O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allâh (Alone), and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allâh
@XxHeavensXAnglexX i am wiccan..however my kids are free to be any religion they want..including christianity. i don't forbid them to know jesus..if that's their wish. and i am not evil nor am i satanic...i wonder how many witches you know personally? not many is my guess or you would not say such things.
If you want to follow proper Christian doctrines, then you also should round up all the women who have careers or are getting an education and burn them alive. Yeah, fuck you.
no and neither should they participate in Christmas. Christmas trees are derived from a pagan tradition and in early america, trees were forbidden. Do some study, Christmas trees go all the way back to Egypt days and is symbolic of the pyramid, winter solstice, Obliesk.
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. Matt. 7:13. 'The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9.
the truth is that when all the true pagan religions were supreme the Greco/roman/Jewish religions were all based in the middle east so we should go back to our true faiths and disregarde the above mentioned contradictory miss guided Christian beliefs
This is indeed intersting, I am aware halloween is bad. We used to have a pastor who gave us a list what each thing meant. From saying trick ir treat to the black cat. However look up chick tracts. * the little princess * christians gave candy and chick tracts aká christian books. There are other halloween christian books too. Its all in Your faith that day. Also look up the halloween *king of the Hill* episode where a christian witch of a jerk who ruined everyone's halloween in a jerky Way.
Whatever the origin of Halloween is if you look into what the day signifies to those who practice witchcraft today it is a very religious day to them. If Halloween had no satanic ties than why do witches and warlords celebrate it? Did you know that in some countries some people have it as a day off as a religious holiday? We celebrate a RISEN Savior who sits at the right hand throne of the Father God. Who cares about Halloween? Like really people.
Thank you Mark for not sitting on the fence on this topic. Halloween is also a religious day for those who practice witchcraft it's more than just getting dressed up in scary outfits to ward off the dead. It's more than a cultural event it's blatant utter evil. There is no way a person who claims to love and know God through his word and life of Jesus should be contemplating if this celebration is simply okay. We celebrate a risen Savior!
@theleodavinci1500 whatever the origin of Halloween is if you look into what the day signifies to those who practice witchcraft today it is a very religious day to them. If Halloween had no satanic ties than why do witches and warlords celebrate it? Did you know that in some countries some people have it as a day off as a religious holiday? We celebrate a RISEN Savior who sits at the right hand throne of the Father God. Who cares about Halloween? Like really people.
halloween was a day of harvest and for a while the harvest did not grow and one day the crops finally grew and the farmers dressed and celebrated as the crops
I'm Catholic and in my family we observe All Saints and All Souls for All Souls we lights candles in remeberance of our relatives who died and we clean thier graves and such activities and for All Saints we of course remember and celebrate the Saints. No costumes required. My daughter (5yrs) loves participating in both celebrations.
My mom come up with a good version for Halloween XD...
She let me wear costume just not evil ones like: Fairy, Princess, Mermaid, Kitties, and stuff like that, and my borther dress up a shepered, and other bible costumes.
We when to are Church Harvest festival that was like a little kids christan carnival we learned about the bible in it to.
You can go trick or treating, but not wear bad costume. Their things you can do for halloween that aren't bad :) and can show your faith.
@XxHeavensXAnglexX Unfortunately with that solution we teach our children that a day where witchcraft is celebrated we acknowledge it also. Witches don't celebrate anything that has to do with Jesus and nor do they allow their children to enter into a Christian celebration like the birth of Jesus and his resurrection to fit in with Christian culture.
@HotpepperDr Im not sure what that has to do with what I said? plus Halloween started as a christen holiday not what he said it goes with jewish calened for harvest that pagens toke over. Sorry but his fact are wong anyways :P
@XxHeavensXAnglexX Why is it that Christians minimize pagan or crazy celebrations? The simple fact is it's disturbing to get your children dressed up whether in cute or monstrous outfits threatening people that if they don't get a treat they will play a trick on someone. Since when is it normal for Christians to blend in to other crazy cultural ideas or celebrating a day for the dead. No wonder our faith is futile to non Christians we blend in instead of stepping out.
@HotpepperDr no one ever play a trick -_-....plus I don't see harm when churchs have havest vistialls on halloween. The day of the dead is Monday!!!! not on halloween!!!!! First look up fact before commenting!
@HotpepperDr not really that reason its cuz there is absolute truth that we dont give paganism reliability. Respect on the other hand we should but respect means to HIGHLY esteem, if i highly value u ill tell u the truth about what ur doing thats love. Love isnt giving you your best pleasure but giving u your best outcome
@XxHeavensXAnglexX Well you tell get your mom to show me where the bible says "Keep Halloween, or Christmas etc. I will assure you (Proffessing Christians) that Mark 7:7 Christ states "In-Vain do you even worship me, teaching for doctrines of mans traditions, v 13. And making God's commandments of no effect through your own tradition." You cant water down a PAGAN custom and say "Well this is fine". Ever heard of "Passover", "Days of Unleavened Bread", "Pentecost", "Feast of Trumpets" etc?
The Christians (and the Jews and Muslims) are strangely silent on the kidnapping, torture and even murder of some prisoners in the concentration camp Guantanamo Bay. They walk on the other side of the street, turning their heads away. I believe no one is really a Christian if he had no opinion and had made no action against the evil forces who run Gitmo. It is like turning the other way when the Nazi's were gassing innocent people in their concentration camps. Would Jesus have remained silent?
WOW! thank you i have been trying to understand why halloween is bad as being a christian and the vers in luke is wonderful and it fallows through making had choses and life style thank you for answering my question
AWESOME, Mark!!!! I agree with you 110%!! I made a decision and took a stand against Halloween, tears ago. So thankful that you agree! You are a blessing and gift from Christ. God bless you, Brother!
If you are looking for a new and different explanation of the ultimate truth that makes sense and is based on evidence you can check for yourself, search for "Church of Innerspace" in Google, click the first result, and read what it says.
