  • No not the mafia. For the Sicilians he was a freedom fighter for independent Sicily, The Italian government considered him a bandit. Italy is just another in a long line of occupiers, Italy is not forever. The Movement For Independent Sicily was started in 1943. In 2006 it is now recognized as a legitamate political movement and party. Suggested reading: the book by Guilano's sister, Marianna Guilanao - The True Story Of Salvatore Guilano. Also read on him on wikipedia page under his name.

  • I read Mario Puzo's The Sicilian. Does that count? It's sort of a work of fiction, but some parts are true. It was because of that book that I got interested in this in the first place.

  • No it was nearly all fiction. The grain wasn't stolen. He as shot by the carbineri... Just to name a few.

  • What grain?

  • The grain he purchaed on the black market during the rationing after WW2. Google and read the wikipedia page.

  • Best book I ever read. Giuliano is a legend.

  • non si doveva uccidere

  • Oh stop yer shouting will ya!!!!!!

  • why is this man shouting?

  • Because the cops lied. They never killed him near Trapani, he was set up by his friend Gaspar Piccotti near Monreale. But he's compaing some mafia thug to a freedom fighter so he's full of shit too.

  • Was Guiliano in the mafia? Wasn't he a bandit?
