I got "saved" about 4 1/2 years ago. I suddenly became very passionate about telling others what Jesus Christ had done for me. My works were (and hopefully still are) motivated solely by my new faith. As the scriptures say, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also". (James 2:26, NKJV)
The book of James is talking about the right kind of faith that motivates people in doing what the Lord wants you to do. This right kind of faith is a saving faith. When we boast about our faith and do nothing to prove it then it is a dead faith, dead faith can't save us, a saving faith in Jesus saves us because we believe in His blood sacrifice and we tell others about His blood sacrifice. Even an atheist can boast about his/her works but when he/she has no saving faith their faith is dead.
