GnR's did truely re-invent the use of piano in rock and I think this is why Use Your Illusion II was such a classic album. Locomotive, Breakdown, Pretty Tied Up, Estranged. Its gotta make you wonder which direction the band would have gone if the original line up were still together.

Axl is #2 on my all time list of lyrical genius'. #1 has to go to Bob Dylan but he is impossible to top!!! If you like Axl Lyrics check out the song Coma on UYI 1. Axl labels it as his most emotionally draining song. All the really great tunes by GNR are written by AXL, but the AXL doesnt realize is that his only attribute is providing the lyrics, Slash wrote the music and its just not the same without him...

Well, actually Stradlin,Slash,Rose,& McKagan all wrote music to the GNR material.Axl did not write all the lyrics to the GNR songs.Some songs were written by Rose/Slash, or Slash/Stradlin, or just Rose, or just Stradlin, or Rose/Slash/McKagan, etc, etc!Axl wrote some good lyrics but to call him the 2nd greatest lyric writer ever is a biiiigggggg stretch, but I guess you have your opinion-

I know Izzy Duff n Slash took part in writing some of the lyrics but I was talking about the songs Axl wrote solo, like Coma, November Rain, Dead Horse, Breakdown, Shotgun Blues and Estranged. These are the songs that reveal Axls true talent for lyrics. Usually when the song credits said Rose/Slash, it meant Axl did lyrics and Slash supplied music, usually, not always. Im also curious to know who your top 3 lyric writers would be.
