@TheOmnipotentidiot If you intend on modifying your phone regularly rooting will allow you to do so, but it will also allow you to do full backups/restores in case things go wrong. Wireless tether (without the fees Verizon typically charges) is another reason people commonly do it. Personally, I do it for the opportunity to improve the performance or to customize it as I see fit.
This video is definitely not for the novice. You use to many terms I don't know and and the video started telling me things to do, but I had no idea how to get what you had up on your screen up on mine. I felt like I was starting in the middle of the video. Can you recommend a more novice instructional video? I want to use the wifi on my Droid X, but I'm not a hacker. I need a step by step.
Thank you a ton!! I ran into a couple of problems, but by spending some time in your forms and using a little creativity I was able to successfully root my phone!! Time for some Wi-Fi tethering... and removal of some preloaded apps.
so does anyone wanna help me out here. when you root a phone what does it actually allow you to do? i am totally confused as to what root actually does other than "jailbreak" your phone.
Great job! I've been trying to root for the past few days, but I can't get the ADB drivers installed. I did exactly what you guys said, but I get this error message: "The folder you specified doesn't contain.... [skipping to the end]... [M]ake sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based systems." Help please?
first off, i really appreciate what you guys have done helping out the whole android community, secondly, is there a way to reverse the rooting process yet, and if so how would you go about doing it. If not, will there likely be a way to reverse it in the near future after using this method or is it likely we will be stuck with the droid x rooted after using this method? thanks so much.
I get sick when I see people repating the name of the file in adb commands or in shell commands, whats is the need to do "cp /a/abc /b/abc" the probability you will type the filename wrong is greater than just simply doing "cp /a/abc /b/".
In all youtube vids I see about something related to android witch involves adb/shell use, everybody does the same. Would really like to know why!?..
meanwhile, nice tutorial, unfortonately I don't own a droid x, but sure I would like to (:
@fallnfire Looks like you copy/pasted my instructions. What "mess" are you referring to? Also, why did you post rooting instructions in the "Setup ADB" topic?
Will this work on Roger's HTC Dream (1.5)? Post 911 update?

@RealInsaneGalvatron You should pay someone to do it for you then.

@dread313 I would love to, if I could find someone local to do it for me. I'm in the Lexington KY area if anyone is reading this and can help.