Um... You all do realize that Christianity IS NOT the first religion and that the Christian holidays WERE pagan holidays that a bunch of men just tweaked a bit and renamed "Christian" holidays, right? They're NOT original "Christian" holidays. Do some studying. Seriously. Also, "Halloween" was about honoring the souls of the dead. So should Christians celebrate it? Well, if you're not interested in honoring lost loved ones, then no, you shouldn't.
@roserox1 Is the rudeness really called for? Thanks for your input though. I understand what you are saying, the question is 'as a Christian should we encourage it' I think the answer to that is no, it is not something god would celebrate. P.s. memorial day is remembering those who dies fighting to defend the country, it is not really the same thing?
@chrisdoney i think rudeness is called for actually..as i have seen page after page after page of comments calling people of my religion evil..or devil worshippers..or that my holiday is that of the devil..it is NOT. and i am feeling a little defensive. and ps...yes, originally and traditionally memorial day was set aside for honoring our fallen soliers. but most everyone i know also takes flowers to the graves of ALL
@chrisdoney actually i do think the rudeness is called for. as i have seen page after page of comments calling people of my religion evil..or that halloween is a satanic holiday. it is NOT. and it makes me a little defensive. i am not a bad or evil person. i am president of my town's volunteer organization, the cubmaster of our town's cubscout pack. room mommy for my son's class. and p.s. yes, originally and traditionally memorial day was set aside to honor our fallen soldiers.
@chrisdoney my computer's gone crazy..lol..but i was trying to say that everyone i know takes flowers to the graves of all of their family and loved ones that have passed away on memorial day. we always have..so yes..for me it is the same.
@roserox1 Thanks for clarifying that., I have a bit more understanding now. What is your religion? Just out of interest. I wasn't aware anyone was calling a particular religion Evil. The main reason I liked this video was that so many people have no idea of the 'real meaning' of Halloween. I also learned a lot form it. Thanks
@chrisdoney :) i am wiccan. i too am interested in the origin of holidays..very cool. even though i am wiccan, i am very interested in learning about other religions.
@chrisdoney wicca is basically a religion of worshiping nature..alot of it resembles native american beliefs. there are many variations and many elements involved..the phases of the moon and the seasons are what our holidays revolve around. some believe in reincarnation. spell casting and meditation are our equivalent to prayer. it's a very peaceful religion. we do not believe in the devil, it is a christian belief. every living being has a spirit...just a few things about wicca. blessed be :)
Hey mark, loved this video. I was wondering what your thoughts on Santa were. As a Christian what should I tell my kids? I like the fun Santa brings and I don't want them to miss out on that excitement. But I do not want to lie to them. I also don't want them to be that child at school who ruins it for all the others by telling them 'the truth about Santa' could you please make a video on this subject? Thanks
Okay I can see your side, but that being said those things aren't scary in the first place because they are powerless before god and I can dress up as anything. I've been a Ninja Turtle before. I could just dress up as an Angel and pass out free candy.
oooh, scary halloween...some of you people are the biggest cry-babies i have ever seen. "halloween is evil!" no it's not you dipsh*ts..it's just different. lots of different religions out there and wicca is not evil. halloween is about remembering the dead..how is that ANY different than memorial day??? remembering and celebrating..that's IT!! get a grip..good GODDESS!!! lol!!!
That's all non-believers need to hear is one more thing you can't do if you are a Christian. Good intentioned "Christians" have done more to turn non-believers away from God than all the atheist that ever lived. Satan is doing a good job inside the church buildings.
God can take a bad thing and make something good from it. How about handing out christian literature with the candy you give on Halloween? I'm sure most people that participate in Halloween have no evil intention what so ever. I say get involved and be a good witness, do something positive for Christ, don't crawl in a hole and pretend it doesn't exist. That's why churches provide an alternative to halloween.
I see nothing wrong with a child dressing up as Sponge Bob Square Pants or some other harmless character on Halloween or whatever you want to call it. What if Christians dressed up as non evil characters and went door to door the day AFTER Halloween? Would that be considered contrary to the Christian faith? No that would be considered evangelizing.
Plan and simple I stop participating in Halloween 20 years ago because I grew in my faith for Christ I just felt it was disrespectful to him to participate in a Pegan Holiday. I don't criticize others for doing it, I just felt for me and my heart I wanted to show respect to my God.I felt sad for choosing Halloween over him knowing in my heart it was hurtful to him.
Mark, I BEG of you to do a video about CHRISTMAS like this.....I have a group on facebook called Rock Solid and a discussion on there is about how Christmas originated from pagans. PLEASE HELP!?!?!
I can see that on here you cop alot of crap from people, but I can see that you have a genuine message to share, while some is your opinion I really love and appreciate how you use you your bible as a reference and source of your knowlege. You bring everything back to the word of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ and thats how the gospel should be preached,
Your work and words are really encouraging keep up the good work! :)
Burning/Boiling people to death is evil. The early Church has a lot to answer for. They actually made a statement admitting they were wrong and "witch"-burning stopped happening from that point on. How do you make the leap between "not being afraid of "evil" characters" and sympathising with Satan? BTW, just so you know Vampire bats do not suck blood from humans. As Christians, we should not fear "witches", "vampiers" NOR Satan (because Jesus came to save us from him). God Bless You Always! :-D
I agree with your views on halloween, but do you participate in the Christmas rituals, considering they were started in the same paeanistic fashion? If do, I would encourage you to research the beginning of how Christmas was started and weigh the hypocrisy that Christians should face if they do.
Holloween isn't the INNOCENT holiday it was years ago when children dressed as cowboys & princesses. Most of the costumes we see today reflect real life dark EVIL gore which bring to mind portrayals of graphic violence, blood, & bloody instruments used to kill & maim. We see this evil violence each day via tv & news. In a sick way these costumes & decorations which depict the same, are glorifying satan, evil and darkness when those of us who abhor such things should be doing the exact opposite!
who celebrates halloween based on its origins anymore? i mean honestly, now it's just a fun festival for people to dress up and be someone that they normally isn't! What aspect of that is against the Christian faith?
