  • The most hilarious, depressing show on Earth.

  • i remember my dad watching this when i was 3 :D the best!!!

  • The office us one has a better opening theme song but ther both good shows!

  • @JunsnipesS266 You miss the point! It's supposed to be boring. It is supposed to be a documentary about an office in Slough.

  • The info is spot on. This is the best sitcom ever made. It gets better every time you watch it. Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant are quite simply a geniuses, I can't stress that enough.

  • I love both versions, i used to think UK version was better but it was only nostalgia, the US version is funny in a different way but for me they are tie, i love them both equal.

  • hahhaha garreths staple jelly

  • @shadycharacter220 LOL "he's put my stapler in the jully again!"

  • That being said, I don't really "get" the American version of this show... It uses grade-school humor and gags in the context of a "professional" office environment, and the humor feels really forced and in-you-face, as opposed to the subtleties and character that this show has. But oh well, I guess Americans are stereotypically stupid for consuming trash TV, music, and film because marketing has them convinced that "everyone likes this, so I should, too!"

  • @phubans HIPSTER!!!

  • @harry911tk lol, I don't think you know what that word means... But nice try.

  • Good for you.

  • @phubans A lot of American humour is slapstick :(

  • I'm American and I saw this show a few years before the American Office was even released. I instantly loved it for not only being one of the funniest shows that I've ever seen (before seeing Peep Show), but for having all of its loose ends so beautifully wrapped up in the Christmas Special... I've never seen a show that brought tears to my eyes like the finale of this show did.

  • I have to say... I prefer the US intro better; it's upbeat and makes me smile.

  • anybody know who does this version of "handbags and gladrags"?

  • @EveryoneArguing The British and American versions are two different shows. Gervais and Carell play two different characters. The UK Office inspired 6+ spinoffs, one being the American version, which is in its eighth season. Both series have won many awards, so people must like them, I know I do.

  • UK=original

    US= crappy spin-off

  • @Tobasm Agreed!

  • why is it seem like in the british version all the comments are defending it and in the us version the comments are about how funny it is..... oh thats right the us version is better

  • @mattiscool15 The only reason people defend the original version of the office is because yanks come on here and slag it off, Either way its British so we win whatever one you prefer.

  • @jonnyd89 im not a yank im from tennesee

  • british people are so insacure about their things!!

  • @JeRseybOy251 to be honest that is bollocks. It was Americans that started to slag off the British version as soon as the American version was realised. Also it is spelt insecure.

  • @jonnyd89 when something in america is better [a lot of things] the british try to get all technical and say theirs is better, its an intro and everyone is saying, "its a documentary and this version doesn't show characters so that makes it better" look at the intro, this one has crappy music, it kind of depresses me watching it, the american version shows funny parts of the show and a good beat music, this one is just cars driving and a building with some music that sucks in the ba k ground!!

  • @JeRseybOy251 You clearly have a juvenile sense of humour. Also I think you are completely missing the whole point of the intro. Its supposed to seem depressing and dull, its a mocumentary about a paper merchant in Slough for God sake. There is clearly no point in explaining to you why the British office is so well received. The only reason the office even has an American version is because clever Americans loved the British office. If you do not get why the opening is dull then you are an idiot

  • @jonnyd89 lets not look at the point of the intro, look at the actual intros, which is better, obviously the US is better.

  • @JeRseybOy251 well its not better, you are a little kid so you would think that. You love the whole flashy flash fake tan, American thing which is fine. But dont make stupid little shitty comments about things you dont understand.

  • @JeRseybOy251 i don't want to seem like an asshole, but you're right. the US version is better. it's just more cheerful, and when you hear the music, you kind of laugh a little, not in a "HAHAHA OMG" way, but in a "relaxed, chilled out" manner because the show ALWAYS delivers. and you feel reassurance that you can sit back and relax.

  • @JeRseybOy251 you clearly love comedy that is loud and in your face, very silly, immature, maybe even have laughing in the background after every gag. That is fine but dont leave stupid comments on here about thing you have no understanding of.

  • wow chill out, american or UK, there just shows. Just enjoy it

  • "The Office (UK Version) Opening/Closing Credits"

    - to the uploader and anyone else, can you see what is wrong with this title ?

