America has been in wars since it was a free country from the British. Even before it was free we were in wars with the Indians. I think America needs to take a step back and start thinking of a war free America.
@N33DL3R Under the Torrijos-Carter Treaties, while Panama is primarily responsible for the canal's defense, the U.S. retains the permanent right to defend the canal from any threat that might interfere with its continued neutral service to ships of all nations.
in the late 1800's the U.S. needed a shorter route to get ship from the western parts of north America to the eastern parts of North America . Panama the Central American Country signed a treaty with the United States of North America it was a 100 year treaty with the U.S..
the Treaty was that the U.S. had to leave Panama in the year 2000 after the 100 old treaty was over...
simple as that...
then Again Natives Americans made lots of treaties too and when can see how that went....
Spoken like a true doctor- cautious, calculating, always sure he has all the information. When it is time for action, he is precise, concise, efficient and has a justification for his actions.
Paul doesn't mention it but he knows it. In this hypothetical scenario, there would be a reason as to why the Canal would be shut down, and that reason would be because of U.S. intervention somewhere. The reality is America doesn't have to deal with war if it stays out of other countries' business, which is exactly what Paul would do.
@danftv8 I agree, so many soldiers commit suicide in the wars in the middle east because what they are doing isn't right and there isn't a sense of actually defending their country.

What a very coy and clever way to say "I would invade Panama to protect American economic interests."
Interesting how his continued stance on Panama is downplayed by his lackeys, pretending him to be a "non-interventionist."

It's a shame that Ron Paul wants us to be the hostile regime to take over the panama canal. What a warmonger.

Much more precise then schizophrenically spreading democracy to countries who don't want their land being occupied.
I think Dr. Paul makes the correct diagnosis :-)

i like the idea of All out war or none. because we should only be fighting war if there is that much of a need for it

It is interesting to note on how many folks have no idea what the US Constitution holds in it.
