I read in an interview Joss Whedon Gave that had angel recieved a 6th season he intended for illyria and fred to share the "shell" . We did't get enough of Illyria, "I wish to do more violence"!!

@jpowell180 Oh man OF COURSE Fred is waaaaay better than Illyria, but Knox is the one we should totally hate on. I just mean I do like Illyria, but never as much as Fred. And if you read the Angel comics, well, it's not exactly your wish but sometimes it sort of can be....haha. But yeah I totally wish Fred could come back forever. I think they should make a Buffy/Angel movie starring everybody and my life will be complete xD

Joss was going to do something like that.

It had to do along the lines of Illyria not being able to control the emotions and memories, and when that happened, Fred 'came out' and took control. Pretty much like the line between them was fading, although it was always going to be either Illyria or Fred at one time, they could, in a way, switch places.

No, she was a sweet-scientist-girl named Fred for a long time. Illyria is ancient Goddess who killed her and took over her body and became, as you see, blue. If you want to know more about her character(s) story I recommend you to watch my video "Long Journey from Fred to Illyria" - it's chronology sequence of EVERY episode of Fred and then Illyria untill the final episode of "Angel".
