@decemberbenjamin youtube is doing its best to disguise the much better version with remastered audio: put "Kissin Strauss remastered" into the search :)
Kissin plays this masterfully, however the piece of music itself does not move me in any way. I wouldn't learn or play this piece if someone forced me to, Kissin however makes it somewhat bearable to listen to. Compared to "La Campanella" this piece of music is very bland. Kissin's playing on the other hand is very good :)
@Velo222able If Kissin were a good pianist, it would not sound as bland as indeed it does. The artist shows in being able to move you with banal material. Everybody can make Beethoven, Liszt or Wagner sound impressive, even a mechanically drilled wonder-child without brain or heart.
That's how I feel. It's one of those things people keep repeating, and each time I am astounded at the positive reception. It's the mindset of a child to behave like that or endorse that kind of behavior, though. I remember not too long ago in middle school, everyone would flock to school and repeat jokes from whatever comedy show was big at the time, Simpsons, Southpark, or whatever. I hated that behavior even then.
Kissin is without doubt a genius of the highest calibre. Few living pianists have the repertoire and the musicality that kissin posseses. His technique is flawless. He is a maestro and virtuoso in every facet of pianism. An extraordinary talent and individual!!!
He's got such a heavy sound yet it doesn't sound abrupt...I mean it doesn't come from nowhere. Instead, you can feel that passion and think that's the way it should go.
I hate modern society in terms of music. I just wish that there could be some way that I could just transform the world back to loving classical music. This man is an absolute genious.
I agree he's from a different planet. Obviously earthlings aren't supposed to do this. Maybe Neptunians can. His hair is a dead give away. Or maybe he's a robot that the Russians built - only computers and aliens are that accurate.
Kissin is even too good to be evaluated right... One can just try... E.g. precision: Kissin 10 of 10 points versus others 2 to 9 points. Feeling for the composer's soul and intention: Kissin 10 points, others 2 to 9 points. Power: Kissin 12 of 10 points versus others 1 to 5 points. A beautiful own mind: Kissin 10 points versus others -2 (Lang Lang) to 8 points. And so on, and so on, and so on. Kissin is simply not from this world. We must accept that... ;-)

ca faisait longtemps que j'avais pas entendu une interpretation aussi merveilleuse et drole , son jeu me fait penser à celui de cziffra...merci merci merci !! :))
Its something unique to him. Yet his playing isn't devoid of dynamics. I kinda like the "heavy'' sound. It gives a sort of force to his playing which wakes you up and forces you to listen. But thats just my opinion of course.
well it's more just heavy than in some significant areas. but yes, he could be more exciting with this type of playing, though still lacks the charm of other players. i think he has a better tone when he was younger as a prodigy. what do you think?
@libetta I dunno know about that but i do love his early renditions of Chopin. You should hear him playing Paganini variations which i believe he performs best.
Lang Lang is terrible, he has technique but waists it by ruining every piece he plays with the wrong tempo, terrible rubato, and completely screwed up dynamics.
BTW Kissin is Russian and is many, MANY times a far greater pianist than Lang Lang.
I'm a chinese, and I really do think that Evgeny Kissin is much better than Lang Lang in many aspects. (: and of course Kissin has real respect for the composers and the music he plays... somehow, that's lacking in Lang Lang's concerts - not that Lang Lang is horrible - but I think they're in different leagues. (: IMHO.
@TheSusieskk Why is it always a competition between these two?? Simple, they're practically equal in each of their musical prowess and technical skill. I would call Kissin the more mature one, and this piece is simply amazing...
Breathtakingly beautiful and joyous. Kissin's clarity of playing is unmatched, every one of the million notes is heard in its own special way. He misses nothing.
