In an interview Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio said that Originally in the movies Beckett was to be in love with Elizabeth but they felt that Elizabeth had too many men after her so they cut the Beckabeth Romance.

Though I do believe that Beckett and Elizabeth only speak 3 times between the two movies Cutler appears in and only once was it private, this relationship is a cute one, especially if you watch Pride and Prejudice with Mr. Collins and Elizabeth! Pretty creative ending, though :D
