@Jermybug 30,000 pounds of Bananas by Harry Chapin. It's not directly parodied in stanza, but a lot of lines give it away that it's a parody of 30,000 pounds.

"Rolling down interstate....to minnesota" = "Truck started down tp Scranton, Pennsylvania"

But Al makes the line really long, most likely mocking the way Harry sort of sings long lines to where he's taking obvious breaks in between.

"Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota" = "30,000 pounds of bananas"

It's supposedly parodying Gordon Lightfoot at the same time, though, so it's not JUST a parody of 30,000 pounds of Bananas. But that's one of my favorite songs of all time, and the similarities are very obvious and intentional.

Ok. Sad, funny, and true. The summer between freshman and sophomore year my parents took the 5 of us kids to....the Biggest Ball of Twine. And kept playing the song. We didn't pick up a hitch-hiker but most of the rest. And absolute riot and a memory we all love.

This is I think my favourite Weird Al song too. It inspired me to go and see the twine ball while we were driving past the area. My wife thought I was nuts. :) (The song brings back memories of road trips from when I was a kid... we almost had that many stickers on the station wagon window, as I recall... and I highly recommend the place where you can drive through the middle of a tree!)

@halodystroyer44 Weird Al meant it to be in Gordon Lightfoot's style; even Wikipedia says so. It lets him do a quasi-parody while allowing him some room to be creative in composing it.

I think this is one of Weird Al's most underappreciated songs. There are a lot of subtle touches that make this a really good parody, if it can be called that, of both Gordon Lightfoot and American culture in general.
