  • @Taekkyon2coree Hi. I've been watching some Taekkyon videos now and I find this style extremely interesting. What I wanted to know is if this style also has roots tracing back to the Chinese martial arts or if it is completely independent. Thank you.

  • Hello,

Taekkyon is considered the origin of bare-hands Korean martial art.

The word itself can be found (in hangul) in document from middle of 17th century. But its history can be traced further under other names.

Taekkyon is unique because of its fluid dance-like look but also its playful spirit and traditional game rules: throwing down or kicking the opponent's head without hard blows and injuries/knock out.

  • Taekkyon is also the ONLY martial art recognized as Cultural Treasure by the S.Korean government.

    Thanks for your interest!

  • Most kicks you see in this video are slightly slower pushing kicks to limitate pain to the opponent.

Taekkyon also teaches (to advanced students) quicker and more painful kicks, which are not allowed in competition!

  • It looks similar because TKD has a root in Taekkyon. This is the original.

  • 1.08 when he runs up his kne and shoulder then kicks him in the back of the head

  • i want to learn 1'08 hworang style looks very similar to tkd

  • You have to climb on the opponent first, not so easy ;-)
