  • The good old days

  • glad they left the hair doo's behind, the music is brilliant, wow Cold Chisel is legendry! not like the crap they play on the radio these days

  • Song sung by an New Zealander about his American friend and named after a mainly American battle and yet still so Australian.

Doesn't matter who you were serving, every line is spot on.

  • @emroac wtf? first of all Jimmy Barnes is scottish/australian second of all the song is written from the perspective of an aussie soldier coming home from Vietnam hence "the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone".

  • @ditroia its cuz people were pissed at the government because we had conscription to be part of a war that didn't affect our shores directly. It was a war that didn't need to happen but you can blame the guys who were involved only the government. Those men did what they had to do and they should be honoured for that

  • Nice song/vid....God Bless my Aussie friends !!!

  • vietnam vets = HEROES..god bless them

  • Aussie pride here.

  • Why is there so much hate?? This is not about you. Its about how awesome chisel are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i still love this country , does it matter what state u are from or what race you are :) life is too fucking short lol come on ppl does it really matter

  • Happy Australia Day <3

  • The trouble was Half the people shipped off to vietnam had no choice and were conscripted.

  • I have to come back to listen to this song to remind me of the land of OZ.

1993 5 months in Australia, the time of my life. I need be DRIFTING OFF, back.

  • @aerowayne4 @aerowayne4 No Australians use the terms Oz or the land of Oz - it just earmarks you as some foreigner trying hard to be cool. Well you're not, so stop it. Please do all your remembering from over there. Khe Sanh reminds me of how much we hate Americans, and why we hate them. Loud mouthed cowards. Left us for dead in 2 world wars until it affected them and we still go into bat for them. I'd step over 100 yanks to save one Brit. They know the meaning of camaraderie and loyalty.

  • @micktube64 First of all I am not from Australia.

You are full of hate, and you prove how much of a coward you are.

I bet you're not even Australian.

  • @micktube64 By the way youi know NOTHING about camaraderie and loyality,

  • @micktube64 Lol I bet your from Victoria or NSW Any man with balls lives In QLD or NT. And bro Galipoli remember that cock up lol I'm in the RAAF and just about to start conversion to superhornets and i can honestly say that only 1 of the 20 NSW or VIC assholes that started pilots course passed. Do you know why? Because there all over inflated egotistical assholes. Sydney is a dirty shitty place and Melbourne is full of Snobs at leasr Darwin and Toowoomba and Brisneyland have a nice culture.

  • Thx for all Comments, hope you got to see Chisel Live in 2011. Merry Christmas to all.

  • @Yoshirox151515 might just be ;)

  • @Yoshirox151515 yes

  • fuck this 240p shit cold chisel deserves 1080p

  • Salute to the brave men and women of the Vietcong

  • Jimmy's still great... unlike that tub Meatloaf, he sucks!

  • Hats off to our Vietnam vets. Unpopular war but our vets still did us proud. Proud to be an Aussie. Who gives a shit about the politics. Our soldiers still went and put there lives on the line and some lost there lives. Be proud of them. ANZAC legend ive on forever. And our fellow American soldiers. Soldiers dont give a shit about politics or PC crap. They do their duty!! Honour them

  • oh hell yeah !

  • love this song, & all the other songs by CC, was introduced to the music by clive & my aussy family, will be forever greatfull for that. you never here this band in the UK

  • Why did "Khe San" come up when i typed in "Australian National Anthem"?

  • @solty48 :)

  • @solty48 ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ME IT'S FRIGGIN NOT?

Have I been standing to attention to the wrong tune.....Shit, hate that. No wonder I've been getting the evil eye for so many years. Strewth!!!

Went to a concert so many years ago now, had the best time dancing is the aisle, came out after the show and couldn't hear for a few days. Couldn't hear family yelling at me....BONUS!!!!

    A great Aussie band.

  • @solty48 why did the australian anthem come up when i typed in khe sanh :S ?

  • Theyre touring in October/November for the first time in almost 30 years.. cant wait!!!

