Sorry, but I don't like Horrowitz at this sonata in b minor. True it has diabolic of Liszt. I dislike the tempo. It's not very regular. Check out Pogorelich or Zimerman they both are incredible at this sonata!
I've listened to this recording since it came out.. just amazing.
2 months ago I found the record for this at an independent music store in San Francisco... paid 3 bucks for it. I paid 3 dollars for pure gold. Seriously.
It's so easy to see why this is the staple recording for this composition.. just amazing.
The only other recording of this Sonata which rivals this as the "definitive" recording, would be Cziffra's from 1968, imo. Although, Evgeny Kissin is still young :)
Is this the same recording as the one that ListzBusoni has posted? His doesn't have all the LP needle noise in it, and the distortion, so it sounds a lot better.
Grässlich! Begreiflicherweise ist das nur eine Meinung.

Horowitz would only have been 28-9 when he recorded this! Can you imagine?!

In Wikipedia, it says this is still considered to be the definitive recording of this Sonata - despite all the later recordings by others.

Horowitz, perhaps the best Liszt Sonata ever recorded.
No words to describe.
Thank you

I wish I could pull something from my sack of eloquence, but I'm coming up empty, so I'll settle for this: Horowitz is the man.
