@fuzter2007 the only reason the newer muscler cars are safer than the older one is people like you that cant drive for damit. lets face it you live a a huge city with lots of people and i live in a small town of only 500 people and i own a 1972 plymouth roadrunner and 1966 satelite and i can drive those cars around and as fast i want to without the nervous feeling that someone is gonna be stupid and run into me or pull out in front of me. lets face it the big city people cant drive.
Nice to see a video of a Superbird doing what it was built for, being driven hard, not sitting in some rich douchebag's garage gathering dust as an "investment".
My husband and I also own a lime green bird 440 6 pak. He drives it like it should be driven...gas on. I'm easy on it when I drive it. We have had it since 1990
@Xx75racer75xX I still have both of my Superbirds. I know both of the last two owners of the car in this video. The one friend sold it to the other in 1985 and that friend passed away in 1990. The family kept the car til about five years ago. VIN is RM23V0A167052 if anyone sees the car around anywhere, the first owner may be interested in getting the car back.
Manufacturers need to go back to the old times and start making rides like tihs again. Not sorta of like these or close to, but right down to the frame. @majordave223 I agree 100% with everything you said. Unfortunately, the car manufacturers are mandated by Washington to put that emissions crap and other shit. I'd like me some REAL steel with a 4 barrel carb. Whatever happened to Free Enterprise?
Looks like another snot-nosed punk that needs to put down the crack pipe. That was one of the most ignorant comments I've ever seen. More proof that the internet breeds morons.
wow i dont even know what that means they havent rolled a real muscle car of an assembly line in over 35 years.all of these modern classic looking sports cars that the big 3 are getting bailouts to build I dont consider muscle cars. I am a sucker for the early 00's trans ams and firebirds but i doubt your gonna see an increase in the value for them in 40 years like the mopars and beasts from that day. Remember there is no replacement for displacement. Awesome car.
@OneBadSuperbird the thumbs up to the agressive answers to my comment about "today muscle cars are better in all ways" is only because there are a lot of nostalgic people here.
the modern muscle cars are faster, has better performance, are safer..... this is only history. and the fans of classic cars who hate the modern cars....well: they are nostalgic people who couldn`t see the reality like it is...
@fuzter2007 i have a 69 roadrunner that would pretty much blow any of the new muscle cars of the road it gotts a 512 sixpack that putts out 618 horsepower @5400 rpm and 667 footpounds of torque @ 4400 rpm and its street legal and there is no problem to use it as a daily driver. sure the new cars take the corners alot better but you are not gonna race with a car like this on laguna seca.
@snabeldrakenpatrik i was talking about standard cars. with engines without modifications. of course, it`s possible make modifications in a new car, too.
if you make improvements in a new car, the results is better to make a race car on laguna seca...
@fuzter2007 Nice try buddy. People like you will never have a clue. Modern cars are nice for what they are but they will never even come close to having what the old cars do. I have spent my entire life around cars and I guarantee that I have forgotten more about these cars than you will ever know. If you only had a clue how ignorant you come across to people who know cars by saying crap like that. How old are you, 16?
@OneBadSuperbird As much as it pains me, I have to agree with futzer. I have owned several multicarbed big block Plymouths. I drove around in a Loaded FY1 Air Grabber 6 barrel 4 speed #s matching Road Runner when I was 19 and they werent worth crap in 89 when the market fell . I ran consistent 12s but the kids today have extremely quick cars, especially the tuners. I am an old car nut forever but I would hate to plunk down Hemi/6 barrel coin and get killed by a WRX running 10s with the a/c on.
@OneBadSuperbird well im 14 and i know alot about cars, but only modern ones :(, i wish i knew more about classics like this, i do know quite alot about them but not all. I love classic american muscle, especially the plymouth superbird, chevvy camaros, mustangs, chargers the list goes on
@DJDrOWNZ Stick with it! I've been into this for over 30 years and I'm still learning more and more every day. It's good to see the younger generation getting into the older musclecars. Us old timers need someone to carry the torch once we're gone.
