to heaven with 72 other pure souls (not virgins, as America thinks, but that's beside the point.) if they do it. That's security of self, believe it or not.
Why wouldn't people generally be well-meaning? Criminals are far less than people. It's a belief system to assume people are generally bad overall. And good overall. To draw notice to Maslow's position is likewise to favour a contemporary view on people, saturated into the psyche by media. It's a shame.
This is cute but a somewhat silly attempt to divide the fundamentally unified drive for GROWTH.....in any and all ways possible. Everything comes from this and returns to this. All these silly little diagrams and pyramids/hierarchies are for weaklings and cowards.
Something that remains unclear to me: does one level of this hierarchy has to be fulfilled first in order to really fulfill the next upper one? Or are these totally independent from each other? There's definitely a link between the "coping" and "happiness" groups anyway.
btw I'll mention Maslow to my psychiatrist next time and see what she thinks of this. Thanks (from europe)
@bluesgurugod Yes they are in the giant scheme of things. for anyone who thinks they are. Think about this. If you had the choice of total bliss for one minute in your life and then your life was over or living a hundred years of total misery without a second of happiness, what would you choose? I think we are confusing function with purpose and meaning. Basic human needs are only a means to an end but are not as essential as the things on the top of the pyramid.
@bluesgurugod survival is just a means maybe im not making it clear but I believe your still confused about my point. BTW why not answer the question? If a sole's purpose is strictly survival then congratulations you've arrived at life's pinnacle of success but if it isnt then you must look further and that is truly the more important. Please dont be a troll, it's unbecoming of a true human being.
"People who don't matter judge & People who judge don't matter" I'll keep that adage in my mental arsenal to block out all the negativity that often times gets directed at me- all though I still wonder if it is true in real life - like a 100 people who call me a loser many of those people seem successful & happy in ways that I am not- I try my best not to judge anyone - sometimes others suspect I judge them when I don't - but i do have certain values & practices that I will not compromise.
@catgumart yeah, I know what you mean. Some people think that non-judgementalness means that you don't judge people because you know or suspect that they would judge *you* negatively. And there might be some truth in that! It's all so confusing, innit. I need to start meditating and stop hiding from my soul. Then maybe some clarity would arise.
@catgumart "People who don't matter judge & People who judge don't matter" is itself a judgment. It is impossible to avoid making judgments. The best you can do is make informed and logical judgements and understand the criteria by which those judgments are made.
Very good! Most insightful and interesting. Justi In jest, this kind of reminds me of the movie "The Jerk" with Steve Martin, where his black mother tells him to go out into the world and find his "Special Purpose", and he finds it when he gets raped by that skanky chick he was working with at a Carnival. lol
You are doing good work~! As a fine woodworker, and a high-school musician, I can say that aesthetics has been an important building block to happiness. I've worked for so few successful people at the higher end of the social order who actually had a sense of appreciation for the aesthetics of my work. The elites (general term, I know, but used often) seem to lack in the higher order of Maslow's hierarchy. Just the observation from one who very much enjoys bringing aesthetics into lives.
Some people who meerly cope are so happy compared to those who live comfortably with stimulating jobs and beauty... I can say this from experience... Its the small things in life that make people happy... And ignorance really is bliss- obviously what the theory describes as happiness is very hard to obtain and attain as those aspects come with such stress.
Yes its highly satisfying to help other and understand and critically analyse- but satisfaction isnt happiness.
A very interesting theory. It does very well explain what is to be human. I am interested to see the psychetruth version of it. Because i didnt completely 100% agree with this oone.
you should explore Clare W. Graves work more throughly, he trumps Maslow in many ways.
