  • very 2001 a space odyssey at the end there.

  • Poor Thom. The guy looks so miserable that I just want to give him a hug and a cookie. And a towel.

It's nice to see him in the real video grinning his face off at finally having gotten it right :)

  • poor chap almost drowned there

  • That mustn't of been easy, but I lol'd when I read his lips at the end: "FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!" xD

  • "Let me out of here" o_e

  • @TheMooseOfMayhem I see what you did there

  • it would scare me to death too, i get very claustrohpobic. (excuse spelling)

  • When I first saw the video for "No Surprises" the two thoughts most prominent in my mind were:

1.) That's beautiful and amazing. Isn't life just like that sometimes? And it really matches the song.

2.) Thom Yorke must have really suffered to make that video. Turns out I was right about that...

  • what a handsome man

  • @ST0FB3RG - I think that's precisely WHY the album cane out as good as it did. ;)

  • There's a lot of sad irony in this considering the subject matter in No Surprises.

  • Scary XD

  • 1:07 reminds me of Saw V

  • Thom wasn't just under water...he was in helmet as well...try to do the same. I don't think it'll be very easy to hold the head into such conditions for a minute

  • its mysterious.......im 1 years old and i can hold my breath under water for a minute to the best of my ability (i got the idea from this video), but Thom cant hold his breath for up to...what is that...20 seconds...and hes a fully grown man...mysterious...i still feel sorry for him...for the fustration :(...at least he made it through...that shows bravery...courage :)

  • he did this when he smoked heavily... meaning he is a GOD for holding his breath like this

  • Very difficult for mr. Yorke. Poor sir. Specially his cussing in the last try recorded here :(

  • that was horrible to watch, especially the last take where he didn't last long enough... he was like "FUCK!" Poor Tom.

  • Talk about suffering for your craft!

  • ahahahhah 1:08

  • ESTO ES EL INFIERNO ACUATICO !!

  • GUYS WANT PROOF? Take a shower, point the water in your face and try to hold your breath. you wont last more than 20 seconds

  • i'm surprised he didn't actually drown -.o

  • no te cabrees tom

    k genio¡¡¡

  • Fun times!

oh and yeah it's easy to hold your breathe in air but with water everywhere it's a lot different.. and shit.. in a helmet as well..

  • @MalfunctionOnline apparently its ALOT harder when you have cameras on you and alot of people watching etc.

  • @GamerConor

    Sure, LIVE it is.

  • Actually,, it wasnt spead up (the filming that is)...

It took 15 takes to make this video,, ill in actual time, no speeding up. It took this many times, and as you can see - he got pretty pissed off along the way, as it took a long time to be able to hold his breath all the way through,,

A man who is patient enough to stick with it this long, obviously diserves to be recognised.

    RADIOHEAD(L)

  • greaaatt

  • why did they have to slow it down at the end?

  • @cristyxpanic They sped up the video for that section only. They slow it back down again so he can lip-sync the remainder of the song.

  • wow that was extreme...

  • At 1:08 I ROFLed so hard my ROFL ROFLed as well.

  • Its because they had to slow down the scene.

  • Oh my god....wow.

  • LOL! That's the word! XD

  • Now I know why he looks so triumphant in the actual video after the water drains.

  • so, it was true that he almost drown a couple of times making the video... cool footage.

  • Wow before XD!!! i don't forget this video

  • I couldn't help laughing at it, sorry! In the end he yells "fuck, fuck!", doesnt he?

The video is so damn good, though!

  • Ahaha, when I watched this the first I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to laugh or not. I mean, it is funny in some ways...

Except I didn't laugh. I watched this in the context of the documentary it came from, and I was just too saddened by what he was going through at this time in his life.

  • If you watched the finished video you'll notice hes smileing when the water finally comes out. Obviously hes glad he finally did it after all this.

  • That is my favourite moment of the video.

Until recently, I didn't realise the music had been speeded up during the totally-submerged portion -- I thought Thom Yorke had been given training by those "free diving" people!

  • sounds kinda cute sped up

  • i agree. god bless him.

  • Thom is VERY brave. He did this just to offer us a great video clip... thank you, man

  • is he hydrophobic or something?