@OneBadSuperbird I'm 27 and I totally agree with ya as I have owned both rice burnin crapmobiles and a majority of MOPARs and my daily driver slant with the glasspack on a 4 foot exhaust has more muscle feel to it then my buddies drag prepped RX& and he even agrees that there isnt anything on the raod today that has the same presences as a big block drum brake no power steering 5000 lb car lol
@OneBadSuperbird the thumbs up to the agressive answers to my comment about "today muscle cars are better in all ways" is only because there are a lot of nostalgic people here.
the modern muscle cars are faster, has better performance, are safer..... this is only history. and the fans of classic cars who hate the modern cars....well: they are nostalgic people who couldn`t see the reality like it is...
name one muscle car from today thats better - all the new stuff is computerised crap. the only halfway decent looking cars today are retro copies of 70's cars. give me original 700's stuff anyday. its worth more,. too.
today muscle car has a lot of computerised features.....but why electronic is worst than mechanics? today cars has alluminum engines, more hp, better mileage, more confortable, and of course has a superb handling and breaking. this superbee is nice to show, to ride on weekends, but not for daily use, and not for track use.
I disagree - my car is a 351 Falcon coupe built in 1973 and its my only car - gets used everyday for shopping, the lot. As for modern cars, if the computer dies, you're stranded - you can't fix them by the side of the road - in Australia, where I live, if you're in the middle of nowhere that can literally kill you. Tourists have died in the outback here on more than one occasion cos their hire car died and they couldn't fix it themselves.. oh, and most new cars are heavier and uglier too....
i disagree. old car, without electronics, have much more posibbilities of failures, because carb and traditional ignition are less reliable.
you could use everyday your falcon, nice car... but why to live like 1973, if you live in 2010?
still better: if you have a buggy with two horses, and you have water and grass with you, like in 1780, you could travel all around australia with less trouble of any mechanics device!
Not true. There is LESS that can go wrong because there is less TO go wrong..if you have 2 basic devices compared to dozens of very complex devices , the chances of failure will be less. Besides, if carbys and points do go wrong you can fix them by the side of the road with a screwdriver ( i should admit though that I have converted my points to electronic...)
people died in the middle of nowhere because the modern cars? well... i disagree, because it sounds very extreme ( no cell phones? nobody use this routes, to help? etc..) but:
you said you can fix an old car... but only if you know how to fix a car!! how many users are mechanics?
most of the users have no-idea how to fix a car, for they a died computer or accel-wire broken, it´s the same: the car is stopped.
@fuzter2007 ohh contrare the engine were bigger back then....and were allowed to go extremely fast speeds....in 1970 NASCAR put an end to those kind of cars because of this specific car....the 70 superbird was so fast, and put the bar up higher, so NASCAR told everyone there was a specified engine, body etc. Besides if you gave the engine the superbird had the buffs of todays it would be accelerating much faster and maybe even a higher top end speed.
@fuzter2007 no there was no computers back then the engine got to be an engine in those days and werent told how to be an engine and also i dont think they ever made a car faster than the superbird it topped out at like 240 mph
@fuzter2007 Oh yeah your new 6 cylinder cars with touchscreen and bluetooth are way better than cars that got kicked out of nascar for being too fast, back then you could get a car with 500 hp stock and do 9 sec. Funny how the Bugatti Veyron can only do 10.1 with 16 cylinders and 4 turbos. Cars nowadays suck ass
lol I bet the vast majority of 1970 Superbird owners today would cry seeing this video but really these cars were made to be DRIVEN, not to be in a garage collecting dust, damn you Barret Jackson!
LOL we did have fun but I guess you missed the part where this video was shot in 1983. I still have my Superbirds but the dufus that owned this one sold it in 1985. What a fool he was!!!
Did you have any idea they would be worth what they are now? From what I understand at the time nobody wanted them because they were funny looking... how can anyone say that?? Anyways kudos for hanging on to them!
At the time, we knew that someday these cars would go way up in value. We never knew they'd go as high as they did a couple years ago before the bottom fell out of the economy...and the country.
This was shot in 1983. We were just kids with old musclecars. The "Dukes Of Hazzard" was in it's heyday. We were having fun with a new video camera (hardly anyone had one back then) and we were just out screwing around. A lot of people forget there was once a time when these were just cars with big engines that hauled ass.
