  • sooooo that "reeeallly small thing is called a jack", im really surprised that you knew how to do this but have little knowledge of what their names where lol

  • Hehe!

  • Check out my channel, I have full 1080p video reviews.

  • Soldered my Koss Porta Pros to the earbud's white cables. Worked like a charm, thanks a lot! for your tutorial!

  • what else could you use other than a soldering iron? please help!

  • @amelz118 Pretty much you just have to use a soldering iron.. Not a whole lot else you could use.

  • lol Dumbass people. He did that to keep the mic and remote.

Why the fuck do people hate the original earbuds? I like them. They are comfortable and fit perfect. I hate the ones that have that rubber thing on them (Idk what they are called but its the ones the he put on) because they dont fit and I try all sizes and they still fall out!

  • @SONYElectronic It all comes down to you - if the apple headphones work for you, then fine. I personally HATE the apple-style ones that just sit in your ear. They fall out super-easily, and you really have to crank the sound up in order to hear anything, and everyone else can hear it then too. The ones with the shroom ends isolate the sound, letting you hear your music at lower levels, and not blasting music for everyone to hear. They also stay in nice, too.

  • is it absolutely necessary to use a soldering iron?

  • What was that black thing u had in your had when u took the wires out?

  • Very nice video, well done ^_^

    Thanks for sharing.

  • how do u open up ur earbuds ._. i used my teeth for the old one seeing how i won't use it

but how do you open up the marshmallows without cracking it

  • @samelel713 use a hamer

  • Update:

I fucked my earphones trying to open them, well had to have new one anyway..

  • My apple earphones won't open :(.

  • @Anestheticum Then cut the wire.

  • @Anestheticum Mine seem to be sealed well, theres definitely got to be a way to get em open though.

  • @Anestheticum try it with yours teeth because its esier

  • After watching this video I replaced my Etymotic er-6i's with an iPhone cord. Now I have my ipod controls and a microphone. Pretty simple too, in fact I think I may go this route with all my headphones.

  • Get,,"Your.,~IPOD~""Here'",

    Copy.,~And','Paste~"~

  • dude it worked ! cool now i dont have to pull 50 $ out my ass to pay for head set^_^

  • @skygirl341 wow u can pull money out your ass? nice!

  • yo the problem is with the buttons

  • @NewEarBuds

Just in case you might not know, Future Shop is owned by Best Buy.

  • lol 3:13 Shapeshifter

  • ur cute :p

  • pause at 3:13 haha!

  • What make of soldering iron are you using?

  • why not just get some headphones that have the mic thing in them

  • Simple to use the FUCKING MIC

  • you fucking retard. headphones are those big ones that cover your ears. earphones are these thing.

    Fucking asshole.

  • i cant take apart the earbud. how can you do that?

  • no im looking for a problem that comes out of the blues and now i have to like twist the ear buds to listen to them and if there not right i wont be able to listen to them

  • no im looking for a problem that comes out of the lues and now i have to like twist the ear buds to listen to them and if there not right i wont be able to listen to them

  • Save yourself $100? WAT?

  • Please.... What would be the point of that?? unless one of the earbuds was broken, like it got blown out or something(if thats the case its understandable) but why destroy 2 pair of earbuds when you could just use the marshmallows?

  • @SireSquire5 he wanted to save the mic and remote

  • Thanks!

  • prob so u can use the mic u dummies

  • WHY NOT JUST USE THE OTHER PAIR?

  • OR, you could search "acoustibuds" for an actual fix, without having to ruin your perfectly good ear buds...

  • Comment removed

  • so whats wrong with just putting the other ones on?

  • wtf!? just plug the marshmallows, arent they 3.5 mm?

  • Easy peasy. So good, thanks for giving me the knowledge on how to do this.

Everyone I asked said it wasn't possible, but it's super easy and quick to do!

  • Since those little rubber rings seem to be not available this is a great idea. Plus you can better sound.. GREAT

  • My wires on my apple earbuds broke off from the earbud speaker part in the earbud, my question is how do I fix it so my that one will work? I don't have money to go and buy newer, better earphones. I don't have a solder iron to attach the wires back to the speaker part.. So what would be the best next thing I could do to attack the wiring back on?

  • lol future shop and best buy are the same company

  • funny looking but good idea

  • Thanks man! nice video

  • why dont you just plug the marshmallows in?

  • One of my earbuds stopes working so I was thinking about putting on another apple earbud

  • My $50 earbuds are blown out within 4 months of purchase. I am really pissed off since it was the most expensive headphones I've ever bought. I usually replace headphones ever 4-6 months due to the earbuds blowing out on me mainly because I listen at max volume to get the full experience.

  • @StanHowser try some in-ear headphones,then you won't have to crank them to 11....