I have so many people who think Im taking away from my children by not allowing them to participate. I tell them that halloween is celebrating evil. It is very clear but for some reason so many people just can't get that. Even after I'm asked, and explain why, they still don't get it. The only things we allow, are for our children to have a cute costume for school for fun, and to go a few neighbors to get candy. They know we celebrate HARVEST but not HALLOWEEN! They completely understand it.
[cont 2:] Also, one of the arguments against taking part is that it originated in pagan tradition. Unfortunately, this would also spill over into a lot of our traditions surrounding other religious holidays, such as dying Easter eggs, and Christmas. The Christmas tree, the wreath, the mistletoe, even the night on which we celebrate Christ's birth. Many Christians don't celebrate Santa, but I haven't heard of any that reject the rest of the fun and warmth of the season. Should we?
[cont...] There are a few comments I'd like to make, just for food for thought. You mentioned that by participating in Halloween, we are desensitizing ourselves to evil, but earlier you said that the Celts dressed up as scary things because they genuinely believed that they were real and scary, [not because they were mocking evil, and saying it wasn't that bad]. Could we use the day as a teachable moment for our children, acknowledging evil and dressing as good?
Thank you for your sermon. As a fairly recently born-again Christian, this topic continues to be a struggle for me as Halloween was one of my favourite childhood holidays. I have heard both sides, and feel perhaps more peer pressure from the church to not participate than I do from the world TO participate. I am trying to listen to the Holy Spirit's conviction, and not be controlled by fear that I sometimes feel is imaginary, or giving Satan too much power over us.
Thank you so much for posting this video. It was very insightful and I always find it refreshing to hear a strong Christian point of view that is so counter-cultural. Today, it is easy for people to comment and be hateful because that is everywhere around us. So thank you!
i love halloween. its so much fun. Halloween isn't evil. and the aztecs they didn't have halloween, it's called day of the dead, they celebrate life, and the return of the dead. having party on the streets, like a big family reunion. like everyone is together again. it's a very cool thing. it's now celebrated in mexico. and Samhain was similar except less of a reunion.
Catholic 1: We want to convert the pagan Saxons/Celts/Franks but we dont want to alienate them by forcing them to give up the rites and festivals they already have. So what is the answer?
Catholic 2: We take the festivals they already have and give them a Christian Veener, so instead of communicating with the Spirits of thier ancestors we say that they can honour Christian Saints.
@undercoverspy123 & @MrThreshold2009 I would appreciate it if you would not make fun of our faith. I surely dont make fun of yours and I feel that you are just showing your immaturity, if you are going to comment on the video, then comment about it and not about how stupid you think our faith is.
My family is like the first choice... pretend it doesnt exist. Personally I just think it's another day in the year I dont dress up, I let it go by and help my friend pass out candy to kids that knock.
There is a simple solution for you christians; drink 70cl of Vodka before you make your decision and, either way, you'll not remember what you did anyway. Problem solved.
ol hallow's eve >>> halloween you know the english language tends to shift over the years lol
@7:34 yes, that is his(Lucifer) plan, knowing that God is trying to keep us away from such evil he wants to make them feel as if well witchcraft and so on is ok when it really isn't but they're gonna fall for it anyway.
only reason why i go out on halloween(no costume except my school uniform-should be scary enough lol) i just want the free candy. :3
@jacobvictory It depends on me admitting that I am human and have (and unfortunately continue to) make mistakes (sin), and then accepting God's gift... His sacrifice in coming to the Earth as Jesus and dieing in my place.
wow man you are a talented speaker. Halloween is kind of confusing for me cuz its always been just a chance to get free candy but after watching you've really explained why some find it not Christian. Also thanks for saying where Halloween came from haha ive never known till now
If anyone would like prayer please message me. I will pray for you and trust me God will do something if you call upon his name. Roman 10:9 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
You misunderstand me, I was not saying that we worship Halloween, What I am saying is to take the things of Halloween (costumes, candy, games) and change little bits and pieces for church (trunk or treat, praise night, etc...) so people will like us / come to our church is wrong... Even dressing up in any kind of costume is wrong... By doing any of the above we are mixing ungodly things with God and that isn't okay... God says it is wrong to mix holy and unholy not me!
@LoneMonk1 I'm sorry neighbor. It would seem that enough time has passed that I cannot re-call in what light I made such a comment. Can you copy past what you had said and then what I'd said? Thank you.
Wow... this guy has no clue about how Halloween actually started. They did not dress up to scare away spirits. They believed that their ancestors could "breach the veil" and CELEBRATED that.
@Kashaan94 You are mistaken. They wanted to blend into the dead to avoid being attacked. You can weatch the history channel and learn that...Wow. Make sure your facts are straight before you bash others or you just look dumb.
No, I'm not. And I'm going to correct people who are wrong about how they are explaining thing to others. Especially considering thousands of people are being exposed to bad information.
@Kashaan94 It doesn't matter how you want to put the origin of Halloween really. The bible speaks against all aspects of the things done and shown on Halloween. Halloween could've started with a bunch of cutesy kids playing dress up. Point is, regardless of what it might have been in the past, Halloween today holds nothing that the Lord God would approve of. :)
@BraRai95 What does the opinion of a character in a book matter?
History, real history, matters. If people could just make up stories and claim it was history, then things would be really screwed up. Fine, you don't care about history because you believe in a god that doesn't like it... but you haven't given any valid reasons why I shouldn't correct bad information.
@Kashaan94 Oh silly person. The title of the video clearly says what should CHRISTIANS do.So this video is for believers who are unsure of what to do. It doesn't say EVERYONE. Of course if you don't believe in the bible nor God nor nothing of this, then none of this applies to you.He wasn't trying to convince you of God or Jesus, he was speaking to those who already believe. So what I was telling you is that us believers don't need the info of the past. What we have today is not acceptable to us.
@BraRai95 I don't care who the question was aimed at... bad information is bad information and should be corrected.
But to that topic, Halloween today is nothing more than a consumer holiday. So unless you have something against kids eating candy, I don't see how it would or should be unacceptable to Christians. Hell, the Christian church was the main pusher of the non-religious form of it to try and reduce belief in the native religions.