  • Doubt it. I reckon most people would get the jitters in that thing.

  • @derris He did this job...mainly because of the money involved

  • @red33m23 For this too (everything is not just about money ^^

  • this should be edited into the other "perfect" edit...here there is emotion and movement..love it

  • this is a music video in itself

  • yo no tengo entrada!!!

ni siquiera para cancha en este momento

bien por tí compadre, que estés bien!

    suerte

  • is he getting realy pissed off at the end becouse he cant do it

  • Yep

  • Thom Yorke went ape shit the last 10 seconds.

  • LOL

  • i love radiohead and this is so FUNNY!!! LOL

  • yea it would be funny to if u were in that helmet with water almost drwoning urself :D that waould be halarious

  • at the end it looks like his head's gonna explode! XD

  • you can go to hell

  • sorry. english is not my first language

  • thats ok, that guys just stupid

  • what is your first language

  • siempre hay chilenos en todas partes...

  • of? looks fine to me

and it wouldnt be a capital on the O anyway so i don't know wtf your on about

good vid mate, language seems fine to me

and ludachris, if you wanna get nazi you probably should refrain from putting the comma at the end of word...

"The person who uploaded this video cannot spell the word "Of".

  • i've seen full blown english people who do the same,

who really cares, if you have enough time to sit criticizing other peoples spelling, go put your time to better use, like he said, not primary language,

if i was typing japanese and got it wrong, i know i'd prefer someone to just correct it for me nicley instead of being a cunt about it...

  • and on top of that its not like the english language is easy to spell correctly when we have 3 versions of there thier and they're... off and of is prenounced the same

+ millions of other stupid prenounciations which are just a headache

  • Actually they are all said differently, only very slightly!

Spelling is very important for meaning. If you listen to standard well spoken English you will pick it out.

    There is relaxed flat tone.

Their is shorter, with the i clear and rise and fall tone over the ei.

they're has more roll of the r sound and a hint of two syllables, because it is a compression of "they are".

Don't blame English because people don't speak properly and kept ignorant by being fed trash TV by Fabian scumbags.

  • @asukapyro pronounciations*

  • wow the last time we did it he looked pritty pissed off

  • I don't know whats so difficult. If you watch the end result, he only holds his breath through about 1:15... Its not that hard to do...

  • You try sticking your head in a bowl filled with water and try to sing a song at the end after holding your breath for a minute, then you can talk.

  • EXACTLY!!!!!!

  • f*** f*** f***!

  • lol, quote. as i noticed the second time i watched it.

  • lol. music videos are weird.

  • i feel so sorry for thom here. The OK computer era was difficult for him.

  • @wikum3 Why was it?

  • @Jcahalane He was going through a bad case of depression. It's incredible that the album turned out at great as it did.

  • its amazeing how long he holds his breath for in the real video

  • fairly sure its in slow motion in the vid, filmed in double speed

  • Hence why this video/clip is shown...and the point it makes.

  • i rememebr seeing that last bit where he starts spasming in anger with a slew of other dvd clips and it's haunting. this is so incredibly sad to watch, especially when the music speeds up, it sound like a water boiler running and whistling an steaming as the glass fogs and he starts getting more and more pissed off.

  • without this video we would not have the music video of no surprises it shows us how difficult it was lol

  • its kind of sad how frustrated he gets.

    =[

  • haha, the song sounds so happy when it's sped up.

I Love T.Y.

  • poor thom.

  • Thats hot!

  • you better keep your stinky mouth shut. ^^

  • O.O

    gran trabajo ;D

  • Damn,my lungs hurt after watchin that. the video still is awsome. thoms so hot.lol

  • Poor Thom.... that was hard...

  • Jesus Christ

  • Poor Thom, he almost died making the video of Karma Police because of, "A Handshake of carbon monoxide" and for the music video of No Surprises he's about to drown. Take it easy Thom! We don't want to lose you. You're to much of a creative genius.

  • Oh god. That would piss me off.

  • Haha, this explains his satisfied smile at the end of the finished video.

  • Why does he get so pissed?

  • Because he's failing to complete his goal. Holding his breathe for a sustained ammount of time, i think Thom is a perfectionist in a way... i don't think he likes to fail.

