Hmmmmm!? 7 dislikes for this video. What!? Must be some people out there who don't like the ocean...seabirds....or maybe they are just afraid of anything relaxing. Even though I am 90 mins from the Pacific Coast, I cannot just up and go when i sure could use these sights and sounds. Thanks again for producing such a high quality and peacefull capture of the ocean MOST of us love! Next time I go to the coast I will bring back some sea water to mist in the air while I watch this!

Thanks for you awesome videos!!!! I created a pair of goggles that work with an ipod(for hands free viewing when laying or sitting down). It turns my ipod touch into a personal theater. NOWHERE have I found better vids to watch on it than yours. last night I thought 'Wonder if Ytube has any good surf sound vids?' to help me relax. hooked up the goggles to the ipod, laid down and searched. There you were. SO relaxing! I watched about 10 of your vids!!! Subbed and 5 stars. vid of goggles soon.

@mythtree i know what you mean! i grew up in Tucson and Tempe Arizona!!! I have lived in Portland Oregon now for a number of years and the ocean is only 90 mins away. Have spend a lot of time there. But this video is a wonderful second to that, at night when I need a push to relax and sleep. Good stuff indeed. I watch it on my Ipod Goggles that i came up with and it is even better. I submitted a video response about them but I do not know if jcmegabyte will approve it.

Wow, great video and the sound is superb, really helps me relax after a long day at the office after my boss makes sexual comments towards me and my coworkers call me "Jude the falopian tube". Yeah, this really helps me unwind after i come home from having people throw balls of paper at me at the office that read "jude, you need to shave ur mustache".. @rollinghills22 buy one of those little keychain cameras off of ebay($13.00) and record your boss and coworkers doing this. Download it to your computer for safe keeping. Then, post the video on youtube(public or private...is your call). Then inform your boss that if it does not stop immediately you will a.) take him to court and happily spend his money. b.) He will have to explain to all the people that call(as your video description includes the # ) WHY he does/allows it. OWN him.

I haven't yet released a CD/DVD with my ocean sound/video recordings yet, but it's in the works ! In the meantime, the easiest thing to do is download this video from YouTube, "rip" the soundtrack, loop it a bunch of times, and then burn it it to CD.

This place is Malibu Lagoon on the California coast, just northwest of Los Angeles. It's a popular public beach but in winter or at dusk you can sometimes have the whole place to yourself :-)

Yes indeed, these scenes have been around since long before us. Even the earliest mammals, dinosaurs, and the stranger creatures that came before them were privileged with pristine beaches and crashing waves, although I doubt any of them were able to enjoy it like us! How do you keep the wind noise out of the mic?

That is one of the trickiest parts of recording outdoor sounds. I was fortunate that there wasn't much wind on this particular evening, but if you listen very closely you can still hear a few wind rumbles here and there. I also use pressure zone mics, which are less sensitive to wind than regular mics with windscreens, so that helps some too. The recording equipment I use allows me to listen on headphones so I can place the mics in the best position for least wind noise. :-)

Are you recording sound with the built in microphone?

By the way, could you tell me the model ofyour camera? :)

I recorded all the audio separately, using a Sony MiniDisc recorder and two PZM (Pressure Zone) Mics on a custom (home made) wide field stereo stand. The camera built-in mics tend to produce a more "canned", narrow field stereo.

The video was whot with a Canon S5-IS digital still camera (in video mode), and then scaled-up to 720p HD. I plan to make more like this, using a Canon HF100 (full 1080p) with the same separate high-quality audio recording method. Thanks for watching! :-)

There are definitely some rocky coastlines here, but mainly along the northern Pacific US coast. Down here in southern CA many of the beaches are fairly flat and sandy, but the water is pretty cold, too! No gulfstream for us! XD

This was shot at Malibu Lagoon in Malibu, CA. It's a popular beach by day but in the evening it clears out nicely (especially when it's cool/cloudy) so at times you can have most of the beach to yourself (except for the Seagulls, of course!) :-)

I love the sea, and the sounds - no better place to wander when wanting to think quietly... Beautiful. I spent the best years of being a teenager right next to a beach in Penzance, Cornwall. Sadly, I live a long way a way now.

Another incredible moment for me was Aug 1999, Eclipse of the Sun, a cloudy day in Mousehole - nr Penzance, but it still went dark, flashlights could be seen across the bay and the seagulls all flew out and cried like it was dawn again - awe inspiring moment.