  • I prefer the American version.

And I'm British. I just don't like Gervais.

  • Does anyone know the title and artist of the theme?

  • i really love both versions but i like the american version better just because they give an idea about the show. you are both missed david and michael

  • i love both

  • @coolcunejo are u a retard? The office was made by the bbc and the americans copied it. Also america was colonised by the english. So don't start with the tea and crumpets stereotype. Actually i will join in with it you fatass american. Go have a big mac and watch tv.

  • i like uk better but you amercians i haven't watched yet watch ours is very good

  • fuck all of the critique here on youtube and everywhere else when it comes to both versions i watch them because i enjoy them end of story

  • I can appreciate US comedy and think they have made some good series of their own however I do not it like it when the US remake ours and the US office exemplifies this. This is nothing against the US, just that it misses the very point of the office (and uk humour in general) which is to make fun of our tragic modern white collar life is....the US comedy likes to glamorise life while UK likes being sardonic, guess just because of culture differences.....both good at what do, but office is uk

  • all u.s show want to make 22-25 episodes a series/season. and run for 5+ years the more the better. the real money is in syndication and NBC wants to maximize profit. BBC has the licence fee, NBC fucks new show's up constantly so they got to drain the few good shows they have.

  • The reason the US office is so drastically different to the UK one is becuase americans can't handle the genius of a sitcom that is not really a sitcom but a 'documentary' they have to have it spelled out to them in every way that you're meant to laugh (no disrespect)

  • Just read that Big George Webley who arranged the Handbags & Gladrags theme has died.

  • @CoolConejo The British version came first, you fucking moron.

  • the american version sucks ass after the first two seasons. The UK is an utter TV classic, and this opener is proof positive of the quality held therein. It's not bad to compare things, don't listen to the ignoramus up top.

  • the US versions theme song is better. i think the show in the US really took its own root. yeah the idea came out of this, but it really made itself. it seems to be al ot funnier. idk. maybe im wrong. steve carell is amazingly hilarious though.

  • what the fuck....The office UK? Lmao what the fuck? haha british faggots trying copy USA. haha this shit is so stupid. " DURRR DO YOU LIKE SOME TEA AND CRUMPETS?"

  • @CoolConejo Uh, I can't tell if you're being serious or not. I mean, you do know that the UK version came first right?

  • @CoolConejo Are you joking or just an utter retard, The British Office is the original you tit.

  • @CoolConejo

Saying that all British people are all about tea and crumpets is like saying all the U.S. is about is cheeseburgers.

  • @FoxForever90 more people probably eat cheese burgers in the us compared to how many people eat crumpets here, swear hardly anyone eats them and if they do its not regularly.

  • @jonnyd89

Even more of a reason that his idiotic statement doesn't apply.

  • that song is so awful. what on earth were they thinking. booooooring.

  • @CelticBabe17 idiots like you are why satan is coming back to rule earth, faggot.

  • there's something so harrowing and melancholic about the closing track

  • I was living in Slough last year for about six months and i was in some building for job interview. Today when i first tried to watch uk version of the office i found out that this show was filmwed in Slough and THAT building.

    GOSH!

  • strange, im british and have only seen the american version, its crap, gota watch the british version, because what can i say, if it's british, it's better

  • the US version is not bad, but it's a bit too typical and nothing special about it..

  • Ricky Gervais was a co-creator of the american office. most Americans will say the us one is better and most British people will say that the UK one is better. both have almost completely different styles of humor so you really cant compare.

  • Comment removed

  • @ahstinfut8 wrong we're only proud of anything good to do with us.

we hate the rest of the shite

  • Ricky Gervais is a comical genius!

  • german version is the best:

    STROMBERG

so get the fuck outta herer haha!

  • Office US is so much better.

  • I've never seen the bt¡rith¡ish version of 'The office'. I've just seen ONE episode of the american one, and, may I say, JUST the music, I prefear the american version. It's more... catchy. But I'm sure, both versions are amazing. I mean, with the american one, I really laughed, and yet I prefer the British humor, so it has to be hilarious... !:)

  • Love the UK version, sorry cannot stand the US one.....and no, I'm not British, I'm Australian and just appreciate the dark humor of the original Office, love the theme song too!

