A few years ago the islanders played the Sabres in the playoffs. There was a tripping penalty called on the Islanders, and the replay showed as clear as day that the Sabres player fell on his own. The Sabres broadcasting team watched the replay and didn't say a word about it. When the clip was over they just acted like it was never shown.That is bias that goes beyond the normal hometown bias.

Jeanneret does take some getting used to, but he is quite simply the best NHL announcer in the US. The emotion and energy and creativity he puts into his calls is unparalleled even against Canadian announcers. If anyone has watched enough broadcasts from both sides of the border, they know what I mean. Watching games on ESPN or Vs. is like watching a local college broadcast: bland and boring. Most commentators don't have a clue. They chit chat with each other and then yell for a goal. Not RJ!