Ah yes looking at the video again i can see all the other cars are from around the 80s. How big was your video camera, did it take 2 guys to carry it ? he-he
The cars we had back then were pathetic as i live in the uk. Thats why i drive muscle cars now............Good Luck man !
LOL sometimes it did take two people to carry the camera! It was a Panasonic light commercial unit which was a shoulder-mount camera with a separate portable VHS deck connected with like an eight foot cord. What a pain that was! Because of having that old honker of a camera though, we're able to post these cool old videos to YouTube!
could try to find a 70 satellite and hake a clone bird. I saw one for sale down here in houston texas for 500.and man i wish i had the money for it would have bought it and made me a clone superbird.and the only way id get i would of it would be the day i died.
cool video i just bought a 70 roadrunner post that im going to restore to a 440 six pack 4 speed clone check my vid out og my 65 fury 3 2 door hard top i restored
Now THAT is the way to drive a car. Not on a trailor of 15 under the speedlimit all the time. Its got outboard carburators and they are suppost to be used!
Survived it's owner? Are you kidding me? This is how these cars were driven. A good many of them were driven a LOT harder than this one. This car not only survives but is currently undergoing a rotisserie restoration in Texas. These cars weren't always show poodle trailer queens.
Hmmm, Interesting. What a shame you have access to such a nice car (assuming it's a real superbird and not a clone). Repeatedly putting the car (and yourself) in harms way with sideways drifts in traffic is just painful to watch. Did your Dad find out you took his car out for a Joy Ride yet?
Comgratulations! You just won our YouTube Moron Of The Month Award! Get off your high horse and get in the real world buddy. I don't know what planet you're from but these cars were meant to be driven hard. Yes, it is an orginal 440 Six Barrel automatic Superbird. The owner sold the car in 1985. I still have all three of my winged cars and yes, they all get driven hard. I guess people like you will never know the fun of putting a musclecar through it's paces. Drive it like ya stole it.
Excellent, Good News all Around. The 'Bird lives, has new owners and I've won an Award, Thanks! In your stable of Winged Warriors are they RM23U0A, 'V0A or (gulp) 'R0A powered? And Yes I do know the pleasure of putting a muscle car through its paces. My 68 Charger (440-Six-Pack) and 69 Camaro (B&M 174 Supercharged) spent many a night at the OCIR Friday Night Street Drags as well as Saturdays at Carlsbad Raceway. As Sgt. Hulka once said "Lighten Up Francis!"
No worries, we take our winged cars seriously here. So when someone makes a crack about pampering these things, they get the hammer dropped on em. The green car is a 440 Six Barrel column automatic bench seat car.
It's all good. One of the reasons I get so defensive is because I've owned my white Superbird for 29 years and when I think back on all the fun I've had with that car, all the places it's been, all the drag races it's run, all the laps out on the high banks at the various wing car meets, all the late night street races, all the cruising on Woodward, Telegraph and Gratiot and just all the other cool stuff the car has done over the years, it's memories that last a lifetime.
Love your way of thinking on driving classic muscle cars.for thats how they should be driven.and not be sitting in a show room being wiped down with a diaper.
Wow that's an incredible bird...haha I was looking at getting into MoPar (I currently own a '72 Cultass) and purchasing this '73 Satellite I saw for sale the other day...just to put those badass Plymouth decals on. (Well, not really, but it's the thought that counts. =])
Jealous, are we? Here we have more ignorance from yet anoither internet moron. Hey, what's in your garage? I swear people today love hiding behind that keyboard and making ignorant comments! It may be time to get a clue!
Damn that thing runs really good to be such a big heavy car I don't think he was giving it all it had at first, I also thought the car was weak at first till he started getting on it more then I thought it was fast.
Some old classic american cars are quite cool.. but this is american car design at its ugliest.. What was ever the point in this.. A wing on the back of a car is to help it corner at high speed. In a straight line it will LIMIT speed and just be in the way. This car corners like a shrimp vessel anyway because its got leaf suspension from the old testament and a cast iron frame softer than a 4 post bed. Alot of weird stuff was made back then and this is one of those weird things.