  • fkin sick,thx bro .)))

  • Its weird , the iPod headphones never fell off, no matter what i did, and the earbuds always do, but anyway, good video.

  • *COUGHbuybetterheadphoneCOUGH* i suggest skull candy aysm for "ear buds" (actually called in ear headphones) and they have 3 different sized ear pieces ( the rubber piece so it fit ur ears better and they sound a shit load better than these) and they still have a straight 3.5mm jack not the L shaped ones. and for over ear the Sennheiser 418 they are awesome i bought some yesterday and another pair for my sister today they look good and sound amazing and also have the straight 3.5mm jack.

  • u are the best thx mate

  • do u know how to fix the head phones earbud the red and orange wires 0:39 ?? please help me

  • can i give you a blow job for that?

  • Anyone have idea how to get a peice of earphone broke off in the area you plug into? desktop computer

  • That was a great idea. Thank you. I was having problem finding a earphone that fits my ears and never thought about that. It was kind of challenging to remove the caps/speaker element, but I did it. Thanks again.

  • dude thats very helpful, thanks!!!

  • marry me.

  • dude its very good video thanxs

  • can u tell me which of the two wires (the copper wire or the other one) is positive or negative i know its not important to the vid but i want to know because of a porject im working on myself and i just need to know

  • do you have to get more sawder, or can yor use the one that already came in it

  • i cant take it off

  • it also works with the sennheiser cx 500 thx for the good and detailed tutorial

  • HOLLY CRAP I DID IT ...WOW THANK X DUDE

  • Dude...I bought a 50$ pair of headphones with Kevlar coating on the wires....they came withb5 different sets of buds and they sound great!

  • Can Anybody please tell me which side which wire goes to on this thing? My left ear bud broke open and ripped off and I've been trying to find out but no videos I can find show a clear enough picture of the original wiring. Thanks

  • will the remote work with all its features like volume, pause, mic, control music playback, etc... after doing this repair???

  • @kornavr24 Yes the remote and mic will work after the repair. The signal from the remote and mic goes to the iPod or iPhone to tell it what to do. it doesn't tell the earbuds what do do

  • Wow this is pretty sweet. Altho you still gotta buy another pair of earphones lol

  • if you want to fit your ears and sound comfortable when you are sharing your moment,so now you can feel the noise cancelling replacement earbuds from Boseonsale. com

  • @

    wobblydog40

Ya hear Apple deactivated the phone therefore they couldnt turn it on

Lots of ppl viewing this video don't have the $ to acquire the iPhone 4g, it's just going to cost alot

Luckily I discovered on the Apple website yesterday they are giving away a ton of iphone 4gs. If your lazy, this is the link to their contest page ... just copy and paste

    igxr。com/iphone4gfree70

And the they ask for at the end is FACEBOOK10037

  • If you really want to open Apple's headphones and you don't have that kind of finger nails, I'd suggest to hit them against the table and it will open, worked for me twice (really works, doesn't just brake your headphones). ;)

  • i did this thing like you; now i have the sennheiser cx400 with ipod control. very nice!!!

  • @MUSIC101LUVER1016

I would say, the best thing about the 4g would probably be nicer screen and also maybe more megapixels on camera

Lots of you people watching this vid simply can't purchase new iPhone, since it will be $489

Good news, I learned on Apples face book page Thursday they are giving away a ton of iPhone 4gs. If your lazy, this is the link to their contest site ... just copy and paste

    way。com/iphone4gfree58

Oh yeah, the for the last page is FACEBOOK7344

  • WTF! what do you have the finger nails of a bag lady!?

  • u know the blue headphones u had probably also has a 3.5 mm port so all the shit u went through was just for nothing lmao

  • @mantheman100

not really, if the headphones are for ipod shuffle and you want to keep the control?

  • thanks alot

  • Nice vid. Thanks.

  • @kavinNavrrow1 at walmart and there like $8

  • has anyone ever de-soldered the headphone jack and used a new one? I can't figure out which wire goes where.

  • @BionicTom just buy a new pair.... for like 4 bucks on ebay, 9 at walmart...

  • who the bloody hell owns a soldering iron!?

  • Hahahahaahah. No. You broke them! Why te hell would you want to put Bose ear phone on shitty apple wiring/mic? I think I wana put a lamborghini engine in a pinto... Tht makes sense... And it's all somebody elses fault.

  • you made me brake my $140 bose head phones that already had the mic and remote

  • @TheNickloyd You are a fucking idiot then. Why would you do this to a pair of headphones that didn't need it? Nobody "made" you do anything.

  • @TheNickloyd he didnt make you do anything, you did this at your own risk... dumb ass

  • how much does a sautering iron and where can i find one?

