  • Other perfect vocal of ALLAN CLARKE ! Awesome, so great voice! The voice of the Hollies! Love this song!

  • great song, reminds me of great times i had in my childhood

  • I think this is fabulous

  • sexy

  • well said alfman! i have all of allan clarkes' solo albums. some great ballads on them

  • Allan Clarke was the best POP singer of all times. He can sing all styles from Rock over Pop and specially Ballads. The most underated singer of all times.

  • I grew up in Manchester in the 60's, watching the Hollies many, many times.

This is the best song that I have ever heard them perform.

Although I admit that no-one sings it Like Emmylou, in it's own context, it is just as good. Just performed differently.

So, I say to you who are posting just to slag them down....You've heard it, you did'nt like it...just don't play it again. Simple!!!! Why be nasty about it?

  • 9 dislikes??????????Hope they don`t get early parole

  • Allan Clarke, Allan Clarke!

  • Not going to say which of the many emmylou versions or awesome covers of this song is my favorite. Just like to say I'm glad I found this, thanks for uploading!

  • I love this song, thank you, I've been after a copy of this for years.

  • Good version of a great song!!!

  • i liked alans look in the earlier years.

  • Love the Hollies, but nobody can sing this better than Scott Walker.

  • @mababaki Emmylou Harris can

  • Allan Clarke: the perm years.

  • I've only heard this by Emmylou Harris until now, but I like that the Hollies tackled it. Why shouldn't they try different styles and put their spin on it? I'm glad an oversight was corrected, and the Hollies finally got into the Rock Hall Of Fame. About time!

  • I've never really loved this production (too slick) but god knows this song was made for Allan's voice.

  • A good cover of a great song 'nuf said!!

  • awesome

    waldemar

  • Just Great

  • Hot stuff!

  • great song

  • Allan has got the pornstar look down perfectly here! Down to the 12 inch cock... probably.

  • @tcvicesquad lol no way! lol

  • Totally and utterly AWESOME........

  • AMAZING SONG AND BAND!!!

  • one of the top songs of the 20th century the Hollies with this wonderful song written by emilylou harris, it´s just an infinite beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • A hidden treasure...

  • They are really good. I've never heard this song by only Emmylou. THey each do a great version of the song.

  • Amazing that this didnt chart in the Uk.Good old Wogan at least let people hear this masterpiece on his show.I think this,Soldier's song and I'm Down are as good as anything the band ever recorded.

  • why does he look like jeremy clarkson?

  • prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...........ow...ow!

  • Allan is awesome....miss Nash,though........just cool is all!

  • Allan Clarke is one of the reasons the Hollies were superior to the Beatles. They had nobody that could match his voice.

  • Allan Clarke on vocals here btw

  • I know i was just stating that Tony is always so relaxed

  • Tony Hicks just seems so relaxed in everything he sings

  • can someone explain to me why the hollies are not in the rock and roll hall of fame?

  • @emonster2001

    They are! This spring!!! :o))

  • They will be ...this March.. go to the R&R Hall's web site and read on.

  • ALLAN sings with emotion, he lives the music

With his voice gives wonderful show of interpretation ..

    The unmatched ALLAN CLARKE !!!!!!!!

  • I think if the "person" does not like the music, not like the video, should not see, or give your opinion

Out of respect for the person who took the trouble to make the video.

In respect to fans of the singer or band.

For me who does not like Allan Clarke singing is deaf or have no ear for music.

    The word here is respect.

  • @veraluciasc Really? Which dictatorship do you live in? Because I live in The UK, and I'm free to give my opinion on anything that pleases me. Personally, I love The Hollies, but I'd be a fool if I said this was as good as Emmylou Harris's or Joan Baez's versions. I'd also be a fool if I said this was even one of The Hollies best efforts, because they've removed every ounce of emotion and poignance from the song and turned a paean to a deceased friend into a pop song.

  • @DaMuttzNutz I live under the dictatorship of respect, and it seems I'm not alone.

What, you think if I were to see video of Emmylou Harris and commented that I like the version that ALLAN CLARKE, with his wonderful voice, madethe music?

  • @veraluciasc I don't care what you think of Emmylou Harris's original version, but I would be happy to read and reply to your comments. I thought that was the point of YouTube, to share ideas?