@Kashaan94 When Halloween comes on, it's all about horror, monster, witches, witchcraft, the undead, scaring people etc. Sure a child with no understanding wants to just put on a cute costume and get candy. Everything else about Halloween projects ungodly, demonic and/or satanic things. What ever "Christian church" you speak of that (if I'm understanding you correctly) made Halloween what it is today, is not a true Christian church and shouldn't be looked at as an example.
Christians shouldn't participate in life. its the most bullshit belief ive ever heard, theres no logic. its a fucking book for fucks sake, anyone can write a book and that puts it in the same boat as a fucking goosebumps book. fuck your religion you idiot and open your mind. religion needs to be ditched, you have no proof of any speech from the bible so fuck you. religion was made in medieval times, times where superstition was huge. religion is plain BULLSHIT
@iWentToNam no logic? haha of course there's no logic in a book you haven't read you imbecile! religion was made in medieval times?! haha you really are as dumb as you sound. maybe you should go do a bit of reading before you come on here like a dickhead bad-mouthing a religion you know nothing about! That of course is if you have that intellectual capability......you probjably haven't even finish high school you ignorant tip rat
@iWentToNam Why bash religion because it doesn't agree with you? why do we need to in your words "open our mind" you have your beliefs we have ours that's pretty fair
@iWentToNam What has this man done to hurt you? There is absolutely no need to get worked up over someone you don't even know. We all have freedom to say how we feel, but there isn't a reason for you to be so rude just because you diasgree with him. Ok so you don't believe in religion, but if you want to voice that opinion then atleast be more respectful before you say harsh things. Making all these acusations and using profanity doesn't help you prove a point, it just makes you sound ingnorant.
@RolipoliOliLoveMusic I'm actually a woman, I dont get offended easily its okay. (that is if you are referring to the comment under mine if not please disregard)
@iWentToNam Religion is somewhat bullshit yes but there is no need to angry over it. I for one am athiest and no it wasnt made up in midevil times it was re-written in midevil times. So for all we know religion could be true but not to the extent of what people take it today.
@WeAreKrazzy I was once an Atheists a couple of months ago. But now I am preaching on how Jesus Christ saved me. I love him and if he could save someone like me he can save anyone especially you my friend.
Thank you for posting this video i was unsure how to feel about halloween as a Christian, i didnt not participate this year and saw this after the fact but i am glad that i did not, im so thankful that you backed up what you said with scripture. God bless you.
@iWentToNam haha of course there's no logic in a book you haven't read you imbecile! religion was made in medieval times?! haha you really are as dumb as you sound. maybe you should go do a bit of reading before you come on here like a dickhead bad-mouthing a religion you know nothing about! That of course is if you have that intellectual capability......you probjably never even finished high school you ignorant tip rat
@iWentToNam Christianity is not a religion its a personal relationship with Jesus.Based on your comment I do not believe that I am the one that needs to open my mind, if you think so lowly of christianity why waste your time commenting? All I know that is very clear is Jesus Christ died on the cross for God to forgive us of our sin,to save of us from the pain, misery, and destruction that is this world, and I dont know about you, but I dont know very many strangers that are willing to die for me.
Christianity (from the Ancient Greek word Χριστός, Khristos, "Christ", literally "anointed one") is a monotheistic religion[1] based on the life and teachings of Jesus as presented in canonical gospels and other New Testament writings.
@OwNeD05 Religion :a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe.
So you want to call it a religion by all means,we disagree, its part of life. but when i say its a personal relationship, i mean it, and thats what I have with Jesus. All I can tell you is what he has done in my life and how he changed me. And your right Jesus is the annointed one, He died to bring us life, but he resurrected and speaks through the holy spirt, how many other Gods did that?
@OwNeD05 Actually Jesus is Gods son, so in a way yes God in human form, but Jesus did not kill himself, we killed him, human beings that is, the same people who did not want to hear what he wanted to say who did not want to receive salvation those people who wanted to live in sin and keep what this world had to offer. And you know in the bible it says "there is no greater man than he who would lay down his life for his friends" well Jesus laid down his life for strangers, he didnt even know us.
I have listened to this video repeatedly to make sure I have understood the message I think you are trying to convey. From what I understand the Celtic holiday was started because the Celtics where afraid of evil spirits. Their belief from, what you have said, is that the dead would be roaming the earth seeking persons to posess. Therefore they dressed in scary costumes to avoid any evil possession. I'm unclear as to why Christians would not support such a tradition.
@cdwhalen1 The Catholic Church has done quite a few questionable things in the past. They called themselve "Christians" and yet did things like torture and massacre supposedly in the name of God. This is why I do not usually say "I'm a Christian" I usually word it as "I'm a follower of Christ" or of Jesus. Because if we are not trying to live by his words and example everyday, then we have no right to call ourselves his people.
@1christianGal That's true, but there's too much Liberalism in the "christian" community today. People need to realize that you cannot hang out with sin in public, and make an event out of it, and still call yourself a "Christian"..
Christian Rock? Christian pork? Christian party? Christian crystal meth? Christian porn?
We try to approach people by bringing God to them, instead of bringing them to God. People need something new, not just to add the adjective "christian".
Mark, Thank you for following the Holy Spirit's urging and making this video. I (and my family) too were those Christians that saw not much issue with Halloween as. long as we didn't personally give any credence to the demonic and just have fun with it. We realize now that nothing could be further from the Truth. We realize now that by participating in a pagan holiday we are unwittingly helping the devil. Your video will help drive this point home to my Sunday school students.
@stevespra1 No more true of an example of hearing the Truth, and then knowing it, has ever been said :-D I've been unsure about how to look at these kinds of things too, but this video put alot of perspective on it for me and others I shared it with. God Bless Ya :-D
Eastern Orthodox churches were excommunicated by Rome in 1054AD. The East/West Schism slowly divided east and west after Constantine became the 1st non-catholic Christian Emperor of Rome in 306AD and had Constantinople named as "the new Rome". The 1st use of the word Catholic was by St. Ignatius of Antioch in 110AD in his letter to Smyrna. He is known as one of the fathers of the church of Rome. Catholic became formal with Rome by the fall of the empire in the 4th century and Constantine.