  • @rolfzzzz got my tickets to rod laver melbourne

  • ...Just me again; It's a damned fine song too! I never set foot in Viet Nam ( Thank God ) and I have utmost love and respect for them what did. Every death affects the soldier who has fought and none prays harder for Peace than the combat vet. But a song can't erase your horror, bring back yer buddies. It can remind you of those times--bad and good. Me, I'm just an indian-yer ALL whites and i thank you ALL/ Aussie & Yank! "It's a long way to the top if ya wanna sausage roll!".

  • ...HI, I'm from Lemont, Pennsylvania, USA. I pay my taxes, go to church, served my beloved Corps and support our troops. In my spare time, I'm tryin' to raise a family. Oh, and I love music-I believe it's the key to life. Being rich in Native American blood, they used to call me Chief, I hated it but what can you do? I've always wondered why everybody hated my country. The white man must 've liked it cuz they stole it. Reading over these comments has shed some light on that for me! It's a song!

  • i hit some Hong Kong mattress last night....still good ! thanks for the heads up Jim Hahaha

  • My Great uncle did two tours of 'nam from aussie, not sure if this applies as i was born in 1989, i now live in Canada at the moment, but this always stays close to home!....the heart!

  • Greatest song ever!!

  • Never forget, I was the Kevin Rudds, Jullia Gilards and Carmen Lanwrences of this world that spat on our boys and threw fruit at them... the Unions refused to load their resupply ships ... if you dont believe it go and check it out .. the ALP are the greatest mob of scumbags this country ever seen.... DONT forget those 3 hero's from 4 RAR who are being persecuted under the auspices of a Labour govt for defending themselves in Afghanistan... !!! WHERE IS THE RAGE????

  • Never forget, I was the Kevin Rudds, Jullia Gilards and Carmen Lanwrences of this world that spat on our boys and threw fruit at them... the Unions refused to load their resupply ships ... if you dont believe it go and check it out .. the ALP are the greatest mob of scumbags this country ever seen.... DONT forget those 3 hero's who are being persecuted under the auspices of a Labour govt for their actions in Afghanistan... Gillard could release them tommorrow if she wanted too!!!

  • .. and I actually live in Vietnam now.. lots of US and Aus vets here... havent been to Kha Sanh... but went to Long Tan.. very very moving.

  • Wow, so nice to hear that someone from the USMC liked this song... come the revolution this will be our national anthem...

  • @LatsNiebling Cunnoath. Even if we have to utilise Adam Hills version for while.

  • Best song ever im proud to be Aussie

  • THIS should be our National Anthem

  • Awesome a true legendary aussie song

  • love this song

but... 2:08 did he say anus?!?!?!

  • @krispykreme48 Aimless.

  • @krispykreme48 aimless lol

  • as relevant now for our guys over in the middle east. Stay safe boys and girls.

  • 2 dislikes??? this music is one of the fine example of aussie talent

  • wtf 2 dislikes, they dont know good music when they see or hear it

  • legends !!!!!!!!

  • Bravo to Cold Chisel for saying what needed to be said.

  • My Dad sailed into Sydney Harbour from Vietnam, the bastards threw rotting fruit at him I was 6 years old remember it like yesterday, If I was old enough I would have ripped there fucking heads off.

  • @mysticphoebos

Did australia have a draft for vietnam? If not, and he volunteered for that imperialist slaughterfest, just deal with it, 5 million people got snuffed, im sure the fruit didn't hurt him much.

  • @Ortheos2006, I have dealt with it mate, the words say "there were no V-Day heros in 1973" I can vouch for that matey that was my point, your Imperial stuff oh yeah you got no bigger fans than the ones who were used and killed so get off your hippy horse mate and smoke another cone.

  • @Ortheos2006 yes a large proportion of Australians sent over were conscripted, but I hope I don't particularly offend you by saying that those who volunteered did so out of a desire to help the situation because, oh I don't know, they actually have heart and soul? Maybe a lot of atrocities occurred during the war, but the true evil and absence of humanity was shown by the self righteous, hypocritical folk like yourself who snubbed the existence of men and women braver than themselves.

  • @McElleryBear94

If they were really brave and righteous they would have joined with the vietnamese majority and fought against the American agressors.