  • @DaMuttzNutz Why aren't you commenting on Emmylou Harris' video? I don't like Britney Spears but that doesn't mean I seek out her videos and write negative comments there. I know that she has her fans who love her. Just as I love my football team even when they lose. So it doesn't matter if it is not their best song, or not a great cover. People will adore some band or singer no matter what, so don't intentionally upset these fans. They might be that stranger that smiled at you the other day.

  • @boogiefever1985 it's called an opinion. I have lots of them and I make them where I will. If any fans are upset by my honest criticism then I am truly sorry but they really need to address their emotional insecurities.

  • @DaMuttzNutz Nothing wrong with opinions. Sometimes I see people smoking in their cars with their children in the back seat. My opinion is that they are disgusting, evil bastards, but I don't open my window and yell it out to them. I am free to have the opinion, but I'm not free to tell my opinions to everyone if they are insults. Some people have racist or violent opinions, cannot walk around being racist or they'll be thrown in prison. An opinion is ok, but they can be disrespectful to others.

  • @boogiefever1985 well I don't have racist or violent opinions and I don't smoke. But this is youtube and it seems to have been made for people to share opinions, and I've shared mine. It's there for you to take or leave. Good day.

  • @veraluciasc Who doesn't like this kind of music is deaf or have no ear for music? You show your respect really well! What a hypocrisy! Everyone is free to say whatever he/she thinks, even if he/she doesn't like: I don't like this at all, to give an example, and I'm here only because my father does and he wanted to hear this music, but he can't use a computer... I'm not deaf at all, though.

  • @3F93 Bye then....Please just show your Dad how to enjoy his music on You Tube and off you go. Incidentally, Vera is also entitled to speak her mind, and her comment was in response to a rude rant a year ago.

  • Different treatments....this is a good performance by anyone's standards...I prefer Emmylou's too but this is not a bad version at all...

  • every one is entitled to their say...mine is this is a fantastic version by The Hollies...

  • ????????? MAD

  • 3:35 to 3:40 over and over and over again!

  • Hummm ....... understood....

  • Somehow I knew you would get it!!

  • You're a girl who knows it all... lol

  • AMEN!

  • Oh my God......... Haven't heard this for such a long time...had almost forgotten how amazing it is. Thanks so much for posting......what a classic....

  • The Hollies the best in the world

  • Thank you, Hollies.

  • wow did not know the hollies covered this 1975 signature song from Emmylou Harris...good job!

  • I've heard lots of versions of this song and I have to say that this is the best... Lots of great people have sung it but this is so powerful, smooth and emotional. (Emmylou, you wrote a great song...all songs from the heart should be like this one)

  • She did write it but hollies put more emotion into it she just stays in one key just a typical average hillbilly singer` but wrote a couple of gems tho `

  • @evilofisalm The great Emmylou is NOT 'just a hillbilly singer! She could not have put more emotion into it; it was written in memory of Gram Parsons.

Having said that, the Hollies version is great and was what introduced me to Emmylou, leading to a great journey of discovery. They should have done more of her wonderful material. They still could.

  • @Jackophil Try her song 'Strong Hand', written for Johnny Cash and June Carter. It would benefit from the Hollies' treatment.

  • @evilofisalm She wrote this song with Billy Danoff and she is far more than "average" in any musical genre. To refer to her as a hillbilly is to show your ignorance of her music, her life, and her abilities. Anyone who put the Hot Band together is not average. If Emmylou was a man with hte same talents, he'd be called a genius. What a putz.

  • @jac2623 and if Elvis had any brains (which I doubt) Elvis would realise that the REAL Elvis thought so much of her that he poached Glenn D Hardin, Jerry Scheff and the great James Burton from Emmylou for his band.

And as for the Hollies. .this is GREAT version & Allan should know that Roger Daltrey wants his jacket back hehehe

  • Alan was definitely working on his Daltrey looks:

    Curly hair - check.

    Buckskin jacket - check.

    Angry face - check.

He probably tried swirling the microphone during soundcheck too ;)

  • @DieselChief

Daltrey is not the first person to have curly hair,

wear a buckskin jacket or show facial expressions

    (or swing a microphone either)

    PLUS

The HOLLIES were signed and started making hit records

    2 years before Daltrey's band. . 1963 vs. 1965.

    I'm not saying, I'm just saying. (:

  • Then watch her version and let Hollie fans enjoy this one, okay?!

  • when i heard this song for the first time...a tear role down my face

  • Me too

  • BARBARA WHO?

  • Starland Vocal Band is the definitive version. Written by Bill Danoff and Emmylou Harris.

Can't find fault with this version, though.