@48lilyofthevalley Actually if you look at the history of Christianity, in the beginning there only was 1 unified church. This was the Orthodox church which split into Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy in 451 AD (at the council of Chalcedon) over disagreements of church dogma. The Catholic church didn't even come into existance (or at least as it is currently known) until 1054 AD, when the roman church split away from the Eastern Orthodox church. So in effect, it is the newest of the old churches.
@48lilyofthevalley Also, in response to your other point, the first Pope that ever existed was actually that of the Coptic Orthoox Church of Egypt. At this time he was the most influential of the 5 church patriarchs (the others being in Antioch, Jerusalem, Rome and Constantinople), and it wasn't until 700 years later that the Romans sought permission from the Alexandrian pope to use the title for their patriarch. It was/is an honourary title meaning 'father', given to the head of the church.
@b111gbo1 Pope in English means a leader of a Papacy. The Coptics may have had a Patriarch commonly called Papa or father but they never established a Papacy-Which meant infallibility and being able to make decisions on church dogma individually. Anyway the only reason I brought all this up was because the video fails in the first minute when he claims that the Church influenced the Halloween celebration. This is total BS. The Celts themselves simply hung onto their traditions till today.
A brilliant explanation of the roots & origins of Halloween. As a Christian I don't allow my children to participate in Halloween, for the reasons you state in your video. Whilst most people see it as a bit of harmless fun, the occult is something that as Christians we need to take seriously. Also on a more basic level, I think the whole idea of demanding a 'treat' from people, utterly wrong.
My family is Christian and we were discouraged from participating in Halloween as my mum did not wish us to go parading around dressed up as witches etc.
But this isn't really seen as unusual in my community as I live in Australia where even though halloween is very popular, it isn't to the extremity of America and so its more common to see families deciding not to participate. Another factor is my Korean heritage- you don't really see Asians going around trick or treating here lol
If you are completely faithful to your god and think that you are being a good christian by not taking part in halloween, then why for one second would you be worried about social norms and being criticized by others? Has reason and fact planted doubt about your faith in your mind?....
I completely understand what you are saying. Personally, I am a devout Christian who has grown up in a family that is strictly committed to God. My younger brother and sisters did participate in Halloween this year however and yet, they weren't desensitized to witches, ghouls and zombies - because these things don't exist. To them, it was an opportunity to dress up as a fictional scary character and 'trick or treat'. Now, most definitely, this is not the right/proper way of celebrating Hallowee
God Bless. Well said, its plain truth as plain as the nose on your face. Halloween is a pagan ritual from evil roots its completely offensive to God in every aspect. If you are living in the wilderness far from the grace of God you won't see anything wrong with Halloween but if you have an ounce of grace you will agree that it resembles nothing good, nothing pure and is far from acceptable to God. If you are not sure than you are confused and with honest prayer and thought you will agree.
You are free, for that matter, to Google everything I said. You will soon find that my info is not self-created. I am not blaming. History stands on its own and cannot be altered.
The bishop of Rome is another name for a pope: as is vicar of Rome, holy father, supreme pontiff, governor of the world, shepherd of the universal faith, the rock, and many more. Google it yourself. Orthodoxy was a part of the Roman church until it was excommunicated from Rome by pope Leo IX in the 11th century. Google that. Christians follow God and His word, not society. That is from the Bible. Pagans had no power over Rome. Rome was the governing body of almost all of Europe. Who said blame?
@48lilyofthevalley I have a better idea why don't you go read Byzantine Society and Culture by Warren Treadgold or Byzantium by Vasiliev. I repeat again, the Bishop of Rome was not the same as the Pope! The once unified Katholik church of the Roman Empire = Greek Orthodoxy. The reason that Orthodoxy exists is because they refused to change the Creed or anything to accommodate the emerging Papacy. The once Katholik church is represented by the Byzantine/Greek Orthodox faith, not RC or Papacy.
The unfortunate truth is that all of our so called Christian holidays were a result of Roman assimilation and renaming of pagan celebrations in order to be the dominant power with a "universal" church. Katholikos is the Greek name for the Catholic church that was chosen to perpetuate the Roman empire. Its translation literally means universal and mass is derived from Latin "missa" which means dismissal. The Romans are also responsible for changing the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday.
Hey. Thanks for that. I have one question though. Christmas now a days people buy their trees and stuff. But that was also a evil tradition that a European culture had to chase away vampires and ghost.
The true date of Jesus birth is not know to be on christmas therefore wouldn't be better yes to participate but only do in a right way. Where for Halloween you can give people candy. As that has no evil gesture to it. I agree with the dressing up part.
Jesus had a message that was grossly miss understood by all, in fact, by Christians most of all! the true essence of his teachings has nothing to do with who u think u are through religious fundamental ideas!!! The world is what u make of it including Halloween! If u see HW as evil, it's ur evil, if u see all religions as evil but ur own, then it's ur evil!! Truth is there if u want to find it...not found in books dictated by man ruled by his interpretations and historical stories that justify
@88Erank and Scottishcaledonian, You were there to see the dinosaurs evolve were you?! Evolution is still labeled a theory by scientists. A theory means a hypothesis which means it has NOT been proven. If you want to BELIEVE you were a monkey then go to it. Schizophrenia is not "craziness"; it is a set of symptoms caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Not all have hallucinations and those that do do not see "ghosts". Carbon dating is flawed. You prove your BELIEF to me! I'm sure you can't
@88Erank What I mean by "bad Guys" is people that are against Christ, and the enemy is satan. You have to believe that there is only one truth and I and many others have found that through Jesus Christ. The bible is not just a book about religion and rules of what to do and not to do. But it is a book of stories and it is focused on one story of love, when Jesus suffered the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.
O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allâh (Alone), and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allâh

