Mice from around the planet are singing for many centuries without Japanese Scientists. So this is not Japanese invention is God creation, God created all living creatures with nice voice such as fish birds, insects, mice, whales, even human can sing.
Uuuuuhhh, I've had pets that sounded like that before. Not that constant or scared sounding, but when they did squeak, it sounded like that. That's just how "rodents" sound.

Those calls are of an animal in distress. I cant believe that an animal could be created in this way at the amusement of others. What is there to gain from it and why would you want to breed an animal to sound like a bird. Their excuses are lame. If, as human beings we are allowed to continue to tamper with nature then nature will tamper with us.
@MartinTjen It wasn't intentional - they altered the DNA so that it would produce mistakes more easily (i.e. evolve faster, in a more varied way), and these mice were one of the results! Completely bizzarre and unexpected, but a useful find nonetheless.
I don't get why this is so interesting. I've had mice for the past five years and all of them made this noise. There were days I'd wake up and think there were birds outside, but it was just my two mice screaming at each other in the middle of the night.
@Alyzuh This is of scientific interest because the "chirping" was created at the level of DNA; it wasn't explained at all in the video but scientists manipulated the DNA so mutations would be created more often... this is one of the many results from the ongoing experiments.
Granted, I don't KNOW 1st hand, as I did not witness the act, but if they harvested DNA like they would any other organism, its pretty much a given that there was no undue stress or burden on the organism. Have you ever died from having blood drawn? or a saliva swab? did you die, or suffer hospitalization when you got a flu shot? its akin to those processes
@TheIloveGraffiti they altered the DNA. no matter how you look at it, DNA altering at this level only works when the mice are of a few cells big. meaning, there's no way the mice felt pain. If you're going be a douche about your ideals, at least research a bit
@TheSleepChamber animal cruelty is taking a living creature and subjecting to and activity that would strain or traumatize the organism either emotionally or physically. What the scientists have done is alter their DNA to me more prone to mutation(i really doubt the mice feel the altering of their DNA. Plus, the DNA changes don't go in effect until they are activated in the offspring, when they start to copy and build a new temporal being) Super gluing eye lids, and cutting of limbs is cruelty.
He's so cute! They should breed these little guys and sell them as pets, I'd buy one...I would name him Cheeper and we would solve mysteries and get mad biddies and smoke doobies all day long...what was I on about?
@GrandLine1997 There's no guarantee that its offsprings will also tweet like a bird, because the scientists have genetically modified the rats to be prone to mutations.
There's too many people on this planet that is true, but controlling birthrates or even testing people's genetic health before allowing them to breed would be the way to go, not fucking slaughtering them,
@SurvivorGuy23 why? there are too many humans on earth as it is. Id rather have science find diseases that target undesirable populations rather than cure diseases.
@jesskazen I love how folks like you jump the gun and decide that a certain group is undesirable. Why don't you do everyone a favor, take all the nihilist and fatalists with and drink some delicious cyanide laced kool-aid.
@jesskazen That's sounds similar to nazi german ideas of exterminating certains populations. Well if you are serious, why don't you be one of the first to kill yourself to benefit this planet.
All mice vocalize a lot and male mice sing, but with normal mice this sound is so high pitched that the human ear cannot hear it. What I suspect is happening with this mouse is that it has an abnormally deep voice, well within the range of human hearing. So human ears can hear its mouse vocalizations. The question is do normal mice vocalize this much? I wonder if anyone has tried to figure out mouse language yet, they are much more intelligent than most people think................
@CreekValleyCritters well, i don't know about mice, but i used to hear my hamster squeak sometimes and it wasn't as often as that. during his time out of the cage, maybe one or two squeaks in one hour. he squeaked when he found food sometimes, or just when sitting and cleaning himself. it was very faint, and i was 16 at the time, now i'm 20, so i don't know if i could hear it now... (i don't have my hamster anymore, and it's a known thing that high-frequency hearing degrades quickly)
They that this will help find a cure for cancer. How is that gonna help find a cure for cancer? I think just did that because they could. What is the money for cancer research really going to?
@Stananzaman I meant this specific study, when I heard on the news they said this will help with finding a cure for cancer, I am trying to understand how.
@macjsus Okay, fair enough. Sorry. The report I read didn't say that this would cure cancer. They proposed that the mice could be used to learn about the genetic basis/evolution of language. The researches study DNA replication and mutation. According to the report they said that the mice were made by accident as part of a study called the "evolved mouse project" in which they crossed mice that were prone to mutation. They haven't published their resuts yet so I can't find out anything else
It sounds like they have managed to move the mouse language into the audible range of humans. Anyone who has listened to mice "talk" by shifting their ultrasonic based language into the human audible range will recognise this.
Cute - but Sungmee45 and chubbyxDD are right - humanity is playing with many things that we have no conception of, particularly what the ultimate outcomes, "knock-on" and "ripple" effects, or other unintended consequences will be.
