What bothers me about this play - and the film - is that Furtwangler helped over a hundred people either escape Europe or helped them survive the war. This is not mentioned. The other problem is that he was NEVER put on trial or abused by American authorities. The Patton-esque Col. Arnold figure seems to be a fiction created by a playwright who seems to hate Germans AND Americans.

Wish I could be in Dresden to see it.
Every time I see the film it makes my insides want to explode. Furtwangler's an idol of mine.
The musician, not the man. Aha! But is that an ethical distinction?
But to listen to the music...I mean, my God.
