The first song I ever heard from Hawkwind was Assault and Battery and Golden void put together. Ever since then I've been rockin to Hawkwind and still love it! These guys truly are masters of our universe
Anyone know of a better titel for Hawkwind and Sam Fox for a charity record to benefit the homeless? Yes? Tell us. No? Then shut up. Or donate your salary to the homeless yourself.
Obviously, it isn't Mick but it is very Hawkwind, Passable, listenable. Good for a change. Don't be hatin just because something is different from what you're used to. If it was an instrumental errbody would be 'oh, cool, a hawkwind instrumental!'
@quarkyboy Yeah, I've had this version on a cd since the mid 90s. It's very lacklustre and insipid, isn't it?. They shouldn't have even attempted it in 1991 in the first place even if it was for the homeless charity at the time.
I mean, really, if this had been the original, nobody would ever have noticed it.
This sounds more like a weekend dj-band kinda music for people who have been sentenced to life imprisonment and this band wants to make them suffer more.
I wish I hadn't come to this link. Going back to Keef, Mick and Charlie.
mediocre cover of a great song...ridiculously mundane and can't carry Mick and Keith's garbage bags. I'll take the real song every single time. yawn...
@slimmjimm72 A brilliant cover. Hawkwind at their rocknroll best. That doesn't mean the Stones are not good, of course they are, but I just love this version. Covers with their own bent can be good in their own way. Never knew what this song was about until Hawkwind covered it! The stones are legends and Hawkwind are too. Rotten once said, no Hawkwind, no Sex Pistols, so one could argue that the Hawks kept rock going just for that little bit longer.
I love this song, and I love Hawkwind, but I haveta say that I think the best version ever made was by Grand Funk Railroad off the "Survival" album. Man, that cut had balls.
@ozricstormbringer I didn't even realize the band was still together, until I checked online. I'll go see them if they ever make to Toronto. Why won't Conneticut let them play there?
I thought the song was about war not the homeless. There is no relationship. I'm not that deep. ;-0 It's just background music that i like, with my images.
when in 1977 at the Blackheath Concert Halls Hawkwind raised thousands of pounds for the homeless, and even released a charity single version of the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" with Samantha Fox guesting on vocals ( not backing vocals)
i love this cover more than the stones original. go on hawkwind. :)

Heard this version before I ever heard the original (yeah I'm young) and always preferred it. It's all pretty relative. Hawkwind rocks.

I love this and will listen to it often, when friends
visit me and when i enter different realms of
conciensness as we are able to albeit risking our
freedom thro a granny state that wants to enslave
us to its whims.Take any substance not just the

nice pictures but I fail to see the relationsship to the origin of the song:
aid of the homeless.
By the way this : Sam Fox on vocals
GEMP59 3 years ago
Sam Fox does BACKING vocals. Richard Chadwyck is on VOX- a rare thing. The relationship is in the title.. Gimme Shelter.