HotpepperDr 1 month ago
Thank you Mark for not sitting on the fence on this topic. Halloween is also a religious day for those who practice witchcraft it's more than just getting dressed up in scary outfits to ward off the dead. It's more than a cultural event it's blatant utter evil. There is no way a person who claims to love and know God through his word and life of Jesus should be contemplating if this celebration is simply okay. We celebrate a risen Savior!

HotpepperDr 1 month ago
@HotpepperDr Im not sure what that has to do with what I said? plus Halloween started as a christen holiday not what he said it goes with jewish calened for harvest that pagens toke over. Sorry but his fact are wong anyways :P
XxHeavensXAnglexX 1 month ago
@XxHeavensXAnglexX Why is it that Christians minimize pagan or crazy celebrations? The simple fact is it's disturbing to get your children dressed up whether in cute or monstrous outfits threatening people that if they don't get a treat they will play a trick on someone. Since when is it normal for Christians to blend in to other crazy cultural ideas or celebrating a day for the dead. No wonder our faith is futile to non Christians we blend in instead of stepping out.

@HotpepperDr not really that reason its cuz there is absolute truth that we dont give paganism reliability.

@roserox1 Thanks for clarifying that., I have a bit more understanding now. What is your religion? Just out of interest. I wasn't aware anyone was calling a particular religion Evil.

