Anyone who thinks this ineffective has clearly never been hit round the head with a defender's lacrosse stick. the visual art is a method of demoralization and it will easily break things on impact. The movement covers any gaps defensively and the opponent does not know when or where the attack will come from. this is just demonstration, the real effectiveness in this weapon lies in its speed. it is silly to say its ineffective in combat, as it beats most other melee weapons in the right hands.
Krabi Krabong is a Thai martial art but "Pahuyuth Krabong" is not.
Sunthus created this new style in the 70's and claimed to be the oldest Thai martial art . There is no evidence to back his claim. His only defenses: he would be cured to reveal his masters all the evidences were lost in the cave under the water
@UrielSemptim And you bested this art when? Yeah ....not very effective at all, its only what the siamese used for hundreds of years keeping their country independant and destroying the Khmer empire.... Yep not worth a damn!
@Buxxby Yeah... but I'm pretty sure those guys never used this in combat. This is more gymnastic... not combat techniques. They are too difficult with pounce moves. Most (not every) eastern martial arts are like that... they look cool, but that's all.
@UrielSemptim I understand your point about "flowery" eastern arts- Wu Shu, many Kung fu forms and alot of korean stuff being heavy on showmanship light on actual combat effectiveness. Having said that I put Krabi Krabong and many Japanese forms outside of this as it is evident just by watching that these are designed for use in combat. Tony ja had to incorporate some Tai kwon do to make the techniquies look more "flowery". Muay Thai worked as the unarmed element of KK. It is effective.
I got the feeling this was slow motion action for purpose of training and allowing the more average among us who are not familiar what to be looking for. Personally, I'll stick with my .45 - less chance of splinters!:)
bomBerman180, I think that on reconsideration this is Not "fighting" at all. It is a demonstration. Its as if in slow motion so we viewers can see and more importantly follow what this more unusual martial art skill is about. If this was "fighting" I would have to agree, even I - a nerd of all nerds - could take these guys on - and win! Something tells me not to recklessly show up without a sidearm! :) Dr R. I agree, this looked like slow-on-purpose training drills to me. I've never done quarterstaff, but I've done foil fencing and this reminds me of the drills we do before free-fencing. If we free-fenced the way we drill, a baby with a rolled up newspaper could beat the crap out of us.

These people making the video do not know jack shit about muay thai

this really disgusted me
