There's an infinite amount of possibilities to make fantastic, spine-tingling music, when you broaden your horizons and let cultures collide. Just thinking about the potential for sound we have as a people gives me shivers. This is utterly amazing, and just a drop in the ocean of what we have at our fingertips.
@DefeatedElitist Thats right! Only the sad thing is that the English culture seems to be stripped from us (us being the working classes) and is being replaced with this Americanised fake McDonalds culture and consumerism thats taking us from the very basic makeup of what made us who we are. It's a real sorry state of affairs at the moment IMO.
I had the good fortune to see them twice last year, and both times I had tears of joys running down my face during this song - brilliant, just brilliant.
I'm Massachusetts, listening to a playlist I called Traditional and not so Traditional and enjoying this immensely. I was just wishing that I weren't so poor and could go to the legendary Brit festivals, Cambridge, Cropredy et al. peter -- enjoy Cambridge for me!
Wish that someone could repost Ralph McTell singing his Girl from the Hiring Fair.
AEngleSaex, OK not your cup of tea I understand that but I think this is great and told Johnny Kalsi, the drummer, in person, at WOMAD last weekend. Try to be a bit more broadminded and less purist, there's a good chap.....Are you at Cambridge this weekend? Something for everyone.
Who really cares what Cecil Sharp or William Kimber would have thought of it? This is about now, where we are now, which is what folk music is about, what it has always been about. However, I can understand where you are coming from, and I, as a 15 year old, want to see traditional music preserved and played traditionally... and it is happening. This is one band or musicial project out of hundreds and hundreds on the British folk scene today, its not as if everyone is doing it.
By the way "olimandolin" I thought your "Lay me low" video was exellent and rated it as such. You seem like a very proficient Melodian player too from your Morris tune video, Will & Nancy is one of my favorites!
Thank you. My melodeon playing has got much better since then. Maybe soon I'll post another video of my playing. Yes, William and Nancy is a great tune and a very nice dance too.
Being a Morris dancer, a member of the Morris Ring, and possible future squire of my side, I know perfectly well how much we owe to those two men and I certainly appreciate what they did. I totally understand that its about hertiage and preservation, and people are doing that. This doesn't mean that people cannot produce the above; no one is saying we all have to perform traditional music like this. I think this kind of thing is fine as long as there are still people upholding the tradition.
I am in awe! This is the supergroup of folk music! And that stick in the mud Ian Anderson thinks there is no further to go in folk, rock or classical music! Blown away! Hey, sounds like something good finally came out of the Empire on which the sun never set. Ironic.

Horrible noisy arrangement.
Fusion for the sake of fusion!
Modern British folk music? There was nothing British in the sound or character of that piece. As for Folk, it's not the music of my Folk!
If a large drum was needed what would have been wrong with a Lambeg?
Because it's simply just another experiment in multicultural propaganda!
What would the Cecil Sharp or William Kimber have make of it?
British Folk is not evolving or changing its being destroyed!

I care what Sharp & Kimber would have thought!
If you don't mind me saying, your attitude toward two men we owe a great deal to is very arrogant.
But for there "Conservative" approach to the music of our folk, we could not now enjoy our musical heritage!
The above video represents ONE thing about modern Britain...We are made to co-exist along side alien cultures uncomfortably!
Folk isn't JUST about the here & now it's about preserving & handing heritage/tradition to future generations.