  • Comment removed

  • Works with SkullyCandy Ink'd

  • REALLY? I never thought it would. I tried this with the smokin buds and completely ruined them. I want to try it now.

  • I need to get me some soldering tool and superglue.

  • @bati555

You don't need to go through this procedure. I just bought some jabra eargels off ebay for like 7 bucks (clear ones) and they work REALLY well. The iphone's headphones are really good but the ergonomics is utter crap. With the jabra eargels, they stay in your ear very comfortably for long periods of time and the sound quality gets a lot better.

  • Even if it is better it still doesn't match having actual noise isolating earbuds.

  • @gumdrops27 Well nothing that is over the ears does. You are expecting over the ear earphones to compare to in-ear monitors. If you want to get those, just go to head-direct and pick up a pair of RE0 for 30 bucks. They kick the ass off every klipsh , skull candy and a majority of other iems.

  • @bati555

By the way, I am not saying that his is stupid or something. Its a great idea, but I don't feel comfy soldering such tiny joints. Not too good with soldering iron :p. If you have some amazing earbuds with great drivers this would be a better option than what I am suggesting.

  • ipod earphones cost soooo much...and they are shiiiit!!!!!

  • iPhone headphones are the worst! Seriously, the more you listen to them, the quieter they get untill eventually, more noise comes out of the air holes than the actual ear bud. And no, I don't have dirty ears!

  • cant you use some normal ear phones on the itouch/ipod? i got soem from bose those are pure greatnes i po ear phones are shity and over priced

  • @frogmanlego

yea you can but people do this because they still want to have the mic and the remote that is built in to the apple earphones.

  • thanks man, did it on an old pair of earbuds - saved me about 20 bucks

  • Comment removed

  • Great video. I can't seem to get the earbuds apart though. Anyone have any ideas?

  • @GatorGirl1618

If ur talking about the apple earphones just break them open ur only using the chord

  • Great Video thank you

  • 1w31w: you definitely need a soldering iron (and probably some extra tin) to desolder and resolder the wires. No other way around that, sorry.

Fortunately. you'll find nice entry level irons from any decent hardware store in very affordable price.

  • Just replaced my apple earbuds with a pair of Lenntek's following this video, works great now!

  • i dont have a soldering iron wot do i need to use to melt the solder?

  • I'm gonna need to do this. Earbuds never ever fit in my ears for some reason.

  • Thanks dude I just saved 30.00 on new apple earbubs.

  • i just wish Apple would allow for you to replace the earpieces themselves,... because if you buy the new ipod shuffle, the only sound changing is the remote on the headphones, so if you change the headphones with your new shuffle, you're screwed

  • isn't this what this video is about?

    How to do it yourself?

  • ye, but its insanely hard if you dont know how to do it.......

  • Does anyone know how to fix skull candy ink'd earphones?

  • great idea but you can get some radius atomic bass headphones at amazon for 10 more dollars instead of buying the marshmalllows

  • hey thanks i was looking for this and im going to replace mines with ear hooks that wont fall out

  • Excellent!! Very much enjoyed the video--now ANOTHER piece to mod!!--thank you..

  • You are the man!

    Thanks a lot

  • after inspection of my headphones, which are also JVC, i have realized that they are next to impossible to open up without breaking (to an amateur like me anyway). Would it be possible to just cut the wires of each and swap them like that? (sticking them together with solder and heat shrink)

  • thanks this is pretty much i needed for what i want, the apple earphones suck

  • btw that small thing at the end is called "a jack"

  • awesome! smart and cute :)

  • Thanks dude, worked a treat. Breaking into the Marshmallows was a bit tricky, but kept at it and after the 1st one was pretty ok. Took more than a fingernail for both the Marshmallows and old Ear buds. But worked a treat... Many thnx.

  • thx man! awesome! works great :D

  • dude my headphone anit broken but the whole where u blog the headphone in is really lose and i can only hear from one side of the headphone, so if anyone know what should i do please tell.i did't want to take it to best buy to fix it cause it jail broken and dont want to get in trouble.

  • you can un-jailbrake the ipod touch/iphone restoring it

  • Hehehehehe a place called futureshop

It's funny to me cause I live in Vancouver B.C, Canada :)

  • marshmallows - poke the bottom curve of the case to the left of the "R" and the right of the "L" and pry it up. (you can see that's where he digs his fingernail in to pry open the case) once you get those little corners pried up the case should pop right off. there are three pegs that hold the case on that might break off. there's one on the top and right below the "L/R" and on the adjacent sides. no need to work your way around using a razor blade, the case will come off.

  • Awesome !