  • @Ortheos2006

What on earth is your problem? Sure you may not agree with the war, but these men have suffered enormous amounts of pain, many of whom having life long psychological problems. It was bad enough that they were disowned when they arrived back home, but for people like you to post uneducated slander is simply appalling. If you want to make a statement, direct it against the leaders who send these young men to fight, not those who were simply doing what they thought right.

  • @mysticphoebos

That sounds like something your dad did in vietnam. Like daddy like son.

  • @Ortheos2006 LOL, another Woodstock Vet?

Left the cone alone long enough to type a coherant sentence have we?

  • @mysticphoebos similar things happened here in America my friend, but attitudes toward the armed forces and vets changed dramatically after 9/11.Today,most of the people who oppose the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are careful not to revile the troops.Only the lunatic fringe does that.I have actually had a few people thank me for my service recently.Welcome, even if it is 40 odd years late.I hope attitudes have improved in Australia as well.

  • @mysticphoebos

this makes me want to hug the little boy ... and his old man ... xxx

  • @mysticphoebos

    That makes me cry

  • @Arcusinoz uraban myth lol are you serious ..the viet nam vets including aussie SAS boys got ribbed by the WW1 and WW2 vets because they claimed it was not a war it was garbage, that was told be an EX SAS officer when he returened and went to the first RSL meeting ..he got gutted by the old timers ..the vietnam vets were shamed by the media and a vast majority belived it ..the vietnam vets deserve our thanks all the time because the poor buggers never got it when they got home

  • @toddskisyd some of the country RSL's, supported Vietnam vets on their return. unfortunately they where too few. Korean vets also get over looked.

  • @toddskisyd Some of them got Spit on when they came back :(

  • @ditroia They were my heros know and when I was a kid, I am 53 years old know.

  • @mysticphoebos stupid hippy cock suckers, i hope they go to hell for what they did to your old man!

  • @mysticphoebos Mate a lot of dickheads made fools of themselves when they would have run a mile if they had been told to go. Your Dad did a tough job in a difficult place. He did us all proud, what we hope for is the Diggers coming back from "the sand" don't get the same treatment, but everyone's respect. Semper Fi

  • @mysticphoebos fuck those politically correct hippies, go see what the world b4 u go throw fruit!

  • @mysticphoebos I was there during that time, was so scared for the soldiers watching all the news clips on the tv. The guys were treated so badly by the people and govt of the time and yet so many had no choice if their number came up.

I had friends who would not talk about their experiences and hid the fact they were Viet Vets..

Thank you to your dad and am glad he came back, hopefully healthy and not too traumatized.

My partner was a Nasho but he missed out going to Vietnam by 6 months.

  • @mysticphoebos that's when I quit the antiwar movement. Your dad did not deserve that. Thank him for defending us all. The right/wrong of the war had nothing to do with his sacrifice. Don't hate it just wastes your time

  • @mysticphoebos A sad memory bro , but never forget it , peace to your heart , these lefties often exhibit the behaviour they oppose in such disgraceful ways.. Ignorance is justice for some.

  • @mysticphoebos why is this not the top comment + how damn true...

  • @Chreeq So it's not justified to kill someone who is trying to kill/maim/torture/harm your own loved ones? You'd just let them die and be selfishly worried more about protecting your own soul/conscience/morality? A lot of good you are.

  • I agree this is ace. Everyone loves it.

  • chreeq are u even australian?

  • DOWN WITH TV SHOWS SEEPING SHIT HOUSE POP STARS, UP WITH PUBS FEEDING THE INDUSTRY WITH QUALITY MUSIC

  • doesn't move much. no stage presence.

  • @Kalhari WTF?

  • @Kalhari . barnesy was by this stage of the show on his 3rd bottle of vodka. stage presence bah ha blaaaa. This is chisel at their best.

  • Enjoy the song, it's a nice tune.

Vietnam itself is a disgrace, a huge stain, as usual puppet australia followed it's master into another flop of a conflict as we've done in iraq and afghanistan. Better get used to defeat if were gonna follow a loser around I guess.

