Just finished the book last night.... I finally gathered enough courage for the ending. I love it! It's now taken up the title of my favorite book in my collection. Thanks Mickey and Legs for being so awesome-3
Joey and Dee Dee were the talents in the band......Johnny did something no one else could..or would his non guitarist stance...He was the quintesential punk guitarist...if you watched him play it was almost embarrasing...but he held his ground and he won
When I first saw the title at the official Joey Ramone site I thought...wow, some groupie wrote a book, lol. Far from it! Mickey's book is simply wonderful, I love it but can't quite bring myself to finish it cuz I know what's coming...Joey's death.
This is a wonderful story told from only the one person who keeps it real...his own brother. Mickey call him "my brother" throughout the entire book, it's told from the heart while still keeping it real. Thank you so very much for sharing.
There were thousands of gay men wearing bluejeans and motorcycle jackets in NYC before the Ramones. Punk fashion derives from the gay aesthetic of the 70s.
@punkbabydoll77 So do I, I had to hear it from all people, former musician turned Radio DJ Greg Khin the next morning and that idiot had to be so crass disrespectful and cracking jokes and on top of that pointing out his sole personal opinion that Joey was ugly and dumb. I know Khin did not like Ramones music and more resented they are more popular loved than his nowhere band. It was worse for me because I had no idea Joey had lymphoma Mickey's book is a very good celebration of Joey's life
The first time I saw the ramones I was wigged out how anyone could wear sneakers with a leather jacket...since I was from california I thought they were wanna be californians from NY.
long live the ramones...I saw them at least 5 times.
I knew both Joey and Mickey from my days hanging out in the boros and clubs of NYC. Mickey shows his true colors of envy and bitterness at not having made it while his "less deserving ,messed up brother" did. and trying to cover it up with concern and self lessness. Since The people who could dispute some of the details are no longer with us Mickey has the freedom to write history the way he wants it.Yes there were problems but aparently in Mickeys world love means trashing your family for a $
Did you read the book yet though? I thought Mickey's love for Joey was all over it (while making sure he made the case for his own legacy). That said, considering how upset Joey was about Mickey's contribution to "Please Kill Me", Joey probably wouldn't have been thrilled about this book.
What kind of name is 'Legs'?

Such a valuable document; honest, hard-bitten & heartfelt. The public readings, Q&As and signings were stellar.
