The Casinos did record the song in 1967 but there were earlier recordings of it. Johnny Nash recorded it several years before the Casinos. I think the author, John Loudermilk (sp?, also recorded it before the Casinos made it a pop hit in "67.

I fell in love with my girlfriend to that song in 1967. Bonnie, After 42 years I still love you. Too bad our paths still can't meet.

little of both. its easier just to look for chords/tabs, but if not i have no problem just listening. it just takes longer sometimes especially if they are using multiple guitars etc..
