At least 3 versions of this tune excist, this is the original version, then there was the 19 album version and finally the extremely rare jazzy version made for a limited edition US promo, shades of jazz masters.
You realize that when this was out our president had a fro, smoked doobies and went to Occidental college in LA ? He probably pop locked to this also.
I would listen 2 this song whilt working @ the daycare. The kids really liked it. I remember 1 little kid was so cute. At first he couldn't catch the beat. So he would clap in between each. It was so cute and funny. I use 2 b a dancer so I would teach him how 2 clap after every 2nd count until we reached 8 then we would start over i think I just know he learned how 2 dance and get sum rythm. . .kids r so funny
i love this. im a big 80's fan but didnt know the name of this song til someone on youtube told me. it seems like i can remember this being a big hip hop jam when i was a small child. great times.
who really cares where anyone is from or what they look like !!! the music and it's meaning is universal !!!! great tune from a great time in music history !!!!
Paul Hardcastle's music is ahead of the crowd. This is a beautiful piece that captures all of the quirks of the 80's. I love the , well, everything about Rain Forest!!! It's wonderful from the first note to the last.
this was the jam back in the day. At the skating rink or out on the street. this was the jam u would turn up a little louder while cruising down the strip on a hot summer Saturday afternoon.
They used to play this tune on FEN (Far East Network) in Japan just before the station identification. Every single day!!!! Takes me back to that time instantly! :)
I am lucky enough to have this on vinyl in pristine condition, takes me back in time every chance I get to put it on, just a great cut. Would love to have an older convertible, top down, this playing on the radio driving down AIA on the FLorida beach, sun shining in my face , what a great ride that would be.
@antontonybekker You kids today (shakes head). Electro and disco before it started the entire techno scene, dumbstep just came around in the last couple years broski, this shit has been hot for over 30. Don't get it twisted.
This is another one of my favorite tracks by Paul Hardcastle next 2 "King Tut" & "19". Paul Hardcastle has some serious soul & you have to have the same amount, if not more to understand him. Big up 2 Video Soul"& Video Vibrations" Big up 2 Donnie Simpson & Yolonda Gaskins. ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember hearing this over and over again on the radio but never knowing who made it. ONE lucky day the DJ finally informed the audience of the title and artists and said everytime he plays he gets dozens of calls asking the same question. Imagine how ridiculous it sounds calling up the radio station and having to hum the melody to a song without words lol. Anyway...classic.
This is the song that hooked me on to Paul Hardcastles' music. And it's still good to this day. I have all of his Hardcastle 1-6 and Jazzmasters 1-6 and his Journey to a Different State of Mind DVD which is absolutely brilliant!
@MINISTRYOFPIPS OMG! I love this! I'm a tad older and black, lol! I would love to dance!:) Been dancin most of my life.Don't like too much of todays stuff. I love the music of the 80's, and jazz will never get old.

Thankyou Mr Hardcastle for this tune!!!! I love Rainforest.I first heard this song on 94.7The Wave,it was raining and I went to sleep with this song playing on the radio!
I have wondered--off and on-- what the name and artist of this song was for 2 years now. I thought about it again today, and finally did some blind research. Thank goodness, searching "top instrumental songs of the '80s" gave me some things to search, and I landed here. Really sweet tune, especially the laser-blast sound on the 4th beat of every other measure! Currently on repeat...
Hello good evening everybody, this is the phone-inn from Radio ..........!!!! Let us know where ya are, what ya do and above all, what is your favorite radiostation!!?? Greetz from Amsterdam!!
@DrOCkABlEs The reason is people can't acknowledge Paul Hardcastle is a very good keyboard player. I love this song, I got his album. Rainforest is the last, track 13.
This music was also a favorite among breakdancers and bodybulders to dance on or a music accompaniment to pose with, It is smooth with some upbeat tempos, the synth work is just amazing, just perfect.
Seriously, every time i hear this song my mind automatically goes to strobe lights, smoke machines and glow sticks. . . .
But based on the comments here, I'm glad that I'm not the only person under the age of 25 who loves this song (and the music of Paul Hardcastle in general) ^_^
I remember this from the early eighties Brit Funk scene, oh what a great time that was. This was the some of the earliest snyth based jazz-funk music and it still sounds good today. A real summer chilling track.
What I like a lot, reading these messages, are the young guys that like these old skool classics. I remember this first hand and its great that a new generation can sense how good this stuff was. Excelllent !!!!!!
