New Jersey might be shit 3/4 of the year but when a swell like this comes up, NJ is the only place i would ever want to surf. I think when it pumping, NJ has some of the best surfing in the world even with the freezing water.

@surfnskatehhi east coast surfing gets respect when its snowing and dudes r breathing in barrels. southern california alone dominates the whole east coast tho in terms of consistency and quality of surf, lil crowded tho.

This was Bayhead but several streets down south. Ooops, hope I didn't give away a secret spot. I was there as a spectator. Driving on the way to jetty when I saw trucks with surf racks parked in random street. Found this surf session. Best part, when I saw the jetski guy yelling out his surf taco order to an incoming surfer.

New to surfing this year. I thought i was crazy. I get off of work at 6:30 in the morning and goto OC to surf in the mornings by myself. I still hesitate when i get there but I get over the fear and just go. No one there, crab tracks in the sand, trying a short board for the first time and loving every minute of it. I come out of the water after only standing up twice out of 100 attempts. I get so STOKED. Just like i did after i saw this video and realized I am not crazy. I am SEARCHING.

@knobbykneepaddler yeah, but bayhead's bottom drop outs incredibly fast, even on chest high waves. its incredibly tough to survive the drop, as you can see in some of the attempts

@abitante5 Bay Head hasn't changed much in the 45+ years I've been surfing there. I'm just an old fart who remembers having to pay my dues the old fashioned way. It was bad enough when the leash came along and allowed incompetent swimmers to clog the lineups and impact zones. This is just another bad example, especially by guys who are heralded as "pros" and shouldn't need a crutch, for other less experienced surfers to get in over their heads. They've opened the door for more motorized "kooks".

@knobbykneepaddler i hear you loud and clear. i like to go out where no one is and surf worse waves than to surf the "best" wave with 20 other people. is it worth the 20 minute wait for one wave? no. bayhead is awesome because its so heavy and steep compared to other places, and most people go to squan when they are that close. one of my good friends owns a house right across from marlins and i just chill and surf there. its amazing. i agree with that they dont need a ski, but it IS bayhead

@abitante5 I'm with you on surfing lesser quality waves alone or with just a few friends. Given the option of hiking a ways to an unknown, crackin' sandbar rather than being elbow to elbow with the pack at "the" spot, I'd gladly do it. Lucky you to have a friend with a view. It's such an advantage for when the conditions all come together and may only last for a brief session. I know the type when you speak of Bay Head. I lived in Palm Beach for 25 yrs. and it's another reason I avoid the crowd

@surferkid303 surferkid, you are mistaken. i assume you either don't live in nj, or you haven't surfed nj in the fall/winter. i can assure you that good swells roll through here quite often... especially this year, as november and december have been straight fire! all you need to do is look my man. stop going to the same old spot and take a drive up and down the coast. you'll find a plethora oh top notch surf depending on swell/wind direction... bundle up!