This comment shows ignorance and stupidity at it's finest. Obviously, you have absolutely no clue about history, NASCAR homologation and aerodynamics. The nose, wing, rear window plug, A-pillar deflectors and fender scoops are ALL there for a reason. Maybe it's time you did some research before you go running your fingers on the keyboard. Congratulations! You won the Internet Moron Of The Month Award!!!
Dude my brother and father are very into these cars and own several... So I know my bit. They didnt really have windtunnels did they.. and the budgets for research was.. about zero in the era wehn this car was developed. I know its american and therefore simply must be the best thing in the universe but.. its been a few decades now. Let it go. The king is gone.
LOL grasshopper, I suggest you do some research & brush up on your automotive history. The Superbirds and Daytonas were 100% developed in wind tunnels and Chrysler dumped huge money into these projects. "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" was the way it was. Oh, and what does a few decades have to do with anything? An original race Daytona or Superbird with chassis and engine updates could easily run 240 MPH laps at Talladega. Time to get off whatever high horse you're on & learn some respect.
I just realized you are the same moron that posted a while back. Are you trying to win the Moron Of The Month award for two months in a row? I just re-read your first comment from a while back and had to laugh again! Were you born stupid or did you just become that way? Go brush up on your automotive history before you dispense any further diarrhea from your keyboard.
Yup, I hear ya all the way. One thing though. I do use an enclosed trailer for hauling the cars around. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's getting caught in the rain with a car with a nice undercarriage! So we haul em wherever we're going, unload em and then have some fun! Keeping the cars out of the weather can go a long ways towards preserving the old sheetmetal!
Thanks! The fellow that owned this Superbird sold it in 1985 but I still have both of my Superbirds and my Daytona. One of the Superbirds is a rotisserie resto 440 Six pack 4-speed and the other is the red, white and blue drag car shown in a few of my other videos. The Daytona is also featured in another one of my videos at the Mopar Nationals burnout contest. All three cars are regularly flogged. If ya can't enjoy em why have em! Thanks for stopping by and checking out our videos!
Hey I hate to burst your little bubble there but Dodge referred to their three two barrel set up as "Six Pack" while Plymouth referred to it as "Six Barrel". Looks like it might could be time to brush up on your Mopar trivia before opening your ,outh and inserting your foot.
wasn't plymouth cars with the six barrel set up marked as "440+6"? i've never heard it referred to as any thing but a six pack (broadly describing both dodge and plymouth lines) or "four forty plus six". it's true that the technical term for the plymouth division was the "six barrel" moniker, but i think you can agree the lame mans term for any morpar 6 barrel set up is universally "Six pack", correct or not. i think your just splitting hairs to wax knowledge on another car guy.
My comment was in reference to the person "telling" me it's a "six pack". Actually the air cleaner lid says "440 Six Barrel", the scoop on '69 1/2 A12 Road Runners says "440 6 BBL" and the side of '70 Road Runner hood bulges says "440+6". I just call the darn thing a "Six Pack" and call it a day but the original commenter needed correcting as apparently. he didn't know the actual Plymouth jargon for "Six Pack".
Yeah but for driving around town, the torque the 440 puts out is what's really special. That's why the car spins the tires so easily even at low RPMs. Nice how that 727 chirps the tires on WOT 1-2 shifts too eh? Sure don't make trannies like they used to.
Awesome video! It's so rare to see one of these cars, let alone see them being driven as they were meant to be driven. And LOL at a 96 Z28 being worth anything at all in 30 years. What made these cars special, the 96 Z certainly lacks. Just about any late model car lacks, in fact.
I agree with you except for one thing. Back in 1981 when I got my first Superbird, I distinctly remember the old-timer collectors of '30's-'50's cars telling me that cars like my Superbird would never be worth anything because they lacked what the "classics" had. Cool cars appeal to the generation that grew up with them. In 30 years when the folks that love Superbirds and others like it are all old-timers, today's generation will be clamoring for the hot cars of today that have survived.
30 years huh? well i just checked ebay and the most a mint 1979 camaro will go for is like $15000. i really don't ever see a 96 worth much at all in 30 years. maybe in japan where that body style is popular.. i could be wrong, but i dont see any car from the 90's other than some firehawk's, WS6's (maybe an SS) or the ZR1 worth much.