  • @Ortheos2006 take a look at your self mate no australian has the right to say that those diggers died for a cause as there fighting for in afgan right now you have no right you should take a look at yourself before ever saying that again you say that to a vet or a digger find out what happens its you people that dont deserve to be australian support our diggers and dont you ever say that again keep your Opinions to yourself mate

  • @armymanaus23

Afghanistan is disgrace number 2. We have no business being there. I'm not talking about our troops, they're just doing their job, I'm talking about the actual act of being in yet another losing conflict.

  • @armymanaus23

Try using grammar. Full stops and commas come in handy. Take a breath. Comments are here for expressing opinion. Don't get worked up so much over opinion. You may spout any opinion you like. It's jingoistic nationalists like yourself who have no business being Australian.

  • @Ortheos2006 Doesn't matter what the reason for war, no one ever wins but those who fight deserve respect, they are doing their jobs. Until you have been in a situation like that you have no business judging them. the reason for Vietnam was bollocks, the soldiers were real, peoples sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers. Respect those who defend your nation even when your leaders send them to places for no good reason.

  • @Nedlamar

I have been in such a situation. In fact, on both ends, as civilian confronting trooops and as a man with a gun confornting civilians.

  • @Ortheos2006 Trust you are at peace with yourself.

  • @Nedlamar you've got to be kidding.

There is no reason to have any respect to anyone who murders people. Not if they do it because they believe in some kind of spiritual force nor if a "country" tells them to.

It is NEVER justified to kill anyone. And especially not for soldiers who get paid for putting their consciousness away.

Not even to mention that the afgahn war is nothing more but a huge waste of money and ressources.

  • @Chreeq r u even Australian.

  • @beady01 never mind Australian.I want to know to know what planet this jerk lives on.Pacifisim is a luxury purchased by the blood of warriors.

  • @Chreeq its not justifying anything its a song about it.,and what it does to people who go through it.if anything its an anti war song.

  • ... Why folks have to "F" up a great band playing a great song with all of their ignorant comments is beyond me ??? Super redbush whoever you are you should be ashamed!!! I've always admired the Aussie spunk but you ... WTF ??? ... and I'm a Vietnam Vet currently on duty in the Middle East ... and yes I'm a "yank"! Chisel forever !!!

  • Why the song wasn't Long Tan instead I cant fathom, since that was the most significant battle Australia fought in Vietnam. Maybe an american should write one intstead, in which an american soldier comes in and single-handedly Rambo style kills everyone and wins the battle.

  • is he using a beer glass as a slide? what a hero

  • its like born in the usa by bruce springsteen

  • love this song!

  • this is the best and most honest aussie song of all time, it should b the anthem and yes every person applying for aussie citizenship should know the words to this.

    Go BARNSEY!!!

  • if i good give this more than one thumbs up i wud

  • not all australia was from convicts all the the other states were free states and we did fight in the vietnam war so to all u fucking wankers from the usa and other countrys who have no idea about australia get ya facts right before u comment on my country u fucking cock suckers.............

  • Look, I've drank lots of beer and 2 tons of vodka listening to this song, it's the best. I know i'm not by myself as far as vietnam veterans listening to this, it's the life we lived. Khe Sanh and When the War is over are my 2 favorite songs. We love it here in the USA. Thank You Cold Chisel!!!

    John Myers

    USMC Scout/Sniper

    Khe Sanh 67-68

  • @2313441john Good onya bloke. We love chisel here, and all those who serve for our way of life.

  • @2313441john Thanks mate!

  • my pop went to vietam

  • @zarehp666 after they drank a case of beer and a bottle of vodka come on it is the chisel

  • @tholtguitar I thought the band drank the bottle of beer & Barnsey drank the case of Vodka. CHISEL still ROCK!

  • great song!!!

  • love this song its awesome

  • lol yeah check out barnesy's long hair and much smoother voice. god i love this song!

  • lmao> Barnsey with his long 'locks'....how many times have stood at the front catching your sweat? I hope it never ceases!

  • khe san, much discussed here, but even the chisels were too young to have been in it, however they sang of the feelings about it when it was contentious to speak of it in oz, in the 70's and 80's, it was like no way to talk about it for years in oz coz it was so embarrassig for all it was a complete waste of lives and sanity...

