  • Here in Maine slugs are very busy on chanterelles.

  • I love your videos and the way you present the information...I just wish they were longer.

  • wait a second! i've found chanterelles in the berkeley hills which were all munched on. a couple months ago i even found several piles of chanterelles in an area and there was no sign of humans having been in that area except for me. they were small piles of 5- 10 mushrooms each. what could have made them? the only tracks i found were rodents - i assumed wood rats.

  • @ho2cultcha Cool, I don't know to what extent your are describing, but some animals will munch on anything, for sure. I've seen nibbles out of chanterelles here and there. And I often don't use enough ambiguous speech when just improving on the spot in my videos. You're seeing the only take, you know? There are exceptions to pretty much everything, but I don't know of any animal that utilizes them as a substantial food. What happens when wood rats gorge themselves on the mushrooms?

  • @ho2cultcha Slugs. In Washington the Banana slug will go to town on Chanties. They really seem to like whites, maybee because they are closer to the ground and more fragrant, only the slug knows. I've found large patches that have been nearly completely devoured by slugs, particularly when there is a drier couple of days.

  • @brushbeater2 the chanties were plucked and piled up in little mounds - in places where the overhead branches were very low. i'll go see if i can find them again and photograph them.
