Very stupid coment first off tell me what good old days , u thing these late tackles are manly no football is manly now much manlies its just that then people couldn't tackle properly and made fouls stop going on about the "good old days" for fucks sake ... Second just cuz this norman guy cant tackle doesnt mean he is hard and if you compare drogba or ronaldo to him he looks like a flat peace of fuck and if they go shoulder to shoulder , not studs to knee they will f****n knock him out
His name is so inmate-ish. I can just imagine him in prison.
'Prisoner #33123, Norman Hunter. Convicted on June 13, 1988. Four counts of murder in the first degree. Two counts of aggravated assault. Seven counts of conspiracy to commit murder. Six counts of rape. Three counts of attempted murder. Sixteen counts of possession and distribution of illegal substances. One count of large scale embezzlement. Sentence: Death, revival and then death again.
... Chelsea had Chopper. Arsenal had McLintock. Liverpool had Tommy Smith and Larry Lloyd. Tottenham and later Derby had Dave Mackay, but Mackay was a skillful player too. Manchester United had Paddy Crerand who was a half decent player also. Birmingham City and later Forest had Kenny Burns. We could go on and on, but the point is, every team had a hard man/enforcer... It just so happened that Leeds had more than their fair share!
I am a fan of Barnsley. I used to go to the home games, but when Barnsley played away, my Dad used to take me to Elland Road to watch Leeds. Now, Leeds were a bloody good footballing side. However, when the going got tough, they certainly got going as a team! They were dirty when it needed to be and they did it as a collective. Johnny Giles was an excellent footballer, but he could get tough. It's just that Leeds had 11 guys who stuck in, whereas other teams only had one player...
I think we're pretty much United on this one, you wanted him in your team, not against you, for sure. Leeds and Bristol both had a great player on their books. As for that talentless hatchet man Ron 'Chopper' Harris of Chelsea fame, he was not anywhere remotely near as gifted a player as Norman. Old chopper would have been good for sunday morning lager league. Putting the nets up!
He could play.Nobody becomes an international player because they just kick.he was past his best at Bristol but played every game for Leeds United at 85% never dropped his performance level. From Durham schoolboys to Elland Road, to Aston Gate, he was a legend.
Always remember Hunter costing England a place in the '74 World Cup Finals in that match against Poland with another of his mistimed tackles...what a spud.
Don't be a fool all your life, England never qualified because they had 37 shots on target all saved and it was not meant to be, blaming Hunter when Jan Tomachevski saved so many shots is just churlish and simplistic, on another day England would have won by 20-30.Blame Englands forward players, Chivers, Clarke, Channon they all missed chances. remember all those 'mistimed' shots at the goalie.they lost in Poland with Moore in Hunters position and drew with a very poor Welsh side at Wembley.
I loved that man. I'm happy to say that I got to see him from the East End terraces while he was there. He had a lot to do with City staying in the First Division as long as they did. A much better player than he is given credit for. That "bite's yer legs" legend is only a part of it. It's a pity he seems to regard himself as just a Leeds man, 'cos he was a hero at Bristol.
He was a much better footballer than given credit, a strong tackler yes, but had a vast amount of skill. He wouldn't last in today's non-contact version of football, but he's get a couple of decent kicks on Drogba and Ronaldo, just to let them know who's boss!!
I was fortunate to watch him in his time at Ashton Gate, a good player and a nice man too.
ITS A CONTACT SPORT...the damn prima donnas today are wussies

Ironic isn't it that everyone hated " Dirty " Leeds..yet when Leeds players moved on towards the end of their careers, like
Hunter Bristol City..Bremner, Hull City, Giles , West Brom..etc..those clubs all loved them and said they were great players.

Shame he didn't have pace or he would have been world class
