It was the girl on stage singing (or as the case was, lip-syncing) the Chinese anthem; and I was immediately taken by the scene. The fireworks weren't fake...they showed the backup prerecorded fireworks in case the weather didn't cooperate during the live performance...common sense. Bet they had a plan C, D and E too. It sounds like they might have switched because the singer had bad stage presence (stage fright/ awkwardness performing for large crowds.) If this is the case then I don't personally agree with the decision, but I accept it.
If China only put the lip-syncing girl up purely because she was cuter then I think that's horrible.

The problem isn't whether it's fake or not - the band at the inauguration made the recording themselves, while in this case the recording was made by a completely different little girl. It's not fair for either girl - I would find it much more acceptable if it were lip-synced but sang by the same girl who showed up or vice versa.

The explosions started before the planes ever hit. A third building fell down, not even hit by a plane and not close enough to be damaged by the "plane" crash.