In the early nineties you could only get $20,000 for a totally restored 6 barrel 69 roadrunner... that's what, $100,000 today? Not sure anymore, I don't pay attention or care any more... but you could get a completely restored Hemi for $25-30k max in the early nineties, now multiply that by 4-5. I'd say the Trans Ams have a better shot than the Camaros, because they have the cool graphics. Also, 49-52beetles go for $50k now. I'm betting 60's muscle has hit it's peak compared to other old cars.
The driver. Love the hair and mustache, and how he gets into the Bird dukes of hazard style.
The car. What a clean machine, looks as new, love the color and vinyl top. You'll never see another Superbird driving like this folks.
Great footage, don't know what the owner gave for this car but lord knows that car is worth a ton of money now.
Few older cats I know talk about the late 70's and early 80's when hot/classic muscle cars were kind of castaways that could be had for very little. Crazy.
The Dukes Of Hazzard was in it's heyday when this video was shot so getting in the car through the window was kind of a fun thing. We were both kids at the time (19 and 21) and we both had Superbirds. The morons on YouTube rag on us for beating on our cars but I'll tell ya what, we had more fun than you could ever imagine. He gave $3,400 for that green Bird in 1982 and sold it for $10,000 in 1985. I still have the Bird I had then and have added another Bird and a Daytona to the stable.
I bought my second Superbird in 2001. It is a 440 Six Pack 4-speed 3.54 Dana car in Lemon Twist Yellow. It's a 37,000 mile car that was all matching numbers. The car needed a total restoration (it has since undergone a complete rotisserie resto) and I gave $25,000 for it in 2001. Good luck on acquiring a Bird. Once you own one, you'll be hooked for life!
I hear ya there. I don't know if you noticed or not but that green Superbird was the chase car for the first video you commented on of my white Superbird and the orange Cuda racing. It's hard to believe that was about a quarter of a century ago. I remember it all like it was just yesterday. A lot of the videos I have posted on here are memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks for stopping by and checking out our videos.
Thanks! In today's day and age, it's amazing looking back on those days. Gone but never forgotten. YouTube is a great way to share the memories of back in the day.
wow-seeing that thing get sideways back in 83-was sweet-you will never see a superbird or daytona do that ever again cause there worth so much now-enjoy this vid while its on here cause a bird doing sideways action will never happen again-unless its a clone or something.
Hey wait a minute here. I have two Superbirds and a Daytona. All three are taken out and flogged regularly. You can see the Daytona on one of my other videos in the Mopar Nationals butnout contest and the race Superbird making a 1/4 mile pass. That Bird is in getting a four-link, cage and Indy aluminum 451. The yellow 440 Six Pack 4-speed Bird is a rotisserie resto and even it gets taken out and flogged regularly. Not all wing cars are show poodles!
Those were the days! These Mopars have dramatically shot up in value the last few years. I saw Big Daddy Don on a TV show a few years ago, it was taped at the Mopar Nationals. As he walked among that awesome American Iron, he made reminded the younger viewers, "Make no mistake about it, these Hemis ('Cudas, SuperBirds, Chargers, Daytonas, etc) have the power to suck any modern car right in their tail pipe.
LOL! Not this again! Dude, they were built to be pounded on! Sorry to disappoint you but we don't treat em like show poodles and trailer queens! Drive it like ya stole it and don't look back!
Lol i didnt mean it in a show poodle way i meant do u haul on er ?? cuz i also belive this is how they were meant to be driven not the show poodle way
All three of my wing cars get a regular thrashing. The red, white and blue Superbird gets run the hardest seeing as how it is a purpose-built drag car. Look for lots of videos of that car from the track next summer. I'll have to shoot some footage of the Lemon Twist 440 Six Pack 4-speed car being put through it's paces too. Thanks for checking out our videos!
He got in dukes of hazard style... Nice

I have spent my entire life around cars and I guarantee that I have forgotten more about these cars than you will ever know. If you only had a clue how ignorant you come across to people who know cars by saying crap like that. How old are you, 16?
