Yes! Sorry, I'm getting my wires crossed. I meant to say that I have this track on a vinyl LP! It's a French "Disques Vogue" ten-inch LP (numberLD066) that I bought in Manchester, UK, in March 1967. It also has tracks by Meade Lux Lewis and Blind John Davis.
You can get it from IMP (International Music Publications), Southend Road, Woodford Green, Essex, IG8 8HN, England. Order No. 17105.
Called: JAZZ Piano, Volume 6, Transcribed by Brian Priestley, Volume 6, ISBN 0863597386. Volume 6 contains also other great tunes such as 'Cying in my sleep', 'See See Rider', 'Blue Monk' and others.
All transcriptions, also in the other Volumes, are excellent - very detailed and as close to the original recordings as it gets.
@zzzhacker Hi re suitcase blues sheet music. If you can help me out on this one I will be much obliged . Could you send me a website link where I might find this music. I looked up International Music Publications on the web but with no luck,. thanks
Great to here my favourite piece of piano music played so well (and like always amazing in the left hand which is the true hard part of this piece i think)
Hi again (i didn't realize I've been commenting on my brother account but anyway). I have the original recording of this song on my computer. Have you heard it because your sounds almost the exact same. Maybe ill post it.
According to the liner notes of texas piano on the document label piano he was actually 18, but still it's one of the best barrellhouse recordings ever.
Eeco, you have such a fine ear and playing talent to go with it. Good luck getting it together to make a CD. A mix of boogie classics & your own will be great! Keep looking for the right contacts to assist your progress in a career as a boogie and jazz pianist. We totally enjoy these video's, each and every one. Please try to get the camera held higher so we can see you hands. Thx.
Yeah, I really like to play this one over and over, it's one of my favorites. Easy going but still that swinging. Thanx for the ratings guys! I appreciate it :D Eeco
GOODNESS ME ! He is the Composer of Suitcase Blues !!!
I will try to tape it when back home . DO YOU KNOW the best of all the PIONNERS : JAMES " JIMMIE " BLYTHE ? If not you are MISSING something my friend !
Albert Ammons stayed very close to the original as a mark of respect to Hershal Thomas who died young like Pinetop Smith. (I've an idea he was also shot).
Have you ever heard Ammons 'Chicago on My Mind' the most beautiful piano blues ever played IMHO? You have the light touch to do it justice.
hey, thanks for mentioning Jimmy Blythe on Youtube! I play a couple of his great tunes which I might upload videos of to Youtube sometime! I can hear a bit of Blythe in Hersal's stuff too... remember that Jimmy was only about 23 when he made his first recordings, so I guess this stuff is really young people's music!
Can you feel it ? It's the blues man <3

The static begs the question...is that a perfect copy of a 1925 recording ? if so, my hat is off...
crifoter69 5 years ago
Bootiful! Yea - HERSAL THOMAS. Recorded 22nd Feb 1925 in Chicago, when he was 15! I've got it on MAGPIE PY4404, but it must be around elsewhere.

Hersal Thomas died on July 03 1926 at the age of 17 of food poisoning !
Ammons was very much inspired by Jimmy Blythe ( right hand glissandos and tremolos ).
