Actually, I understand perfectly that, ahem, certain people think the meanings of words should change to suit their needs, and start using it thus. One word in particular, "gay", which really just means "happy." But if I call someone gay, they just call me "a fascist whitey who's 'afraid of the same'".

you seem very confused. language is not static, but aquires it's meaning through the social fabric upon which it rests. if you're going to go back to the roots of words, you are not working within modern frameworks of language and hence of course the word homophobe would not make sense. i don't THINK the meanings of words should change, but the fact that they are used within social frameworks means that they are continually being constituted and reconstituted.