  • i used to like the apple headphones but i love my beats by dre and apple ones i got like 5 replacements form then but in like 3 weeks there all gone

  • Grrrr. first try i broke the little pce of fibreglass that is glued to the speaker - be careful!!!!...gotta hunt ebay for another pair of mushrooms now..

  • Is there any way to fix the apple earbuds without replacinf the bud?

  • ive had those exact headphones, they worked for a while but unfortunately for me being a swimmer and all, they werent waterproof >.>

  • Cool story bro.

  • mine sound good

  • HOW DID YOU OPEN THOSE MARSHMALLOW EARPHONES?

I've been trying to open mine to fix them but it's like they're laser sealed!!!

    THNX!!!!!

  • thank u so much haha i steped on my iphone head phones and broke it and took my old ipod headphones and replace the ear pice and the inside and now they work like new that u so much

  • love it. worked like a champ.

  • y not just buy new headphones

  • Comment removed

  • Because some people...

    1. ...can't find them and don't wanna buy off internet.

    2. ...are extremely frugal.

  • holy crap mine just went through the wash and are fine.

  • HAHAHA "some place called Futureshop"

  • umm when i pulled my ipod ear phones apart..i got 2 wires..thats all..whats the third one man?

how can i reconnect an old pair that broke apart a while ago too..?

  • If you already bought the headset why not just use them? Why tear your iPhone apart and possibly break them?!?!

  • 1. the JVC marshmallows don't have a mic or the volume control. Many other headsets do not have the controller portion either unless you spend ridiculous amounts of money on them .

    2. Eventually the iPhone earphones will fail, one side on my earphone stopped working (I used mine everyday at the gym). I replaced it with some white Sony earbuds that I purchased for $4.99 and its better then spending $29.99 for the originals that apple sells!!

    Awesome DIY project!!

  • My iphone earphones also had the same problem (on side stopped working). 2day i went to the Genius bar and they replaced them with brand new ones! I didn't have to pay anything.

  • I have good and bad luck with apple, Ive never had a problem exchanging my iPhone but when it come to accessories they never exchange them for me.... They told me that the warranty on iPhone had expired and that I couldn't exchange it but I exchanged my iphone out of warranty many times..... GO figure that one out.

  • Very good

  • Thank you. It took 15 minutes to install a pair of buds from Philips.. Now I have great sound and they stay in place.

  • i broke mine headphones you all bitches

  • what really surprised me about this vid is some of the level of stupidity of some comments below,as fun as it is to diys, most people dont actually want to have to resort to do this just to have a functional piece of wire , and the nerve to even be making wise cracks.man, they should have them put and be murdered, just like they do in the dog pounds, infact i think a trained dog is more intelligent, they save lives.not being in youtube making comments trying to make this guy feel like an idiot .

  • I did this and it came out quite well, though I cracked the outer part of the Marshmallow case taking it apart, but no big deal.

To everyone else commenting on this:

The iPhone comes with a crappy pair of earbuds.

If you use non-Apple earbuds, you can't use the microphone to talk on the phone, or the remote control/volume buttons, making your iPhone MUCH less useful.

You can buy 'better' Apple buds with mic/remote, but they cost over $100.

So, doing this just saved me about $80.

    Thanks!

  • i have an ipod touch and an ipod headphone.. the problem is a few day ago, when i wanted to listen to my ipod, the sound that go out from the headphone was like, kind of weird.. u know when u can hear half of what the guy sing and hear clearly the instrument and then i tried my friend's ipod headphone and it did the same thing, so i tried to put my ipod headphone on my laptop, on my other mp3 and i was able to hear the whole song clearly..so i dunno its the problem of my ipod or my headphone..

  • software update? take it to the apple store, they have great customer service.

  • omg, i have the same problem. I don't know what to do D=

  • the same thing happened with my itouch with my skull candies and my apple headphones!!

  • that happens if your touch's headphones port isn't grounded any more. Hope you're still under warranty

  • you cant just "buy new headphones" why is that, any other headphones dont have a MIC built into them, that was the whole point of the video, think about it

  • DO THEY SOUNDS BETTER OR WHAT? CUZ LIKE I HAVE LIKE ALOT OF BROKEN HEADPHONES! lol

  • why the fuck would any1 go through all that just buy new head phones!

  • Anyone tried this with Apples in-ear, not the ones that is shown here? How do I take those apart?

  • why the fuck would you take those apart!?!??! they are $79! and they are nice.

  • uhh no they r horrible. thats just my opinion

  • or you can buy new headphones??

  • first of all just wana say thanks for the video, very useful, i actually did this with my ipod earphones and it works perfectly, and when you switch your buds over to the marshmellows, will it have ipod sound quality or marchmellow sound quality, i just used ipod buds to do a switcharoo, but though about using the marshmellows in the near future

  • you can actually use any regular headphones with the ipod.
