Though they do piss off the whalers to a extreme degree, and what they do is illigal and could considered as piracy, I do agree that indiscriminate hunting of whales is wrong and will kill the species. Therefore at the very least the whaling ships should be controled more thoughly by international law. So that there wouldn't be need for vigilantes to cause uproars.

Then and only then will laws be changed. People have been blind to all this and that's how the japanese wanted to keep it. They're even fighting the wide spread release of "The Cove" in Japan. Violently, if they have to.

So, throwing chemicals at the whalers such as Butyric Acid to either cause severe eye injury or taint their cargo isn't violence? Throwing "slipperies" onto their decks isn't meant to cause people to slip, fall, & break bones or fall over board? And the intentional ramming of one's vessel into another. That doesn't sound violent to you? It sure does to me.
The intentional damaging of cargo is an act of piracy. But I would rather call them terrorist because they terrorize others.

fmscribs, the sea shepherds did not intentionally ram their boat into the yisshun maru #3. they were trying to prevent the boat from delivering a dead whale. all of a suden, the yisshun 3 turned right in front of the steve erwin, and because the steve erwin cannot turn quickly, it resulted in the ramming of ships. i'm not saying it's either ships' fault. the sea shepherds don't intend to hurt the whalers. the only reason they throw the acid ondeck is to deter the whalers from going ondeck.
