No offense to her (I do sometimes like Metric and her voice suits her music), but that vocal affectation destroys the intimacy of the song. It sounds pretty, but it doesn't have the lovely melancholy that Elliott's voice and intention impart.

it is unbelievably rare that a cover stands up or stands above to the original. in my life, i think i've come across 2 covers that i feel truly do the original's justice, and that's Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's "hurt", and M Ward's cover of Daniel Johnston's "Story of an Artist". It doesn't mean that the cover can't be enjoyable.. this is certainly a good one. I think you'll find most cover artists are quite humble anyways. I doubt any of them are gonna say "my version is better than my idol's."

@rawbmanning As if what you said was even slightly accurate. I mean, I love elliott's music, I'm not a metric fan, but it's not a disgusting cover. She sang in tune to the key perfectly. You may not like her voice, but that's a different story. The guitarist did do a good job of preserving elliott's original guitar works. It's not really an easy song to play. The guy probably practiced it a lot. Elliott played in a very difficult way. It's funny you call the guitarist a jerkoff for his shirt

No offense to her (I do sometimes like Metric and her voice suits her music), but that vocal affectation destroys the intimacy of the song. It sounds pretty, but it doesn't have the lovely melancholy that Elliott's voice and intention impart.

And don't give me that bullshit thing "why are they even on this video if they don't like it," because one needs to hear something to have an opinion, and the only way to hear it is to watch the video.

it is unbelievably rare that a cover stands up or stands above to the original. in my life, i think i've come across 2 covers that i feel truly do the original's justice, and that's Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's "hurt", and M Ward's cover of Daniel Johnston's "Story of an Artist". It doesn't mean that the cover can't be enjoyable.. this is certainly a good one. I think you'll find most cover artists are quite humble anyways. I doubt any of them are gonna say "my version is better than my idol's."
