  • 1:15 why didnt he just turn right?

  • My friend and I just watched this episode for the first time tonight. We're both studying physics students in university. After this scene was over, I looked over to him and just outright asked, eyes wide open, "Was that just a nerdgasm?"

  • hahaha creative as usually, thats why i love dem

  • @mistalova Elitism sucks balls though :p

  • This is why Futurama got cancelled the first time. Because everyone at FOX is dumb and don't get it.

  • @TheChuchulainn So true and they laugh at shows that aren't even funny.

  • Just saw a pic of the real Schrödinger, good likeness.

  • I love the soundtrack at 1:05.

  • ANSWER HIM, YOU FOOL!!!! jajajajajjjaa

  • SWEET ^^

  • I don't get the math/physics jokes D: I feel so ignorant

  • shrodinger does coke

  • @drakan80 when did they speak latin.

  • CERN just did this! Call the police!

  • One guy does't understand the theory.

  • Greatest scene in Futurama history. I could not stop laughing. There were so many math/physics jokes I stopped counting.

  • Alive or dead? ALIVE OR DEAD!!??

  • I dont get the "particular inividual" joke...

  • @mistalova *hilarious

    *Schrodinger's

"i wonder how stupid people feel when watching this"

I don't know -- how did you feel?

  • @hayesism ZING!

  • @hayesism Actually spelling it "Schroedinger" is correct as the original German spelling contains an umlaut over the "O" altering the pronunciation, often in English, a supplemental "E" is used to try to achieve the same phonetic as the original german when spoken with an umlaut, which despite being a Latin character is not a recognised and similarly functioning character in English. Congratulations on putting the apostrophe in the correct position though... Stop trolling dumbass.

  • Lorentz Invariance, Fresnel Refraction of Light, Schrodinger's Cat, and a cool Tron theme to hold it all together. I can't even handle this right now. So freaking amazing. I love David X. Cohen.

  • @mahin1234567890 Yeah is amazing, the first time I saw the video I remember the particle in the box model of my physical chemistry class when schrodinger was running away.

  • "there s also a lot of drugs in there...."

    aaaaaaaaax0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa00xa0ax0xa

too much humor in less than 2 minutes

  • Ah, so many sci-fi and actual science references.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the Lorentz invariance reference, as my physics sucks. However, one of the first ideas I heard about quantum physics was Schrödinger's cat, so that I recognized.

And of course so many references to Tron, Minority Report and Avatar. Sci-fi geek heaven :-P

  • @oshomroni Lorentz invariance/covariance usually means: if you go from looking at an object "A" that is standing still with respect to you, to looking at it from a system where it has velocity ~bigger than 10% of light speed then you must apply a "Lorentz transformation" to use the same physics models/theorys on A. Here, imagine you're Fry or URL and "A" is Schrödinger.

Invariance here it might means: certain physical quantities don't change when transformed

  • @oshomroni but c must be the upper limit for every velocity in every frame of reference. Their velocity meter might use this and when showing, Schroedinger is speeding by something larger than c he must violate some transformation laws...That would be the bigger picture.

The short version would be: he was going faster than the upper limit for all velocities of universe.

Hope I didn't call for more confusion than there already is with Relativity *g

  • @mithrandir1988 Thank you. I actually am familiar with c being annotated as the speed of light from the equation E=mc^2. I would have probably understood it better if he said something like "he is breaking the laws of physics", since I am aware of the physics principle that matter cannot travel faster than the speed of light. The words "Lorentz invariance" confused me, but thanks for the elaboration and clear explanation :-)

  • This video contains so many funny things that make Futurama the best show on earth.

    "Circuit City"

"Look out for that particular individual!"

"An electric wall, eyy? Can't see the harm in peeing on that."

    "Let's refract this sucker!"

And of course, the entire Schrodinger joke. Hahaha, I love Futurama!

  • @majestic93 you forgot the giant fresnel circle and the Lorentz Invariance c+15mph haha

  • @JonoriusGM Haha, yeah. I know. God I love Futurama.

This episode was just packed with random humor like this. Loved it.

  • I didn't get the Lorentz Invariant joke but I couldn't stop laughing when it turns out the driver's Erwin Schrodinger and Fry keeps asking if the cat's alive or dead.

  • Noone picked up on the particle in a box joke - you all suck.

    tv. gawker. com/5820082/futurama-physics-the-secrets-of-fresnelling

  • This must be the best Futurama sequence. I have watched it at least 10 times and is still hilarious. But we must agree that it was written by geeks for geeks. "Let's diffract this sucker" (and into the Fresnel circle...). Erwin is then convicted for violating the laws of Physics.

  • Haha futurama's rarely been so deeply into geeky physics humour!!

  • Nobody noticed the giant Fresnel lens ? XD

  • ROTFLMFAO

No, really. I am such a geek.

  • @CyberiusT The best humour requires at least a minor level of geekdom ;)

  • lorentz invariance

  • Law of Lorenzen Variance baby...Don't Violate It!

  • @WaheedAhmed14 That is Lorentz Invariance. It basically says that nothing can go over the speed of light (Wiki it - second meaning in the beginning of the article).

  • @dnissen2012 Dont mean to be rude at all. Just wanted to tell you. Lorentz Invariance is not the impossibility of going over c, but a bit more complex property that all (classical) physical systems must obey. Sure it implies not being able to go over c. But its a lot more than that. When I heard it in the show, I just could not stop laughing like I was mad, OMFG great sketch, really really great! (Check out the: "Fresnel Circle" when they're going to "refract him", JUST FRAKING AWESOME!)
