If mafia would do it to you it would be called extortion. When Bank charges you this is legal. Judge said this is core of the bank account bla bla. What???In any 3 world country if you go overdrawn you are charged interest + cost which is normally not more than £2.50. Why the hell nobody does anything about it?? Everybody knows this is f**** wrong!! Where is Mr Cameron?? Why cheapest credit card charges you interest a minimum 16.9% while interest of BOE is 0.5%?
They Are Gambling Our Money 6 Years Thats All They Have To Wait And Its There Cash. Oh Wait If You Do Get It Back What Have They Lost It Was Your Money In The First Place. I Urge Someone To Stop These Bankers From Thinking There A Casino!!!!
Simple rule is.......if you dont have the money, dont spend it............ You wouldn't go into asda and steal stuff........... so dont go takin stuff when you cant pay for it. :D means you'll NEVERRRRRRRRRR get charged :D its simple :)
@Martyboy2k6 Have you ever had to keep up with house rent, gas/electric bills, council tax and food costs? Sometimes it isn't possible to keep out of overdrafts...
@Martyboy2k6 Banks are here to lend money if I go overdrawn they should charge me their cost + interest which is normally no more than £2.50. They charge 28+ quid for going 5 quid overdrawn mafia would say banks have very good extortion facilities.
Furthermore, if LTSB's share prices over the last week are anything to go by, they may not have a company left soon, so any 'victory' on their part will be short lived. And it's getting close to election time, so Mr Brown will give them another handout and interfere in the charges issue - if he's as sure as the rest of us that he won't be winning next year's election.
How so, bidborough? All that was decided was that the OFT wasn't given the authority to decide on fairness of charges. That leaves the door open to decide who does. It still doesn't mean that the court has decreed that these charges are fair. Besides, the OFT has the right to appeal or structure a new case - even Lord Phillips said the latter.
No they haven't. All it means is that the OFT don't have the authority to say what a fair or unfair charge is. That's not the same as saying that LTSB have won anything.
All that's happened is the situation drags on as before, until the argument gets resolved one way or the other.
Remember that the banks lost out twice in the two previous cases.
I am a Television Production Student about to start my final year. I want to make a film / documentary about bank charges. If you are interested in being in my film please let me know. My aim is to expose unfair and potentially illegal tactics adopted by banks to rob us of our money. Please get involved.
Sounds familiar to our family's situation. Im starting to really dislike Halifax...how come they have double charged me for being overdrawn? they allowed the first overdrawn sale, when it said i had the funds to spend, so i spent it, and went overdrawn a second time i mean WTF? so ill get a nice £35 charge for it. This ultimate reward account is a joke.
I worked at HBOS plc for 4 years and hated every second of it. The company had absolutely no ethical or moral standards, much like the people who worked there that were 'good at their job'.
The bank actively lured vulnerable people into cycles of debt to make as much profit as possible. Overdraft --> Credit Cards --> Loan --> Arrears Recovery --> Court Ruling..that's how they wanted it to play out, pay off debt by offering even more debt.
I agree totally. See my comments above. I am totally disillusioned with the Government for allowing tihs to contine for so long. We have all known about these practices for at least five years now.
Thank you for giving me a little hope that my battle against Lloyds TSB might eventually be won. I have been fighting them for 6 years after losing a job through stress and high blood pressure. Then I could not work for 10 months because I was nursing a relative who was dying. Lloyds just added charge on charge- £200 - £600 per month. I have engaged a solictor and written many letters about the financial hardhip I am in. Their responses are like something out of a novel by Kafka or Orwell.
Work this out, I was charged £39 a few years ago for a failed direct debit, fair enough, I had no money to cover it, so I let it go and just paid up.. A few months ago they charged me £35, and the charge was for 'Paid Item' ?? which took me overdrawn and they threw another £28 on top for it. So how come they can refuse payment one minute when you dont have the funds, then turn around and pay something for you, when you dont have the funds, and charge for both? Daylight robbery! HALIFAX
Late 2008 - Lloyds applied pressure to shut the accounts of Interpal, a charity that had been cleared of wrongdoing twice over.
Jan 2009 - Lloyds forfeits $350 million in the USA for breaking US sanction law by knowing pushing transactions through Iran and Sudan through the US banking system.
Lloyds are fucking immoral hypocrites and should be put out of business.
bullshit, every business has the right to charge what it wants for the service it provides if you think its too expensive go somewhere else. That girl had the choice not to live on benefits by not being a slag, and whats unfair is me paying 500pounds a month in tax to keep her grubby children in new trainers so they can grow up to be overdrawn low lives as well... just like you. get a job and stop moaning you lazy woman.
there are cases where the woman might have been in a loving relationship, the bloke has left her, left her in the shit. not paying maintenance. you watch too much jeremy kyle mate.
u people are all a bunch of imbred retarded fuckwits, if you didnt exceed card limits and spend the banks money becuase you have allready spent your weeks dole then you wouldent be charged. if you dont want to pay a fee, dont go beyond your agreed overdraft its pretty simple you fucking cunt.

