Funny thing is that Ricco was whipped because he allowed soldier to take down his helmet in training field, even thru it didn't really matter because he was shot few millimeters above eye, so he would be dead anyway.

Only one who really screwed up was that girl which turned back to target shooting those lasers.

And they can't simply change whole basic training just because current enemy don't shoot.

They were also teached how to throw knife, fight hand to hand, and lot of more, human Vs human combat techniques, so useless in war with bugs.