  • duhhh

  • F&#&, F%!@, F@%$ LOL xD

  • wow, really shows thom is very passionate about everything for radiohead...very emotional...wow...

  • Good God, he's even sexy when angry!

Makes me want a chance at surprising him...

  • haha dude hes wacked out.. thats why hes so good thou

  • lol when he flipped out was so cool lol

  • lol

  • haha heh good job of Thom, such a hard i think to do this, great. and etnamatsu, who cares about illigal it or another, thanks for posting this.

  • are you yoda?

  • haha my english, just only now noticed it.

  • I couldn't help but laugh when Thom flipped out at the end.

  • :O

    holy shit xD

    cool man :P

  • AHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!! HJAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA hes gonna kill someone

  • the end creeps me out

  • loool

  • the worst thing about this is you would have to start the whole song over because it is one continuous clip.

  • Ha ha. So much work for such a simple video.

  • its a good video though

  • fark...

  • lol it looks funny when he gets upset! :) (love Thom though)

  • yer. the video was'nt sped up. it's jut the music for this

  • the music is sped up as the footage is sped up as well. They filmed him for like 30 seconds or something, and slowed it down so it was longer.

  • The clip was filmed at normal speed, and in 1 take, of course.

This video is just sped up for not having to spend all day watching the many attempts.

  • Actually, no. It was shot all in one take, and the beginning of the video I am sure was lip-synched at normal speed, but for Thom's safety his helmet was filled quickly and that part was later slowed down.

  • And for proof of this it was said in some book, but see for yourself. The music is played very quickly, however the crew in the reflection of the helmet is moving at normal speed.

  • That is right, I don't know why somebody put a thumbs down. I brought it back up, hehe.

  • no buddy, he really did hold his breath that long (it was only a bit longer than a minute)

  • No. He did not. Think about if you are making a film. Wouldn't you want your star actor to be safe at all costs? So why not make a stunt where your star actor is encased in a water filled helmet is as safe as possible? It does not matter if it was only a bit longer than a minute. Sure, you can sit in front of your computer and hold your breath for that long extremely easy, but it is WAY different psychologically to wear a helmet that is totally submerged in water for more than a minute.

  • "For Yorke's safety, the video was filmed at high-speed and played back in slow-motion." - from Wikipedia article, which used the book Exit Music: The Radiohead Story as the reference.

  • "There's a great scene in Gee's 1998 documentary on the band, "Meeting People is Easy," in which a group of British TV journalists are discussing how awful "No Surprises" is while watching Gee's video for it. In this work within a work, they naïvely wonder about how Yorke can hold his breath so long as Gee humorously intercuts footage from the video's shoot, revealing the camera tricks that should have been apparent to them." - Directors of Radiohead article on Zimbio.

  • @jd42305 You're right, as this video shows. Maybe holding your breath for this duration is possible, but asking the man to do it continuously would just be murder on his lungs. There's a lot of theories going on (of course) about how Thom nearly died etcetera, but judging from this footage he was just (understandably) frustrated with the whole process. And who could blame him, with this video captured in one single shot?

  • I tried to hold my breath back when watching the video - and I actually did it :)

  • what a trooper

    suffering for his art lol

  • Poor Thom :(

  • (nod)poor him...

    really... :(

that seems really hard to do it...

  • not poor thom, he did it, didn't he?

  • what was he thinking about?...

  • i think its sped up so that it can actually be filmed, if it was as slow as the music vid thom yorke would probably die

  • nope. this is on the meeting people is easy DVD. he had to try many times to get it

  • No, you are wrong. He was only submerged for a short amount of time. They slowed it down. And don't use the "you can easily old your breath for that long" argument that some jackass used on me when he called me an idiot (not calling you a jackass), because holding your breath is COMPLETELY different from your head being submerged under water. There's a reason people trapped in cars under water drown in under a minute.

  • how come the music is all fast and stuff?

  • Cause he couldn't hold his breath that long. So they sped it up.

  • I've seen this before. But after watching him fail many times, I finally understand the 'I fucking did it' smile in the final version.

  • lol :P

  • haha yea me too

  • ouh la pauvre thom je le plein