Cant stand Ricky Gervais though, in anything, but can tolerate him enough as David Brent I guess, but it seems like the only "character" he can play, he's kinda like David Brent all the time, maybe that is him?

  • @megrudanj Australian huh? maybe it's because there are 3 colored people in the us version?

  • @brammatie1 OK? where ever that came from I have no idea...

Basically, I just think that the us version is tacky and completely misses the point, at usual.

  • Love the UK version, sorry cannot stand the US one.....and no, I'm not British, I'm Australian and just appreciate the dark humor of the original Office, love the theme song too!

  • YHH BWOOOIII SLOUGH RITE ' ERE :D

  • Well the British intro is obviously better.....why? Because the show is a MOCKUMENTARY people, the intro was supposed to be modeled after the documentary 'airport' that aired here in the UK. The US intro has a fast tempoed upbeat theme with a montage of the characters which wouldn't be in a real documentary now would it..

  • @Robmire You mad bro?

  • @Robmire false. the US version IS a mockumentary

  • @brammatie1 Where did I say that it wasn't?.. I said the intro isn't in the style of a documentary.

  • @Robmire why must your british people compare everything to the US, are you that insecure?

  • @Robmire Totally agree, but the yanks will be to dumb to understand a word you just said. Ah, we all know that the UK version is the original and the best!

  • @visitplanetmike Oh, the "yanks" are "to" dumb? Where, pray tell, is dumb?

Go to hell you nasty limey, your version sucks ten million dicks.

  • @keyboardcatangryface oh for fucks sakes theyre different shows alright. different humour. i loved the english original, didnt want to see the US one for years but turned out that was really funny too in a different way. dont bash the original its where the US one came from...

  • @visitplanetmike "yanks"?! "to dumb"?! yeah, i MUST be a dumb, redneck yank because i don't understand incorrect spelling. i'm sure both versions are equally good, don't insult us just because we have a more "cheerful" version of The Office.

  • This show is fucking brilliant. Us office is great too.

All of you below me shut the fuck up. You are all annoying ignorant cunts. Thanks

  • us intro is much better than the uk. the uk is so sad, like a really old show...

by the way i prefer the us version, is more funny than the uk, because the uk office its for uk people, and in the usa the jokes are more easy to understand to the world..

im not saying uk office is bad, i think its good...

justa personal opinion of a mexican...

  • The UK office is almost perfect, and the US one is really good too, but it's dying like David Brent's stand up at the moment. They just need to kill it now and put it out of its misery while it still has a little dignity left. You can tell they're trying to squeeze too much money out of it when the star of the show wants out, and they're STILL trying to think of ways to keep the show going...

  • I'm not british, nor american, but still think that the uk version is really hilarious, and the us version is.....rubbish. It's more likely laugh with anything in the world, rather than the us version.

  • Tim/Jim is adorable in both versions.

  • I gave both versions a chance,and i enjoy both.

But the new season of the american office....kind of sucks D:

  • @FireBallProductionz Surely you are a troll sir. You've never watched the UK version (original), but you love the American one more? LOL The original is a masterpiece.

  • I've seen the uk version it's boring as fuck. Im sorry but maybe i dont get the uk version but if u think the uk version is better than you might not understand the funny side of the american side.Ricky Gervais is the one helping the the office ( American version) and thinks its funny. soo.... yea

  • @FireBallProductionz I'm American and i give your comment a thumbs down. Ignorance is bliss, eh ?

  • @FireBallProductionz You got back to me saying you had seen both versions, yet I replied to your ignorant comment that said you had not seen the British one. Make your mind up.

  • @eamundo19 never said that.

  • the uk version is the only one to go with (Y)

  • what's so interesting about the opening scene is that the architectures that were filmed and showed here are all new brutalist buildings, very grey, thus very british; very concrete, very institutional, thus very 'office'-like.

  • i watched the US one first until like season 5 then disliked it. i loved season 1-3.

The UK one i prefer because its wittier, more embarrasing, and they knew when to stop the show. there is no possible way it couldve ended better than the christmas special. absolutely perfect.

  • Anyone got the song? I love it.