OneBadSuperbird 1 year ago 24
@OneBadSuperbird As much as it pains me, I have to agree with futzer. I have owned several multicarbed big block Plymouths. I drove around in a Loaded FY1 Air Grabber 6 barrel 4 speed #s matching Road Runner when I was 19 and they werent worth crap in 89 when the market fell . I ran consistent 12s but the kids today have extremely quick cars, especially the tuners. I am an old car nut forever but I would hate to plunk down Hemi/6 barrel coin and get killed by a WRX running 10s with the a/c on.

@OneBadSuperbird pure nostalgic.. i`m 43, by the way... and i was owner of this kind of cars, at the early 80s...
funny words: you`re a nostalgic man...
fuzter2007 1 year ago
@OneBadSuperbird well im 14 and i know alot about cars, but only modern ones :(, i wish i knew more about classics like this, i do know quite alot about them but not all. I love classic american muscle, especially the plymouth superbird, chevvy camaros, mustangs, chargers the list goes on
DJDrOWNZ 1 year ago
@DJDrOWNZ Stick with it! I've been into this for over 30 years and I'm still learning more and more every day. It's good to see the younger generation getting into the older musclecars. Us old timers need someone to carry the torch once we're gone.
OneBadSuperbird 1 year ago
@OneBadSuperbird cool, i sure will. thanks for the encouragement :)

@fuzter2007 dude that 2010 camaro looks like a toy so i dont like all moder muscle cars bt i like that new dodge challenger, looks like the old one

@OneBadSuperbird the thumbs up to the agressive answers to my comment about "today muscle cars are better in all ways" is only because there are a lot of nostalgic people here.
the modern muscle cars are faster, has better performance, are safer..... this is only history. and the fans of classic cars who hate the modern cars....well: they are nostalgic people who couldn`t see the reality like it is...
fuzter2007 1 year ago
name one muscle car from today thats better - all the new stuff is computerised crap. the only halfway decent looking cars today are retro copies of 70's cars. give me original 700's stuff anyday. its worth more,. too.
xbfalcon351coupe 2 years ago
today muscle car has a lot of computerised features.....but why electronic is worst than mechanics? today cars has alluminum engines, more hp, better mileage, more confortable, and of course has a superb handling and breaking. this superbee is nice to show, to ride on weekends, but not for daily use, and not for track use.
fuzter2007 2 years ago
I disagree - my car is a 351 Falcon coupe built in 1973 and its my only car - gets used everyday for shopping, the lot. As for modern cars, if the computer dies, you're stranded - you can't fix them by the side of the road - in Australia, where I live, if you're in the middle of nowhere that can literally kill you. Tourists have died in the outback here on more than one occasion cos their hire car died and they couldn't fix it themselves.. oh, and most new cars are heavier and uglier too....
xbfalcon351coupe 2 years ago
i disagree. old car, without electronics, have much more posibbilities of failures, because carb and traditional ignition are less reliable.
you could use everyday your falcon, nice car... but why to live like 1973, if you live in 2010?
still better: if you have a buggy with two horses, and you have water and grass with you, like in 1780, you could travel all around australia with less trouble of any mechanics device!
fuzter2007 2 years ago
Not true. There is LESS that can go wrong because there is less TO go wrong..if you have 2 basic devices compared to dozens of very complex devices , the chances of failure will be less. Besides, if carbys and points do go wrong you can fix them by the side of the road with a screwdriver ( i should admit though that I have converted my points to electronic...)
xbfalcon351coupe 2 years ago
@fuzter2007 no they dont what are you an idiot
robthatguyx 1 year ago
people died in the middle of nowhere because the modern cars? well... i disagree, because it sounds very extreme ( no cell phones? nobody use this routes, to help? etc..) but:
you said you can fix an old car... but only if you know how to fix a car!! how many users are mechanics?
most of the users have no-idea how to fix a car, for they a died computer or accel-wire broken, it´s the same: the car is stopped.
you don´t need to know mechanics for drive safely

@fuzter2007 are you retarded?
suprbird 1 year ago
@fuzter2007 ohh contrare the engine were bigger back then....and were allowed to go extremely fast speeds....in 1970 NASCAR put an end to those kind of cars because of this specific car....the 70 superbird was so fast, and put the bar up higher, so NASCAR told everyone there was a specified engine, body etc. Besides if you gave the engine the superbird had the buffs of todays it would be accelerating much faster and maybe even a higher top end speed.
