I love how the Captain plays "yo ho ho and a bottle of rum" as the "muskrat," then turns to somebody in the audience as if to say, "What, you know what a muskrat in love actually sounds like?" Hokey, but I love it!
This is Classic Music, the kind sadly thats not done much or appreciated anymore!! I miss the 70's and 80's for the good quality music we had as compared to this new so called music that only cares about how many records are sold or how much sex in the lyrics. Sex is not love and love isn't just sex!!
I ate my dinner listening to this. It was a southern meal of buttermilk fried chicken, homemade biscuits and russet fries finished off with chamomille tea. This track was Perfect for it. Love this.
This song places at least twice a day at my work and it makes me want to go insane, the song makes no sense what so ever. They have beauitful voices, but why couldn't they just sing a normal love song.
My son just brought into our home his and our first ferret.I have to be honest,I'm in love. She's only wks old, nibbles on my toes and will wreck havoc if you let her but she's the most precious, hilarious baby animal I've ever been around(which is alot)I filmed me w/her to this song and its so freakin'funny.I'll post it soon!
I like Captain and Tenille, but I don't like this song, I just think its dumb, talking about two muskrats falling in love????? what the hell, was the writer of this song smoking a joint??? ROTFL
ther best songs are Love Will Keep Us Together, and Shop Around, those are my faves!
What a wonderful slice of the 70's ,Thank you for posting this classic ,such memories and what an inviting smile Toni has (eat your heart out Julia Roberts)
could anyone look more sweet and lovable than toni tennille does here? heaven must have been missing an angel that nite..........such a beautiful performance!!
such beauty and class and so talented......while other singers of this time worry more about getting in the tabloids........this ladie held herself with dignity, class and realism........some of the singers in todays time could learn ALOT from the singers that came before them........its a shame that fame n money is more important then the fans that make them what they are.......as in terms of being rich.........what a shame.......Mitch
When I was a child I LOVED THIS SONG. Oh by the way, I'm African American from the city. It shouldnt matter but the point is how good music cross all culture and ethnic lines. where's the studio version
@davidvirgodc - Five stars on your comment ! I'm Danish American from the city and I've always loved the vocal harmony and instrumental arrangements of loads of Black groups as well.
I was just thinking last week how music is the true international language.
I just put this song on my 1976 playlist -I'm playlisting each of the past 100 years in music and 1950-1976 each play for an hour so far. You can soon travel back to any of those years on my channel.
Wow this is crazy. I was in Prescott, AZ visiting my dad after his heart attack and she came in and I had no i idea who she was tell she left. Wish i would have known. She is a very nice lady, and she had a cute dog.

My God, Toni Tennille makes "Muskrat Love" sound like a Verdi aria. A silly song, but a brilliant voice! She simply makes my heart glad.