  • MidianFire, I am an Australian citizen (one of those in which you label "descendants of prostitutes and criminals, of which founded Australia"). Your retaliations to others comments are weak and are representative of your mental in capacities. I find you very inconsiderate lacking self restraint. Please research before you make inaccurate statements. Australia was involved in the war in which Jimmy Barnes has written a song about. However I do not imagine that you would understand.

  • @ MidianFire - (and I am paraphrasing from Wikipedia, so please don't think of me as an expert on the topic) Although the Battle of Khe Sanh was mostly fought between US Marines and the North Vietnamese Army, there were Australian personnel that were directly involved in the siege. Particularly, the crews of Canberra bombers operated by 2 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, who flew close air support missions in the area.

  • u tell him mate :D:D:D:D aussie is a proud country!

  • @MidianFire you just wouldn't understand son.

  • man your a fucking dick .... go shove a your dads D*** up your ass while u have orgasms over it u fag! AUSSIE ROCKS!

  • what do u mean by that??? :P

  • @MidianFire Fuck you bitch, Australia's the shit. Just cos you live in some hobo-town somewhere doesnt mean we're trash. go get a fucking life aye.

  • @E1m0L0ver what planet are ytou from>?????

  • @MidianFire i swear you don't have a clue about Australia. the South Australian colony was not founded by convicts. it was one of the first states in Australia not to founded by the convicts. as for the wars. in WW1 1 the ANZACs were the main reason for the allied victory taking towns and poits the the english and the french failed to take. i WW2 we held Tobruk from Rommel and were the first defeated the Japanese. i don't think the english would have been able to achieve those things

  • Proud of our ancestors, from UK and every other part of the globe

WHER THE F # @* are you from?

I know Cee yoU Next Tuesday

  • I think you misunderstood the song. The song isn't about the battle of Khe Sanh at all. It's about struggling through life after being involved in the Vietnam War, which Australian soldiers were. The only reference to Khe Sanh is "I left my heart to the sappers round Khe Sanh", so the soldier never professes to have fought in it.

  • @MidianFire America is a lot like Australia descended from so called trash from all over the world. All I can say is THANK GOD for the worlds trash. The truth of the matter you can't even come close to this kind of trash. Your just a YOURAPEEON MORON..

  • @MidianFire we were in that war u fucking wanker my dad was there u dick so get ya facts right before commenting on shit u no fuck all about......australia has more going for it than the usa.......that was settled by the british aswell u cock sucker

  • @MidianFire u fucking wanker

  • @MidianFire now thats bull shit we were there i was with the australian s.a.s u cock get ye facts straight....son

  • @SuperRedbush you should try reading my comments before you reply, I never said Australia wasn't in Vietnam I said that no Australian troops participated in the battle of Khe Sanh, which is what the whole fucking song is about dickhead, so neither you, your faggot father, or any of your cock-sucking coward fuck australian S.A.S were at Khe Sanh

  • @MidianFire wat the fuck u retarded yank u cunts never won a battle i ya life i love hearing about all the yanks in the middle east getting fucked up a good yank is a dead yank...........

  • Comment removed

  • " o I worked across the country end to end

  • @frans1012 coz its a old song

  • Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi!

  • 100% Aussie pride,Great song by a top band, LOVE IT & LOVE THE BAND, LEGENDS !!

  • Anyone who wants to be an Australian citizen has to sing every word of this song correctly to get their citizenship : )

  • Bloody Oath!

  • I wish that was the only criterion...I'd pass!!!

  • totally agree.. and i cant believe kevin07 got rid of the question about Sir Donald Bradman.. our finest Batsman, whos record still stands today

  • @addyshinobi what does that question have to do with becoming an Australian citizen. you wouldn't expect anyone from Japan to know the Answer on anyone from Indonesia to know it as well. the questions should Really focus on 3 main areas. the first is English, the next is Maths and last is Computer work. there is no need to have things like sports which other wouldn't have a clue about

  • @zarehp666 Nah they should just WANT TO!

  • @zarehp666

This song sound suspiciously American. But I guess it is his style.

  • @zarehp666 So true!

  • @zarehp666 never truer words spoken!

  • @zarehp666 and be holding a bundy and coke :)
