Dude, im 16.. going from a 98 Ford escort to this would be NIIIIIIICCCCEEE.
I found one on craigslist for like 1200 bucks thats missing the highest gear in the tranny.. im gonna buy this car and drive it till im like 80. if i dont kill myself with that burly ass 429 under the hood. SHELL PASS ANYTHING BUT A GAS STATION:D
learned to drive in this model caddy...mine was tan/creme interior......remember the day my Pa threw the keys down the stairwell to me....:-) many happy memories of it...used as a daily driver from about 75-78....what a car...
Can you tell me why I see some 65 Cadillacs with a three spoke steering wheel and others like yours, with what look likes the two spoke '64 Caddy steering wheel?
I enjoyed your video. I have owned a 60, 63 and now own a 65 Cadillac Convtertible. All were great cars. And i probably would still own them all today. But i didnt have the space to store them. Its nice to see an original car. I dont like when people pimp them out with honkin chrome wheels and glitter paint jobs.
You have very fine taste in cars and I thank you so much for keeping this American beauty in such original condition. If you can afford the time, I suggest that you show your car at Steve Plunkett's "Cadillac Country Cruize In" in London, Ontario Canada. It is the largest car show in North America and has gained the attention of Jay Leno and also of the BBC in the UK. You can also be assured of great Canadian hospitality if you choose to pay us a visit. Hope to see you in 2011!
Gee, I have three absolute mint 65' caddies, a 65 Eldo conv. with 23k orig. miles,a 65' DeVille Conv. with 18k orig, miles and a 65 Fleetwood Brougham with 34k mikes all Texas rust free.
@combatautumn If you buy a plane ticket and come to the event in June 2011, you won't be disappointed. Next year's theme for the show is going to be Happy Days and it might be complete with the Fonz in person and a replica of Arnold's Drive-in. They are working on getting the actors from the show to appear at the car show for autographs, etc. This year we had Bo Hopkins, Cindy Williams and other key actors from American Graffiti. Search Steve Plunkett on YouTube and you can see some of this!
For those of that have been around a while, know that Cadillac comes up with a drope dead winner every so many years. Some times it's not as evident when the car was current as it years later.
The 65 in the vid is a prime example of that. With it's understated lines and uncluttered bright work, this classic beauty remains timeless. Some times less is more. What a fabulous example of American automotive art.
I have three 65s. 1 Eldorado Conv. with 23k original miles, 1 DeVille Conv. with 18k original miles and 1 Fleetwood Brougham with 35k original miles. All original and I wouldn't part with any of them for a King's ransom.
Every time I take these beauties out I'm like a Father holding his first born!
You must be a very lucky man to have one of each of these trophies with such low original mileage. One of the things I like about the 65 over even the 66, was the slight visor treatment on the top of the headlights. It was gone in 66 I think a big mistake. Also the real wood panels in the doors and 8 pwr windows in the Fltwd. Just marvelous. Both leather and Brocade Interiors were second to none in those days. 2 dup the car today 85-95K minimum
I so agree with you. My family had a Cadillac/Pontiac dealership in upstate New York from 1946-1986. I grew up with these cars and the one complaint I remember from our Cadillac customers in 66 was "Where did all the chrome go"?
Apparently in 65' cadillac went over budget on the build cost for these cars and eventhough they were all sold out with the May 65' orders GM cut budget on the 66' model.
@combatautumn I appreciate that tidbit of trivia. There must be endless stories like this and what you say makes sense because if you notice they brought the headlight treatment back in 67, though many of the lushes goodies were discontinued, like power vent windows.
Seems interiors weren't
equal par to the 65 either. If one looks at the upholstery the seats are more couches, super thick and luxurious. Just beautiful
@johnnyohness Not true, about the power vent windows. I have owned a '67 Fleetwood 8 window sedan in which all 8, including all 4 of the vents, were power. I currently own a '68 Brougham with all eight windows - including the vent windows - being power. My '68 also is about the best equipped Cadillac [for '68] I have ever seen. power windows, seat, trunk release, locks, cruise, tilt/tele column, am/fm, automatic air, level ride, etc.
@Wagonmaster74 Thank you for your post. For a second I thought you were mistaken, so googled Images 1967 Cadillac 8 window Fleetwood, and by golly you are right. It appears some were made. Can you tell me was everything in the full size sedan w/o 8 windows a Sedan De ville? Or was there 2 versions of the Fleetwood, not talking about the limo. Just curious.
Cadillac styling was superb at this time. Elegant, clean and luxurious. Appreciably more subtle than earlier models yet still retained the signature Cadillac characteristics.
In the 60's there was no question to anyone on the road that this is an expensive, quality car and the owner is probably someone important.
I completely disagree that by '65 a Cadillac its unique styling. True it doesn't have tailfins, but it doesn't need them to be a beautiful car. It's loaded with elegance and class and the long, heavy wheelbase would hold that gorgeous sweetheart on the road and give a great ride. I'd love to be seen in it!
By 1965, the Cadillac had lost it's fins and the generally unique styling that had made a Cadillac look like a Cadillac. The 1965 model was fairly plain looking, not much design. Just my opinion and others may have different opinions. The 1959 and 1960 models had the biggest fins, and had a classic look, but also the early 60's Caddys looked pretty good too with their smaller fins.
Dude, you're so right, in my opinion, Cadillacs essentially lost their greatest age of style when they lost the fins, I personally can't tell why they got rid of them in the first place...
Styles change...but I seriously doubt either one of you would turn down the chance to drive the above car. Its a pleasure, literally like driving a boat down the street.
I love the Caddy's from 60 to 68 for the simple reason they all had the tail lights rigged to make the reverse lens turn red. It was like a light show. In the 80's they tried something similar but it wasn't the same.
In 1976, when I was 18, I bought a 1965 Cadillac for only 60 bucks. I drove it for about 18 months and it would beat my brother's brand new Chevy V8 pickup in a race. These cars had a 472 cubic in engine with 340 horsepower. They were pretty fast cars for their size.
now i would like that just in a hard top

Nice lines, but I'd still take a 1949 Series 62 Sedanette over anything in the 1960's.

Very plain looking in '65. Really nothing special like the earlier Cadillacs from the 40s and 50s. Just a huge big old boat without any style.

You are correct. The 65s only had the 429, but they were still FAST!!!

I had this car in the coupe de ville version, same color too. was a great car a 429 with 340 hp and 480 lbs of torque

Oh, BTW, back in 1976, gas was only about 50 cents a gallon. So it didn't matter if it only got about 8 or 9 mpg.