That's all non-believers need to hear is one more thing you can't do if you are a Christian. Good intentioned "Christians" have done more to turn non-believers away from God than all the atheist that ever lived. Satan is doing a good job inside the church buildings.
Tickbryan 2 months ago
God can take a bad thing and make something good from it. How about handing out christian literature with the candy you give on Halloween? I'm sure most people that participate in Halloween have no evil intention what so ever. I say get involved and be a good witness, do something positive for Christ, don't crawl in a hole and pretend it doesn't exist. That's why churches provide an alternative to halloween.
Tickbryan 2 months ago
I see nothing wrong with a child dressing up as Sponge Bob Square Pants or some other harmless character on Halloween or whatever you want to call it. What if Christians dressed up as non evil characters and went door to door the day AFTER Halloween? Would that be considered contrary to the Christian faith? No that would be considered evangelizing.
Tickbryan 2 months ago
harsh words, but the truth is the truth.
What do you think about celebrating Christmas? i know a lot of people that don't believe in it at all.

Plan and simple I stop participating in Halloween 20 years ago because I grew in my faith for Christ I just felt it was disrespectful to him to participate in a Pegan Holiday. :-D
jazzionify 3 months ago

What aspect of that is against the Christian faith?
shaniferx 3 months ago
I have so many people who think Im taking away from my children by not allowing them to participate. I tell them that halloween is celebrating evil. It is very clear but for some reason so many people just can't get that. Even after I'm asked, and explain why, they still don't get it. The only things we allow, are for our children to have a cute costume for school for fun, and to go a few neighbors to get candy. They know we celebrate HARVEST but not HALLOWEEN! They completely understand it.
busymama15 3 months ago
[cont 2:] Also, one of the arguments against taking part is that it originated in pagan tradition. Unfortunately, this would also spill over into a lot of our traditions surrounding other religious holidays, such as dying Easter eggs, and Christmas. The Christmas tree, the wreath, the mistletoe, even the night on which we celebrate Christ's birth. Many Christians don't celebrate Santa, but I haven't heard of any that reject the rest of the fun and warmth of the season. Should we?
heatheracombs 3 months ago
[cont...] There are a few comments I'd like to make, just for food for thought. You mentioned that by participating in Halloween, we are desensitizing ourselves to evil, but earlier you said that the Celts dressed up as scary things because they genuinely believed that they were real and scary, [not because they were mocking evil, and saying it wasn't that bad]. Could we use the day as a teachable moment for our children, acknowledging evil and dressing as good?
heatheracombs 3 months ago
Thank you for your sermon. As a fairly recently born-again Christian, this topic continues to be a struggle for me as Halloween was one of my favourite childhood holidays. I have heard both sides, and feel perhaps more peer pressure from the church to not participate than I do from the world TO participate. I am trying to listen to the Holy Spirit's conviction, and not be controlled by fear that I sometimes feel is imaginary, or giving Satan too much power over us.