If were all fuckwits then why are the bank shitting them selves, no other company is allowed to charge you the amount banks do. Scenerio. Single Mother, baby 8 months old, No one around to look after her and little one. She has no choice but to live on benefits. She goes o/d by a fiver, twice in a monthe, gets charged £70, Half her benefits gone. its about fairness, it doesn't cost the bank £70 to lend us a tenner, it costs about £2.50. Its about fainess. You fucking Cunt!!!
Another thing retard when you lend a tenner off me as you say... i decide what interest i want to charge you, and if you dont like it lend it off somebody else. It has nothing to do with fairness, a football shirt costs a few quid to make but millions of people will buy them for 50 pounds each, its called business, when you use a service you pay for it, if you dont like the cost i suggest you dont use it. take some responsability for managing your own finances and blaming everyone else.
So by your advice therefore we all shouldn't have bank accounts, even your not that thick to know we all HAVE TO have a bank account of some sorts, so there fore we do not have a choice do we. So it is about fairness, when we are forced to use a service then it has to be fair on everyone. Anyway the banks lost the test case so i must be right!!!!
The Bank does not owe you anything. A bank has the right to refuse to lend you money, & when you are refused an overdraft but still go overdrawn you pay the price because you lent the banks money when they had refused to lend it to you its a penalty to discourage this behavour The alternative to the penalty is amusing to me, the test case is actually still ongoing but if it does succeed it will only mean banks will bounce your payments instead then you can pay the other companies charges instead
OCT 08. Result on historic charges: CAN be classed as unfair and most are not penalties. OCT 08. Court of Appeal hearing takes place: banks appealing the Apr unfairness decision.
Off Martin Lewis' web site.
I agree with charges when its like say £30 over your overdraft but I got charged £35 12 months ago for being 52p overdrawn for a day, ok i got the charge back but 52p. I still have the letter to prove it.
oh nothing wrong with my finances i just have some morals and have the same views as the majority of the people. Although i agree with the fact that people shouldn't live beyond their means but for some it isn't that east your just need to look at it a bit or 3 dimensionally. And the fact is obvious you still live with your mum!!!!
I stumbled upon a link to this video after reading an article regarding the changings of a Lloyds customer's banking password without his persmission. Quite funny.

Perhaps people should learn to balance their checkbook and not spend money they don't have! Banks provide a service and disclose to their customers what fees would be charged if overdrawn..so...get over it!
Just a thought...but, for some reason, your response prompted me to check Wiki for the definition of the word "shill" and -- my goodness: there you were!
It doesn't always matter if you have your account straight. They charge you even if you cash a check from someone else and it bounces. How is that your fault if someone elses check bounces?
I remember when I was fined around £70 in one week, for going overdrawn when I was 15, too young to really know how to do anything, and too scared to tell my parents about my mistake.
hahahh wtf what a blatant lie. As it goes i work for lloyds and im aware of the charging systems ands its illegal to apply bank charges even if the account is overdrawn.
Why did they charge my mother, a single parent in a shothole flat over £1,500 for going £5 overdrawn then? Now they've done an ''investigation'' which now costs us a total of £7,000. Your bank is fucking evil.
They constantly charged us with ridiculous bank charge letters that considering our situation was almost impossible to pay the first one, £20. What Lloyds and most of the other banks are doing should be classed as illegal, no ethical bounderies whatsoever and they play on peoples' stupidity or misfortune.
I remember when I was fined around £70 in one week, for going overdrawn when I was 15, too young to really know how to do anything, and too scared to tell my parents about my mistake.
Oystar are protesting outside the court on Fleet Street for the next few weeks and there is currently a lot of media interest. It would be great to get some more people along to the protest to really put the pressure on the banks as the story is all over the papers and TV at the moment. If anyone wants to come along, or wants to come to any of our upcoming gigs, sign up to our newsletter at OystarMusic dot com and we'll keep you posted on times & dates. Hope to see you soon!
everyone on here who sayin the charges are fair and people should manage there finances better are probably millionare snobs or speople wiht enough money to be stuck so far up their own ar*e they cant see daylight. how is charging £30 fair if it only costs the bank 50p?!?! IDIOTS
I fought the Barclays and won. I got £1987 back from them... and they paid the court costs too. Lets hope the current court case against the Banks wins so more can claim back what is rightfully theirs.
Text 'Bankers' to 82822 to join us in our fight against the banks and to get your copy of the single. Please post a link to this video, or embed it on your site. Thanks!
Not at all. The fact of the matter is that although the charges maybe unfair, if people managed their finance correctly there wouldn't be a problem in the first place.
I'm sorry but anyone who can ammount a significant amount of charges (say 1k+) is just stupid.
Even if the banks do lose the test case, it isn't going to stop people getting charged..
Number 25 in the UK charts! Thanks to everyone who has bought it so far - keep spreading the word and let's get bank charges higher up the agenda this week!
I thought Barclays and Won. To all in that situation of bank charges, keep at it. The letters do work and they paid up. It wasn't the total amount tho but it was enough. Power to social media and the people!
Thanks thnidu, gald you enjoyed it! slight technical hitch led to the blackout problem - it's just blank. but if you change it once it's up, you lose all the views... so we had to leave it. Oh well. Thanks again.
Great, both content and performance!! But why is the video's listed time exactly twice as long as its actual running time, with the second half black and silent?
I used to have an account in America and the banks there don't even let you go overdrawn. They also charge you to have an account. At least it's free here as long as you stay within your limits.
True it sucks that you have to pay the to banks look after your money while they earn from it's interest.. but if you go overdrawn here at the moment(even a small amount) you're charged approx £30 for the pleasure..which coincidently is to be contested in court in January.. Power to the people!!
That isn't quite true. Depending on your bank, you can get an account that doesn't charge you fees for keeping the money in the account. WaMu (Washington Mutual) is one of the banks that does this. And, they will let you overdraft your account, but they will charge you a stiff fee for doing so, and if you do it too much, they won't let you overdraft anymore, so manage your money carefully. Best part of the US banking system is the FDIC insurance, which the UK doesn't have :)
So if a direct debit is taken out early for my phone bill a few days before I get paid, and is then charged properly a few days later when I do get paid (the total admin cost for my bank being around 50 pence)... they have a right to charge me £39 for it?
Going overdrawn you use other depositors money and the bank charges you interest, which is fine and fair. This issue is about the banks over charging customers. Charging them 30 quid for a service that costs 50 pence. They legally are not able to do so and that is why it is theft. The court case will show that, the banks know it and this is why they have always settle all cases out of court because they will be proved wrong if they ever went to court. You need to understand the whole issue.
Cancer and fail.