  • Just a fantastastic rendition. A friggin' standout!

  • Hollies incredible!

    Allan Clarke unsurpassed, wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Believe it or not but the first time I ever heard this song it was performed by(seriously) The Starland Vocal Band. And it was very good. Too bad I cant find it anywhere

  • God!! that man has the moves!!!!

  • What a delight --- but that's too shallow a comment. I should say what a moving, thrilling experience to hear this. I know how much I love it when Emmy Lou sings it, but the Hollies have made it their own. Amazing voice and emotion. Wow! It's a tribute to a classic song that it keeps growing and inspiring fabulous interpretations.

  • Thank you so much Poopaloo55 for the invite as a friend...I really do appreciate it

  • My pleasure!!

Could anything be better than watching and listening to Allan? I mean...really?

  • See and hear Allan personally?

Ah what a dream! What wonderful dream!

  • I just find it so remarkable how sexy he is today, just like then!! I am so greatful to YouTube for allowing us to enjoy all these great videos and amazing music...and of course all the gorgeous pics of The Hollies!! thank you so much to all who contribute to the downloads.

  • Well said!!

  • Look in the dictionary for the word "sexy". It says: "Allan Clarke"!!!!

  • I did!.... And it does!.... Awesome!!!

  • I fully agree!!!!!!!

  • I keep coming back...this makes me weak at the knees every time...powerful stuff!!!!

  • Me too

  • Thanks for posting this version, however I much prefer the Walker Bros. version. Does anybody have it? If you do please share it with us.

  • s`pose we all have different taste

  • s'pose your right

  • Awesome sound.... Allan's GIVIN' it!!!! Our Hollies at their best!! (Oh, and Terry looks hot in that suit)...I get the shivers every time I watch this ;-)))

  • WoW, Emmylou should get together with the Hollies and all the harmony could cause us to play with a pearl handled deck, ya know, add a steel guitar and the world could cry in their beer without drinking one single drink.

  • thank for sharing this. back than I ws a great fan of Tony Hiks.

What is he doing thease days, Is he stil

    making music?

  • Wow! What happened to Terry?? He is MEGA hot in this video. He certainly grew up to be a very hot man. And Allan with the perfect body, I wanna touch him!!!!

  • @wouldntyoulike2know Terry's always been MEGA hot to me, but he has definitely turned it up a notch. I love his white shirt and jacket. He's looks so classy in Hollies videos with his suits/jackets/shirts. And that gorgeous, shiny black hair --ooh la la!!

  • Diante dessa música e dessa voz em quem se pode pensar? ALLAN CLARKE, ALLAN, ALLAN ,ALLAN

  • I don't speak your language, Vera, but I get the last bit.....and I AGREE, AGREE, AGREE, AGREE!

  • Como você já disse uma vez a língua dos fãs Hollies é universal, I Love Allan Clarke

  • I am a Hollies fan, yet I admit i woringly underrated this song. It's wonderful! Thanks for sharing. I agree, The Hollies songs after the 60's are less known, nevertheless they deserve a second chance and careful ears.

I guess that sometimes the use of strings in their 70's songs may have disappointed the record public, yet Allan is supreme !

  • Sempre, sempre o melhor, o mais sexy, o mais talentoso, a voz mais linda e poderosa, tudo de bom.

  • my heartfelt thanks, I love this version of the Emmylou Harris song the best- compliments Maam your the best.

  • I tore my eyes away from Allan for a second there (not sure how) and realised that Terry and Tony are looking pretty HOT too. Don't worry Lyndloo...it was only a MOMENTARY lapse!! Awesome harmony, guys.

  • One of my all time Hollies favourites!

  • Thank you framafram as I agree the Mid 70's were a very wonderful period for tracks from the HOLLIES,sadly it may be the public had moved on.But we know that those that loved the HOLLIES stuck with them to this very day.We are indeed so fortunate to have all their gifts to revisit whenever we desire.

  • YES YES YES!

  • Beautiful song performed exquisitely by The Wonderful Hollies Allan's vocals are beyond compare, harmonies like angels and Tony Hicks is just gorgeous-Thank you so much!!!

  • I'm clutching my chest as I type this! Allan's emitting a lot of sexy vibes! Hell, the man is bursting with sexiness here! The song is so soulful and touching. He doesn't have to walk from Boulder to Birmingham to see my face, I'll walk over to Boulder myself! Five stars for this stellar tune from the incredible Hollies. Thanks for posting this gem!
