My brother had this record back in the 70,s and i was just a kid i could,nt even play back then but this sure inspired me to try! Thanks for upping this.
Thanks for this beautyfull video! And original recording!
I was at the college at the time, playing music with my friends (1972 ). We where heavy ( and loud ) on playing rock music of selective kinds but genuine stuff at this time frame, Buchanan sound was also what we aim to achived to perform on stage for some play! I had the privilege to see Buchanan in consert in Montreal QC, and yes it was awsome!
Heard this when I was like 7 years old.. I'm 25 now. this song has grown on me & I feel apart of the generation that lived with this song. True classic.
One of the greatest blues quitarists of all times. Pitty he died so young!
This song is a real masterpiece. Rememeber some slow dancing during parties in the 70s! Unforgetable...And now my daughter listens to lady gaga. I feel so sorry...
My father was mad about him...... Once, our gramophone crashed... Now, he can hear it again, because he went in the heaven years ago... Rest in Peace, daddy !!
I FIRST LISTEN TO THIS WHEN I WAS 13 YEARS OLD ...LATE 70'S...AND I FINALLY FIND OUT WHO IS HE AND MANAGE TO GET THE CD AFTER FOUL 10 YEARS .HIS QUITAR SPEEKS TO MY HART
I had a chance to saw him live in Montreal at Place des arts in middle of 70th,he was little bit drunk , the show was about 40 minutes not more...i will never forgot that evening...So sad that guy suicide himself because a arest thing, mix with depressing life.Another Genious gone for nothing....
Never lost the faith. You're prescription saved me at a time when I was a sick and confused puppy. Thanks to both you and Natalia for being so patient and understanding
I had the pleasure of meeting Roy B. at the Crystal Spring swimming pool in New Kensington. My Cuz Gary inew and ploayed with roy ( Gary Daughtery). Definitely top 5 if not #1!!
This is pretty close to what I grew up with; the version off "Street called Straight".
Back then, pre CD's, only "Japanese pressings" could be played at high volume on this track. All others were crap.
I saw him live at the Adelaide Festival Theatre in 1980. He played this song early in the set. Some wanker heckled him during the poem at the start, but he didn't bother, and played the song. Then he played it for an encore to piss the guy off. The rest of us were very happy!
I went out and bought this album after hearing 'Cajun' on the radio, musta been '73. Always loved this version best, heard several but not sure about the 'Guitar on Fire' version. pjrobinson pls enlighten me. Caught his show in Melbourne, think it was '79 - astonishing. He could be incredibly lyrical, though renowned for his shredding. One of the greats. Tragic end, a complex man, as geniuses tend to be. I hear David Gilmour too, TaeKenDo, perhaps in the way he gets the max from a single note
The absolute best version of this song is on "Guitar on Fire - The Atlantic Sessions". I'll have to do a montage of that one, since I have it already uploaded in my PC. It's available on Amazon, by the way...all of those recording are. :)

First time I heard this I was a teen ager waiting outside the courthouse downtown toronto. My father was paying a parking ticket I played it over and over and fell in love...
I saw Roy in a little place called My Fathers Mustache on LI NY many years ago...this is one of the most astounding guitar riffs of all time. Roy was simply incredible.
Was about to comment on how you can hear Roy's influence on Dave Gilmour ala Shine on Crazy Diamond. I look up at the video and it's showing an ad for Roger Waters tickets. Anyway, LOVE Roy's soulful guitar.
I was lucky enough to see Roy play in Sydney on each of his 3 trips to Australia. I will never forget his concert at Selina's in Sydney. The place was pumping with Roy's rockin' stuff. Then he broke into The Messiah ! You could hear a pin drop until he cut loose ! Almost a religous experience !
this so awsom--I know Roy & heard him play live in George Town DC Believe me he was the greatest he was a special friend. I would love 2 have words put 2 this & other songs he played. He spoke through his music & I heard. Very blessed-he is still inmy heart
I just heard about this song on Gibson's Top 50 Guitar Solo's, never heard it before. I am officially reinspired as a guitar player! :D You can really hear the pain in this song
thank you a million times, definately the most moving piece of guitar work I have EVER heard (& I too first heard it 35years ago & bought 3 albums) It still moves me today
abartrom , wow mate!!!! where did this video come from ?????? one of the greatest tales played by the very best guitarist that ever walked the earth!!! Rip :(
@KARENK72886 this is the version from his 1st album so I guess its as original as you are gonna get (dunno if it is strictly studio or live doesnt say on the vinyl sleeve
@shemanic1 hi, I dunno, just thought I remember an album where the sound was more crisp. The album cover was green and had a pic of his guitar in the middle of it...may be wrong though!
About 4 years ago, i found an iPod in the street. It had about 12 songs on it. None of them had Artist or track title listings. This was 1 of the tracks on it. I didn't know what it was but I became obsessed with it. It took me over a year to hear it played somewhere else in a pool hall. I was so damn happy to finally have a name to track down. It's truly amazing work.
i wish people my age (16) would listen to this, Or at least fess up. When my father gave me the vinyl 'a street called straight' i was the happiest kid ever. an insane amount better then todays mainstream musicians, hands down.
Where and when did I hear this for the first time? Aboard the USS Independence in late winter of 1973 on a one speaker cassette player. I was eighteen then. It has stayed with me all these years as one of the best guitar numbers.
When I first heard Roy do this piece was on a reel to reel 35 years ago. I remember having tickets to see him play at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and that weekend we had a bad northeaster and the concert was canceled but wow I can still hear him play like it was yesterday.
@Vgirlification It's the title of a PBS documentary that was done about Roy in the late 70's early 80's. Apparently it slipped under your "Roy radar".
@brutalblues hey! thanks for answerin me but what was my question? also i only know of Roy from my son's father, he is a super music buff kinda guy, i was lucky to have met him and been exposed to so much wonderful music in the last wow , 15 years, can't believe it's been that long...
@Vgirlification you had posted the following to 22kruz in response to his/her post that said: worlds greatest unknown guitar player "honey, he is in no way "unknown' you are apparently super- young, which there is nothing wrong with that..... Peace......"
It doesn't matter, really. No biggie. Roy was great.