Exactly right JuicyBrucie.
I was OK with LTSB until I had a problem with their service, and then another problem developed from that, and then another...and so on.
Up to now, LTSB have refused to refund my unlawful charges, but LTSB are notoriously arrogant when it comes to charges, so this isn't a surprise.
But it does seems that the banks have lost the test case (announced today).

Do they bowdlerise the cd's in the shops because of the message in the song... or what?
Anyway that's very strange/curious!!!

I love this song.

IDIOTS
itfc999 4 years ago 2
I know, I'm a student and went £6 over and got charged £30 plus interest, the people sticking up for lloyds obviously have too much money!
vaproctor 4 years ago 3
It costs more than 50p to managed overdrawn customers, you're right in that it doesn't cost £30. more like about £5/6 per day.

I fought the Barclays and won. I got £1987 back from them... and they paid the court costs too. Lets hope the current court case against the Banks wins so more can claim back what is rightfully theirs.

Might I add, fantastic song... it makes me feel like caring about something/fighting for something and I haven't felt like that for a while. :)

*yawn* maybe you should make a song about how people shouldn't be so careless and get charged in the first place?
meyym 4 years ago
You looking to become a bank manager then? :)
hazamonzo 4 years ago

At least it's free here as long as you stay within your limits.
spicolicat 4 years ago
True it sucks that you have to pay the to banks look after your money while they earn from it's interest.. but if you go overdrawn here at the moment(even a small amount) you're charged approx £30 for the pleasure..which coincidently is to be contested in court in January.. Power to the people!!
jayinnit 4 years ago 2
That isn't quite true. Depending on your bank, you can get an account that doesn't charge you fees for keeping the money in the account. WaMu (Washington Mutual) is one of the banks that does this. And, they will let you overdraft your account, but they will charge you a stiff fee for doing so, and if you do it too much, they won't let you overdraft anymore, so manage your money carefully. Best part of the US banking system is the FDIC insurance, which the UK doesn't have :)

They are only paying you your money back...theiving BANKERS
JuicyBrucie 4 years ago
So in the same vein, you are only robbing the bank of money when you go over your agreed limits.
Thieving layabouts!
meyym 4 years ago
So if a direct debit is taken out early for my phone bill a few days before I get paid, and is then charged properly a few days later when I do get paid (the total admin cost for my bank being around 50 pence)... they have a right to charge me £39 for it?
I don't think. Thieving banks I say!
nutnoodle 4 years ago
Going overdrawn you use other depositors money and the bank charges you interest, which is fine and fair. This issue is about the banks over charging customers. Charging them 30 quid for a service that costs 50 pence. They legally are not able to do so and that is why it is theft. The court case will show that, the banks know it and this is why they have always settle all cases out of court because they will be proved wrong if they ever went to court. You need to understand the whole issue.
