The thing is so many artists that get the biggest marketing and tours are so prefab. They sound passable on a recording, but live they sound like shit (e.g., Katy Perry, Rihanna, etc.). The music industry goes for the cheap and easy and as a result you're not hearing as much quality in top 40 music. Nice production value but the artists aren't always up to the task. Not to say there aren't good artists out there; they just don't get airplay and promotion. It really sucks.