BraRai95 3 months ago
@BraRai95 I don't care who the question was aimed at... bad information is bad information and should be corrected.
But to that topic, Halloween today is nothing more than a consumer holiday. So unless you have something against kids eating candy, I don't see how it would or should be unacceptable to Christians. Hell, the Christian church was the main pusher of the non-religious form of it to try and reduce belief in the native religions.
Kashaan94 3 months ago

@colorican1213 "Christianity is not a religion...."

Christianity teaches that Jesus is God just in the human form. So according to the story, God killed himself.

I'm unclear as to why Christians would not support such a tradition.
cdwhalen1 4 months ago
@cdwhalen1 The Catholic Church has done quite a few questionable things in the past. They called themselve "Christians" and yet did things like torture and massacre supposedly in the name of God. This is why I do not usually say "I'm a Christian" I usually word it as "I'm a follower of Christ" or of Jesus. Because if we are not trying to live by his words and example everyday, then we have no right to call ourselves his people.
HerLion11388 4 months ago
@1christianGal That's true, but there's too much Liberalism in the "christian" community today. People need to realize that you cannot hang out with sin in public, and make an event out of it, and still call yourself a "Christian"..
Christian Rock? Christian pork? Christian party? Christian crystal meth? Christian porn?
We try to approach people by bringing God to them, instead of bringing them to God. People need something new, not just to add the adjective "christian".
MixyBoy 4 months ago
Mark, Thank you for following the Holy Spirit's urging and making this video. I (and my family) too were those Christians that saw not much issue with Halloween as. long as we didn't personally give any credence to the demonic and just have fun with it. We realize now that nothing could be further from the Truth. We realize now that by participating in a pagan holiday we are unwittingly helping the devil. Your video will help drive this point home to my Sunday school students.

48lilyofthevalley 4 months ago
@48lilyofthevalley Actually if you look at the history of Christianity, in the beginning there only was 1 unified church. This was the Orthodox church which split into Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy in 451 AD (at the council of Chalcedon) over disagreements of church dogma. The Catholic church didn't even come into existance (or at least as it is currently known) until 1054 AD, when the roman church split away from the Eastern Orthodox church. So in effect, it is the newest of the old churches.
b111gbo1 4 months ago
@48lilyofthevalley Also, in response to your other point, the first Pope that ever existed was actually that of the Coptic Orthoox Church of Egypt. At this time he was the most influential of the 5 church patriarchs (the others being in Antioch, Jerusalem, Rome and Constantinople), and it wasn't until 700 years later that the Romans sought permission from the Alexandrian pope to use the title for their patriarch. It was/is an honourary title meaning 'father', given to the head of the church.
b111gbo1 4 months ago

Also on a more basic level, I think the whole idea of demanding a 'treat' from people, utterly wrong.
sbickers1 4 months ago
My family is Christian and we were discouraged from participating in Halloween as my mum did not wish us to go parading around dressed up as witches etc.
But this isn't really seen as unusual in my community as I live in Australia where even though halloween is very popular, it isn't to the extremity of America and so its more common to see families deciding not to participate. Another factor is my Korean heritage- you don't really see Asians going around trick or treating here lol

If you are completely faithful to your god and think that you are being a good christian by not taking part in halloween, then why for one second would you be worried about social norms and being criticized by others? Has reason and fact planted doubt about your faith in your mind?....
biglangsta 4 months ago
I completely understand what you are saying. Personally, I am a devout Christian who has grown up in a family that is strictly committed to God. My younger brother and sisters did participate in Halloween this year however and yet, they weren't desensitized to witches, ghouls and zombies - because these things don't exist. To them, it was an opportunity to dress up as a fictional scary character and 'trick or treat'. Now, most definitely, this is not the right/proper way of celebrating Hallowee
charbzz100 4 months ago

48lilyofthevalley 4 months ago
@48lilyofthevalley I have a better idea why don't you go read Byzantine Society and Culture by Warren Treadgold or Byzantium by Vasiliev. I repeat again, the Bishop of Rome was not the same as the Pope! The once unified Katholik church of the Roman Empire = Greek Orthodoxy. The reason that Orthodoxy exists is because they refused to change the Creed or anything to accommodate the emerging Papacy. The once Katholik church is represented by the Byzantine/Greek Orthodox faith, not RC or Papacy.
Ephestion1 4 months ago

But the same then should be done for Chri

48lilyofthevalley 4 months ago
@88Erank What I mean by "bad Guys" is people that are against Christ, and the enemy is satan. You have to believe that there is only one truth and I and many others have found that through Jesus Christ. The bible is not just a book about religion and rules of what to do and not to do. But it is a book of stories and it is focused on one story of love, when Jesus suffered the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.