Captain25011 1 year ago
@fuzter2007 no there was no computers back then the engine got to be an engine in those days and werent told how to be an engine and also i dont think they ever made a car faster than the superbird it topped out at like 240 mph

@americanman911 This is the most retarded comment I read in a while. Before you start saying stuff try checking your facts first
jime19911 1 year ago
@fuzter2007 Oh yeah your new 6 cylinder cars with touchscreen and bluetooth are way better than cars that got kicked out of nascar for being too fast, back then you could get a car with 500 hp stock and do 9 sec. Funny how the Bugatti Veyron can only do 10.1 with 16 cylinders and 4 turbos. Cars nowadays suck ass
chevyman5436 1 year ago 3
@chevyman5436 the day when an old car could reach the end-speed of Bugatty Veyron, let`s talk... (in a car you could drive everyday...)
today cars are much better 70s cars..
it`s logical... or do you think engineers today didn`t know the ideas of that era?

This was shot in 1983. We were just kids with old musclecars. The "Dukes Of Hazzard" was in it's heyday. We were having fun with a new video camera (hardly anyone had one back then) and we were just out screwing around. A lot of people forget there was once a time when these were just cars with big engines that hauled ass.
OneBadSuperbird 2 years ago
Ah yes looking at the video again i can see all the other cars are from around the 80s. How big was your video camera, did it take 2 guys to carry it ? he-he
The cars we had back then were pathetic as i live in the uk. Thats why i drive muscle cars now............Good Luck man !
cudaneil1 2 years ago
LOL sometimes it did take two people to carry the camera! It was a Panasonic light commercial unit which was a shoulder-mount camera with a separate portable VHS deck connected with like an eight foot cord. What a pain that was! Because of having that old honker of a camera though, we're able to post these cool old videos to YouTube!

My Bad. Video from 1983? That explains the bad hair. Still, painful to watch though. Wonder if this car survived its owner?
JRaptor70 2 years ago
Survived it's owner? Are you kidding me? This is how these cars were driven. A good many of them were driven a LOT harder than this one. This car not only survives but is currently undergoing a rotisserie restoration in Texas. These cars weren't always show poodle trailer queens.
OneBadSuperbird 2 years ago
Hmmm, Interesting. What a shame you have access to such a nice car (assuming it's a real superbird and not a clone). Repeatedly putting the car (and yourself) in harms way with sideways drifts in traffic is just painful to watch. Did your Dad find out you took his car out for a Joy Ride yet?
JRaptor70 2 years ago
Comgratulations! You just won our YouTube Moron Of The Month Award! Get off your high horse and get in the real world buddy. I don't know what planet you're from but these cars were meant to be driven hard. Yes, it is an orginal 440 Six Barrel automatic Superbird. The owner sold the car in 1985. I still have all three of my winged cars and yes, they all get driven hard. I guess people like you will never know the fun of putting a musclecar through it's paces. Drive it like ya stole it.
OneBadSuperbird 2 years ago
JRaptor70 2 years ago
No worries, we take our winged cars seriously here. So when someone makes a crack about pampering these things, they get the hammer dropped on em. The green car is a 440 Six Barrel column automatic bench seat car.
OneBadSuperbird 2 years ago
Understood. My High Horse has been sent to pasture.
JRaptor70 2 years ago
It's all good. One of the reasons I get so defensive is because I've owned my white Superbird for 29 years and when I think back on all the fun I've had with that car, all the places it's been, all the drag races it's run, all the laps out on the high banks at the various wing car meets, all the late night street races, all the cruising on Woodward, Telegraph and Gratiot and just all the other cool stuff the car has done over the years, it's memories that last a lifetime.

