  • Will this work on Roger's HTC Dream (1.5)? Post 911 update?

  • Right, I understand it all, but there is no way this will brick my phone?

  • hey just curious. if i wanted to check the hardware on my phone, and i needed superuser status, how would i do that?

    i tried

    $ su root

    #uname -p

    but that doesnt work

  • whats the next step after rooting to get roms? I did the without adb process also.

  • i seriously spent almost the entire day trying to root my droid X and i was unsuccessful! its sooo frustrating, idk what im doing wrong

  • FINALLY DID IT!

  • i must be a retard. because I have no idea what you are doing.......... I want wifi, but I dont want to f up my phone.

  • just curious, what is the point in "rooting" my droid x? What are the advantages of it?

  • @TheOmnipotentidiot If you intend on modifying your phone regularly rooting will allow you to do so, but it will also allow you to do full backups/restores in case things go wrong. Wireless tether (without the fees Verizon typically charges) is another reason people commonly do it. Personally, I do it for the opportunity to improve the performance or to customize it as I see fit.

  • @TheOmnipotentidiot check out this link too :) androidcentral . com/rooting-it-me-some-qa

  • This video is definitely not for the novice. You use to many terms I don't know and and the video started telling me things to do, but I had no idea how to get what you had up on your screen up on mine. I felt like I was starting in the middle of the video. Can you recommend a more novice instructional video? I want to use the wifi on my Droid X, but I'm not a hacker. I need a step by step.

  • @RealInsaneGalvatron You should pay someone to do it for you then.

  • @dread313 I would love to, if I could find someone local to do it for me. I'm in the Lexington KY area if anyone is reading this and can help.

  • @RealInsaneGalvatron Here in Metro Detroit, there are many people on craigslist. Someone might be in your area. Good luck.

  • Thank you a ton!! I ran into a couple of problems, but by spending some time in your forms and using a little creativity I was able to successfully root my phone!! Time for some Wi-Fi tethering... and removal of some preloaded apps.

  • when the froyo update comes out, if i update my droid x when its rooted, will it brick the phone!?!?!?!?!?

  • so does anyone wanna help me out here. when you root a phone what does it actually allow you to do? i am totally confused as to what root actually does other than "jailbreak" your phone.

  • ill do this after froyo

  • weally? :)

  • Great job! I've been trying to root for the past few days, but I can't get the ADB drivers installed. I did exactly what you guys said, but I get this error message: "The folder you specified doesn't contain.... [skipping to the end]... [M]ake sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based systems." Help please?

  • @UberMonkeykid753

This method may not work on 64 bit systems.

  • good job.

  • Wha'ts the clock widget called? I'm trying to find one just like that.

  • @RiceWithSticks beautiful widgets i believe

  • first off, i really appreciate what you guys have done helping out the whole android community, secondly, is there a way to reverse the rooting process yet, and if so how would you go about doing it. If not, will there likely be a way to reverse it in the near future after using this method or is it likely we will be stuck with the droid x rooted after using this method? thanks so much.

  • Good job, guys.

  • congrats my man !!

  • Hey...so what live wallpaper is that??? Please tell.

  • great guide. thanks for this... are you using OpenHome on your phone?

  • @moltonboron adw,launcher with a Sense theme

  • wat do i need to have to do all this? i have got one thing the droid x and wat else i need?

  • @maseratigtsf Check out the video description.

  • how close are you guys to flashing a custom rom?

  • What is a way to test if busybox is properly installed? Thanks.

  • @infamousdx run "busybox"

  • I get sick when I see people repating the name of the file in adb commands or in shell commands, whats is the need to do "cp /a/abc /b/abc" the probability you will type the filename wrong is greater than just simply doing "cp /a/abc /b/".

In all youtube vids I see about something related to android witch involves adb/shell use, everybody does the same. Would really like to know why!?..

meanwhile, nice tutorial, unfortonately I don't own a droid x, but sure I would like to (:

  • @disk0nnected Habit.

  • EASY EASY EASY Guide @ alldroid . org in the Setup ADB on windows thread, post #92

I am now rooted, and didn't have to go through all that mess!

  • @fallnfire Looks like you copy/pasted my instructions. What "mess" are you referring to? Also, why did you post rooting instructions in the "Setup ADB" topic?

  • Mine says Mot Composite ADB Interface. What's the difference and what do I need to do?

  • What live wallpaper is that?

  • PRAISE JESUS FOR THIS!

  • Having mass amounts of problems with the ADB installation... Could you make a video of that as well?

  • @fallnfire ADB is very hard to get up

  • you guys rock! keep up the awesome work!

  • @seanscarmack Thanks! We aim to please those who appreciate the effort.