  • @Crossbow1701 Handbags and Gladrags, not sure who its by there though but check out the Rod Stewart version

  • @mrjimmyos its the big george webley who sing this version. the original sterophonics edition is slower =]

  • Let's not forget The Office is a UK made show, It was first started by Ricky Gervais and then the American's made their own version, Both awesome of course :D

  • @sam060497 Ricky Gervais helped get the American one started lol.

  • oh sorry, i forgot this was a message board dedicated to which version of the office is better, i only came here for the wonderful piece of music, il leave now and shut the door on my way out.

  • I think the problem with the American Office is that it humanises the boss who Gervais so perfectly made into the petty little man. It's very difficult to form a genuine dislike for Carell, or even cringe at him as he has a natural charm to him that makes him inviting as a person. Gervais by contrast has all the natural charm of a toothless leper and it gives his character the uncomfortable edge for the situations presented.

  • @Neamento Great way to criticise and complement both actors at the same time. ;)

  • I come from the town, the office is filmed in, I used to walk past the office itself on the way to my school

  • I like the opening sequence. It's quiet artistic for a sitcom

  • it's fun you keep reading the same things about the two offices over and over, as if there really were two offices. the american series it's just, well, a tv series. gervais and merchant's office it's a fucking work of genius.

  • @rivoleeez you also have never seen the US version have you?

  • The American version is stupid, the British is one is so damn funny.

  • @alexnzxVersion2 you have never seen the American version have you?........

    FAIL!!!!

  • @Elephiant Yes I have seen the American version, it is not funny, it is stupid and is a cheap version of the english one. The english one has become one of the greatest shows ever and the us is barely known.

  • @alexnzxVersion2 well that's your opinion. and about that the US version is barely known.... thats not true

  • I wish this still came on because I have never seen the British version.

  • the american version is, i think way beter. and the theme song is more fun too...the UK theme is kinda sad and slow.

  • @EastCoastPeace3

I totally disagree. The American theme song is made like it were to be a sitcom more than a documentary. I think they're both good in there own ways but that the office uk is just a little more sharper and not built for the easy laughs.

  • @rotz001 well.....I don't want to become depressed if I watch something so I prefer the US version

  • @Elephiant

Lol. If that's how you see it=P

  • @EastCoastPeace3 Its meant to be. Have you seen the UK version, its pretty depressing, but still extremely funny. I havent seen enough of the US version to judge

  • @EastCoastPeace3 typical. irony my friend, irony.

  • The UK version sounds really relaxed and old-school, and the US version sounds zany and wacky.

  • @theplatinumrockstar Yeah I think I prefer the US version

  • I like the UK version because I like David Brents character better than Steve Carells.

  • David Brent, best played role ever. Beats every role I´ve seen, up there with Joker in Batman. Played so well that I to this day prefer to watch the American one, the English is just to good.

Like Chapelle show, the show was perfect. It could not be better. Therefore, there were no more than two seasons (both of witch had 8 or some episodes). Its the definition of an "epic" artwork.

  • the english version is better in my opinion, but both shows are good.

Here´s my reasons/compliments (norwegian point of view):

The english version redefined dark everyday humour. The embarassing moments where nobody talks, and the hopeless tries to talk about something after moments like these actually made a new word in the norwegian (urban) dictionary.

  • Pfffft, you call that a theme?

  • The US Office has gone on far too long and has gotten stale. The UK Office was kept nice and short and never had a bad episode.

  • @cmpunkfan2003

i think most U.S office fans think it should end next year when steve Carell leaves the show. but nbc is in such a bad shape they will keep the show going on because they have nothing else good enough to replace it.

  • LOL the song its sad.........

  • Everyone needs to stop comparing;

British version: Darkly humoured critique of soul destroying offices, pettiness and frequently driven by awdwardness or cringing moments

American version: More upbeat and sitcom like, more tradiational comedy with more laughs and less cringe.

Now please everybody shut it or comment on something interesting!

  • @agrigoat the office US has just as many cringe moments as the office UK, both are fuckin awkward xd

  • @agrigoat

I agree. There really is no "better" or "worse": each version is tailored to its respective audience. Because of cultural differences, simply "transplanting" one particular version into another culture is likely to meet with very limited success. In other words, if you're arguing about "UK this" or "Americanizing that," fuck you!