If you think Superbirds are ugly weird cars, then why are you watching Superbird video clips??
boisblanc1954 2 years ago
Some old classic american cars are quite cool.. but this is american car design at its ugliest.. What was ever the point in this.. A wing on the back of a car is to help it corner at high speed. In a straight line it will LIMIT speed and just be in the way. This car corners like a shrimp vessel anyway because its got leaf suspension from the old testament and a cast iron frame softer than a 4 post bed. Alot of weird stuff was made back then and this is one of those weird things.
Janusha 2 years ago
This comment shows ignorance and stupidity at it's finest. Obviously, you have absolutely no clue about history, NASCAR homologation and aerodynamics. The nose, wing, rear window plug, A-pillar deflectors and fender scoops are ALL there for a reason. Maybe it's time you did some research before you go running your fingers on the keyboard. Congratulations! You won the Internet Moron Of The Month Award!!!
OneBadSuperbird 2 years ago
Dude my brother and father are very into these cars and own several... So I know my bit. They didnt really have windtunnels did they.. and the budgets for research was.. about zero in the era wehn this car was developed. I know its american and therefore simply must be the best thing in the universe but.. its been a few decades now. Let it go. The king is gone.
Janusha 2 years ago
LOL grasshopper, I suggest you do some research & brush up on your automotive history. The Superbirds and Daytonas were 100% developed in wind tunnels and Chrysler dumped huge money into these projects. "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" was the way it was. Oh, and what does a few decades have to do with anything? An original race Daytona or Superbird with chassis and engine updates could easily run 240 MPH laps at Talladega. Time to get off whatever high horse you're on & learn some respect.
OneBadSuperbird 2 years ago

OneBadSuperbird 2 years ago

Hey I hate to burst your little bubble there but Dodge referred to their three two barrel set up as "Six Pack" while Plymouth referred to it as "Six Barrel". Looks like it might could be time to brush up on your Mopar trivia before opening your ,outh and inserting your foot.
OneBadSuperbird 2 years ago
wasn't plymouth cars with the six barrel set up marked as "440+6"? i've never heard it referred to as any thing but a six pack (broadly describing both dodge and plymouth lines) or "four forty plus six". it's true that the technical term for the plymouth division was the "six barrel" moniker, but i think you can agree the lame mans term for any morpar 6 barrel set up is universally "Six pack", correct or not. i think your just splitting hairs to wax knowledge on another car guy.
keewatin427 2 years ago

Sure don't make trannies like they used to.
donlugohs 2 years ago
Awesome video! It's so rare to see one of these cars, let alone see them being driven as they were meant to be driven. And LOL at a 96 Z28 being worth anything at all in 30 years. What made these cars special, the 96 Z certainly lacks. Just about any late model car lacks, in fact.
Daytona1600 2 years ago
I agree with you except for one thing. Back in 1981 when I got my first Superbird, I distinctly remember the old-timer collectors of '30's-'50's cars telling me that cars like my Superbird would never be worth anything because they lacked what the "classics" had. Cool cars appeal to the generation that grew up with them. In 30 years when the folks that love Superbirds and others like it are all old-timers, today's generation will be clamoring for the hot cars of today that have survived.
OneBadSuperbird 2 years ago
in 1983 this was just 'another old car'. Kinda like a 1996 Camaro z28. Give it 30 years, and it'll be a museum piece if it's mint.
ChevelleSSLS6 3 years ago 2
96 Z? never.......
jmood162 3 years ago
30 years huh? well i just checked ebay and the most a mint 1979 camaro will go for is like $15000. i really don't ever see a 96 worth much at all in 30 years. maybe in japan where that body style is popular.. i could be wrong, but i dont see any car from the 90's other than some firehawk's, WS6's (maybe an SS) or the ZR1 worth much.
keewatin427 2 years ago
In the early nineties you could only get $20,000 for a totally restored 6 barrel 69 roadrunner... that's what, $100,000 today? Not sure anymore, I don't pay attention or care any more... but you could get a completely restored Hemi for $25-30k max in the early nineties, now multiply that by 4-5. I'd say the Trans Ams have a better shot than the Camaros, because they have the cool graphics. Also, 49-52beetles go for $50k now. I'm betting 60's muscle has hit it's peak compared to other old cars.
