my reason for choosing ATI over nVidia: less power consumption for equal if not MORE graphic power. I couldn't afford to get a whole new power supply when i was looking for a new card a few months ago. i ended up getting an ati hd 5770 for its lower power consumption and it outperforms any nvidia card out there ( at the time). it was cheaper too.

Your processors bottle necking it a bit, but your graphics card and memory are more than sufficient. On gamer settings you wil get hi fps, you mite even get a decent framerate on enthusiast (very high)

this may be a retarded queistion but here i go, i have an i7 920, an asus p6t deluxe v2 and all the rest... but i have not yet chosena gpu, will it be possible for me to run 2 4870x2 's in quad crossfire, or even 1 4870x and a normal 4870? does that work?

Depends on the game engine so these comparisons are pointless. Personally I like the simplicity of NVidia as I like the app more than the ATI version which is annoying. But the 4870x2 does make my games look better than my 295 did before it decided to fail on me. The edge detect anti aliasing and better mehtod for tranparency on ATI mean it wins for me because you can actually use all the features to enhance the game. I couldnt do that with my Nvidia 295 or the 280 I had before it

I can run it also with all settings on Ultra high with my gtx295 i think the gtx295 is faster than the 4870x2

Its faster then the 4870x2 but not worth the extra 300 dollars. specialy since DX11 and a whole new line of cards are coming out this summer

the 4870x2 will wipe out the gtx295 at high res like 1920x1200 or 2560x1600 etc... But GTX wins at lower resolutions. Thats the difference.

its not faster...if you play at anti alazing x8 4870x2 is faster ;).if you play at anti alazing x4 x2 or no anti alazing gtx295 is faster...

Yeah the 260s would be the way to go, and you don't the Fission reactor as mentioned by Flak. Also, the drivers for the 260s are more mature and you may receive better performance.

lol dont listen to them 2 4870x2 should be able to handle anything coming out and you might need a 1000W or 1200 W power suply (depending on everythingelse) but id say its worth it because a 4870x2 is 2 times beter then a 260 and 2 x2s are 4 times beter xD unbeatable. and keep in mind that crysis is spetialy maid for nividia (prolly cuz they paid them to) so if you want real perforamce id go with the 2 4870x2

what's your cpu? You should get way higher than that with a 4870x2. Unless the hacked "Ultra High" settings don't optimize fps very well. Please respond in-depth because i'm considering 2 4870x2's (price is no object) and want to know whether i'm better off in things like L4D, Stalker Clear Sky, And Crysis using two of these, or 3 GTX 280's.

dx9 was the best directx version ever, thats why it lasted so long. everyone knows that the "dx10" features in crysis are actually dx9 effects ported to dx10 and only allowed to run in dx10 to sell vista cause crytek is a greedy microsoft serving asshole. and that explains why you can simply unlock all the magical dx10 stuff in dx9 by changing a few numbers in the config

I highly doubt it. If I did I would need to get an Intel board (X38, X48 or P45), as at the moment I am using a 780i since I previously had two 8800GT's in SLi. I would also need to purchase a new PSU for the cards. Overall it would cost a lot, I would rather just use this and get the next best card.
