Of course this movie was inspired by cold war propoganda, but it was also inspired by the general idea of a bully getting beat by an overachieving little guy. Perhaps the bully was america, i don't really know and i try not to be so nationalistic to care honestly. I like the idea of the overachieving underdog with tons of heart beating the other guy even though he's overmatched. Think of villanova vs. georgetown if you'd rather.
