@JasonParkSABIAN Really? The Rev was a mediocre metal drummer. Yes, it sucks that he's dead but it's been 3 years now and I'm still seeing these comments about how he was some drumming genius. Like I said, it sucks that the guy is dead but I don't really think it's the best way to honor him by posting spam comments on videos of a company he endorsed.
@ab4foot11 I mean to say run of the mill and average. He was a great drummer but not a god of the kit like many of his fans claim. I mean guys like Derek Roddy, George Kollias, Gene Hoglan, Paul Mazurkiewicz and Kai Hahto are truly revolutionary drummers who brought new elements into the drumming world. Especially in metal drumming. Just my opinion on the entire thing.
@drumsistkrieg1349 in technicality he is not even nearly as good as George Kollias but I mean just keep in mind, his drumming was always pretty much perfect in every song they did. If you start doing blast beat as like intense as Derek Roddy on a song like seize the say or something, it's gonna sound really bad. Honestly I feel like the Rev could have played much more technically, but A7X's music just didn't really call for it.
@ab4foot11 Yeah, that's how I kind of feel about him. Still, all of these comments are just by people who need to realize that he wasn't some drum wizard. He was a good drummer and fit his band well.
@drumsistkrieg1349 Yeah, but on the other hand he could like compose whole songs by himself and they'd end up being like good enough to use. In my opinion the Rev was like a musical genius... but a GOOD (not phenominal) and fitting drummer
@ab4foot11 True, he was a good guitarist. I guess that's a good trait to have. Being able to compose music even if you're a drummer. Hell, Geroeg kollias has his own album coming out soon. All music he wrote.
@ab4foot11 Yup, he's releasing a solo album later this year or early next year. It's called Aeons of Burning Galaxies. check it out, there are a few videos of it posted on here.
Well now i have my dream cymbal bag figured out 14" AAx X-Celerator Hi-Hats;16 &18" HHX Evolution Crashes; 17" AAX Xplosion Fast Crash; 18" HHX Evolution Ozone Crash; 17" HHx Evolution Efeks Crash: 16" HHX Prototype Rocktagon. Now once I get 2 grand I'm going cymbal shopping BET.
@kyuubimaster1 AAX- X-Celerator would me my suggestion out of these two you said but I think you should try 14''HHX Groove Hats too they are even better :D
@kyuubimaster1 I play rock/metal as well so I think 14'' HHX Groove hats will give you the sound you need for the genre you play... but 14'' AAX-celerator hats are also very good for rock/metal because Chad Smith and The Rev used these hats for their recordings :) the best thing to do is you should try these two hi-hats in a local music store that sells them :)
@kyuubimaster1 because chops wise and creativity wise, hes very mediocre. hes never done anything impressive, all of his patterns beats and fills are very bare bones basic and i can honestly say iI, as well as a few other of my drummer buddys, are technically and creatively better than him..i understand if you like him and im not saying you shouldnt, but hes overrated and mediocre in my opinion
@pifa4life I respect your opinion, but you have to remember that he was quite young. In interviews M. Shadows has said that Jimmy never cared for the more technical side of drums. I'm sure that if he got older his style would add more grooves and chops. Also through out the albums, his drumming improves more and more, which is why he won the award for best drummer in 2010, because a lot of people think that he was a great drummer and he was.
I have to disagree about the fills, a lot of them especially in the new album and even in general are very creative and impressive. Even though Mike Portnoy recorded their latest album, he was still playing what Jimmy had demoed. Also if you think your more creative than him that's fine, but you have to remember that he could have added more chops and etc. if he wanted to. He never showed everything he had. We don't know what else he had hiding. He could of had more skills than what we know of.
@pifa4life Yea lol but remember that he couldn't add too much to a song otherwise it wouldn't sound right, know what I mean? Plus when the band came up with songs, he had to play to fit the song, when he wrote songs they had to be on the same level as the others and not be too crazy, but if you take a look at Crossroads, he actually shows off more than in others (:
@kyuubimaster1 i disagree, i think there was alot of room within the context of avenged sevenfold for some chops..now im always the first to say dont overplay, but i truly believe he didnt over play because he couldnt. His skill set was not developed to an extraordinary level. But you know, i dont have anything against him, its his fans i dont like, most of them are ignorant and fans of a7x..and not necessarily drums themselves, but still they feel like they have expertise in the area
@pifa4life Well I respect you opinion, but I don't consider myself an ignorant fan. I am a drummer as well so I'm not trying say anything I don't know. Also I'm assuming that you are older than Jimmy so I understand that you can point out some flaws in his drumming.
@kyuubimaster1 i appreciate you being so civil.i was kinda being a dick. But yeah whatever im a huge fan of chris adler and god knows hes not the most technically proficient so to each his own
@pifa4life Its cool bro you were just stating your opinion, nothing wrong with that, and yea Chris Adler is a fucking machine lol. I'm not the kind of person who points out a drummer's flaws, I just focus on their great playing (:
@Stoukdrums well i play drumms for almost a year and i don t have many xperience about cymbals but when i read at sabian.com rev and cahd use these i told omg this is my new long life hi hat^^
@metaldrummer47 portnoy actually uses the AAX Stage Hats but ya these can be used for any style of music. u didnt hear the click but compared to other high hats click, its really loud. good for jazz, blues, funk, rock and metal.