  • who is the singer of that song

  • @mademan4life Rod Stewart old version/ New version Sterophonics

  • Comment removed

  • Funny enough, I've never watched the American version - although I'm a big fan of Steve Carrell. I just really love the combination of physical humor & that wry, British humor in the original "Office" . . . and the ending: SO UPLIFTING!!!

  • the american theme is better

  • I prefer the American version, its just funnier in my opinion. And plus I can't understand what they're saying in the British version

  • I'm from the US and used to only watch the American version, or the rip off as I like to call it. I started watching the english version and it is a lot funnier. I keep telling my friends to watch the english version but they just say that they can't understand what the chracters on the show are saying. UK and US version are both funny in their own ways but UK version is generally funnier.

  • some1 should do this on mario paint

  • never watched the british version so i cant choose which i like better but i liked the theme song from the american one =] pretty catchy

  • What ever you may think about the show, I think everyone can agree the America has the better theme song.

  • @orangegold1 no way! Rod Stewart is an indie rock legend nothing can compare

  • And, by the way -- the best fucking themesong ever. Absolutely beautiful.

  • The Americans ruined this. The other one is too american and it's just awful.

  • Im from America and actually prefer the British, mostly because it seems more realistic, the American version is so much more outrageous :/. They're both still amazing shows.

  • different people are used to different things so they say that theirs is better. its just what your used to

  • ...i hate the the sooooo much but its so addicting!! i do love the office though

  • I prefer the U.S. Version. It is funnier in my opinion

  • both the UK and US series are among the greatest shows ever, though i do have a preference to the US version.

  • @ParamoreRox9 I agree. :]

  • true that,

except the office had already ended by the time reno 911 started going on the air

    but still, brilliant, brilliant remark!

  • Woops, my bad!

  • im from new zealand, and the UK version is far better by a longshot. its genius. its one thing to copy and produce a different version of this show, another thing to write the original settings, characters, etc. i still like a couple episodes from the american one but they just made it alot more sitcom-like. gervais is amazing

  • British humor is the best of the world, and I am not even from the U.K.. American humor is not the worst, I think German humor is the worst. The question is: Why oh why did they make another version of an already genius comedy show? The only reason I can think of is that the American people just can not understand true interlectual humor and that it have to be downgraded a bit! Just kidding people, just kiding. You dumbass triggerhappy egocentric brainwashed retarded disrespectfull scum :)

  • how can you say Americans are dumb-struck morons when you can't even spell intellectual or disrespectful right?...dumb ass

  • not necessarily im american and I like both

  • let me guess.... everyone who likes the american version is american and everyone who likes the british version is british?

both shows are great.... if you disagree GTFO please.

  • I'll put it to you this way -- I am American, and the British version is far more amusing and by all means more, hmm... cheekily, and even subtly so? The American version is roughly akin to a bulldozer over a molehill.

'Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough!

It isn't fit for humans now,

There isn't grass to graze a cow.

    Swarm over, Death!'

    -- John Betjeman

  • @EducationalFilms Yeah man, both shows are awesome :D. The UK version is definitely darker and a different humor style but it's still amazing in my opinion

  • @EducationalFilms i like both but the american theme song is MUCH better

  • @EducationalFilms im british and perfer the us version lol

  • @EducationalFilms that's just your opinion

  • @EducationalFilms Acutally, I'm American, and I prefer the British version way more. The American version is entertaining too (IMO).

  • @EducationalFilms I am finnish and I like both versions :D

  • @EducationalFilms i'm portuguese and i think the british version is a million times better

  • @EducationalFilms Well put. I've been saying this for years. The people who won't give one or the other version a chance are imbecilic morons.

  • @EducationalFilms Nah, loads of Americans prefer the British aswell.

  • Cool story bro, my point is without UK version there isn't a american one. why don't you join the sad no live keyboard hero.

  • If you hear this you shouldn't think you were looking at comedy

    I prefer the american version

  • @Elephiant This is the original "The Office" Ricky Gervais is so much better than Steve Carell. UK>US version

  • umm and your point is ? or are you just trying to start a big internet fight about it ? well im sure you can find it going on on other office videos. Go join the sad no lives.

  • @Elephiant That's the whole point. The office isn't 'meant' to be funny, it's 'meant 'to be a boring documentary. It's a very clever opening.
